Any news on Fellaini? Genuinely didn't think he was too bad for the most-part vs Everton, went to sleep with Giggs after the 70th min or so though. Wouldn't mind him having another crack in midfield.

Striker Robin van Persie joins a Manchester United injury list that also contains Marouane Fellaini [back], Michael Carrick [Achilles], Nemanja Vidic [knock], Patrice Evra [knock] and Chris Smalling [hamstring].
Manager David Moyes adds: "I am sure we have plenty of players who can cover it and we don't miss them too much."

Flipping hell! So Ferdinand will probably be CB again? Not sure who else we can play. If we play Jones in defence who will we play in the middle?

Has to be this team for me. I would be confident with that. Valencia has got a shout on the right too I guess.

Evra's out too? Then play Rafael on the left and Valencia on the other side, Januzaj and Nani ahead of them on the wings

de Gea

Rafael
Evans
Vidic (hopefully)
Evra (hopefully)

Valencia
Jones
Cleverley
Nani

Kagawa
Rooney

SUBS: Lindegaard, Smalling, Anderson, Young, Januzaj, Welbeck, Hernandez.

Only change is probably Januzaj for Nani, perhaps. Fingers crossed at least one of Vidic/Evra will be okay.

The quotes in the Guardian mention Fellaini having a back injury. He was listed with Carrick and Van Persie so that suggests he is less likely to be in contention for Villa than Smalling, Evra and Vidic. Having said that, a wise man would be extremely sceptical of Moyes' injury updates given his track-record this season.

DDG
Rafael, Evans, Vidic, Evra
Nani, Jones, Cleverely, Janujaz
Kagawa, Rooney

Hope that's how we turn out and boy hope they play with fire from the off.

Hopefully

Nani----------Kagawa----------Januzaj

Bench: Lindegaard, Vidic, Cleverly, Anderson, Zaha, Valencia, Hernandez

Think we'll see:
De Gea
Rafael Evans Vidic Evra
Jones Cleverley
Valencia Kagawa Nani
Rooney
I'm hoping Vidic and Evra are back. If Vidic isn't, then put Smalling there. If Evra is out then obviously buttner (Fabio :( ).
As long as Young or Welbeck aren't on the left I'll be pleased with the lineup pretty much. Big game for us though, we have to build up a bit of form.

If Van Persie, Carrick, Vidic, Evra, Smalling & Fellaini are out.....

Starting XI:.........De Gea
Rafael......Jones................Evans.......Büttner
............Cleverley.........-..Anderson
.Nani............--....Kagawa............---Welbeck
........................-.Rooney

Bench: Lindegaard, Fabio, Ferdinand, Giggs, Valencia, Januzaj, Hernandez

Ferdinand against Aston Villa's fast attacking players Benteke, Agbonlahor & Weimann :nervous: ......PLEASE NO.......so Jones back in the defence.

Januzaj on the bench because he played 2x90 minutes in a row...........and Nani must finally step up!!!!!!

De Gea
Rafa Evans Vidic Evra
Jones Clev
Valencia Kagawa Nani
Rooney

I expect something like that provided Vidic and Evra are back.

I've not been paying too much attention this week but please somebody tell me this isn't actually a likely or even plausible line up.

 Is that the Guardian? They are usually quite close, but surely not.

Ferdinand and Buttner 100% won't start, I'd say the same for Young although it's Villa so maybe he has a chance

1) Eeehh Vidic and Smalling are doubtful............so we've only three options with Ferdinand, Evans and Jones for two positions.

2) Eeehh Evra is doubtful and Moyes isn't Fabio's biggest fan.......so it will be Büttner.

According to Physioroom Smalling, Carrick, Fletcher and obviously van Persie out, with Fellaini, Vidic and Evra set to return, so with that in mind I would go for something along the lines of this.

de Gea
Rafael - Evans - Vidic - Evra
Valencia - Jones - Cleverley - Januzaj
Kagawa
Rooney
Subs: Lindegaard, Fabio, Fellaini, Giggs, Nani, Welbeck, Hernandez
Aston Villa aren't exactly a force on home soil, but they possess a lot of pace in the side and their biggest asset is probably their counter-attacking ability. I haven't seen a lot of them of late, but their ball retention and possession isn't great and I imagine we will see a lot of the ball with them sitting deep and trying to hit us on the counter. With that in mind, I think we need to have a lot of pace in the side and creativity to open them up, but also defend well.
David de Gea speaks for itself in goal, but with the defence there is nearly the best possible mobility and pace we can choose from, while Evra and Vidic might be a bit rusty after returning from injury; Rio and Buttner don't inspire confidence in the team and it probably isn't wise to thrust Fabio into the side given his lack of first team action this season. Evra mustn't be negligent of his defensive duties - which is all too often the case - as Agbonlahor and Weimann could easily expose that. While, Vidic will hopefully be able to combat Benteke's physicality - despite being very poor against Lukaku - as Rio would more than likely get easily dominated.
We are bereft of midfield options, so like de Gea, that more than less picks itself. I don't see Jones as a central midfielder despite a massive up-rise in his performances there, but with Carrick injured he is our best central midfielder. With Cleverley and Jones there will be plenty of energy and as much pace as possible. Fellaini will return from injury and has been poor thus far, so I'd like to see us go for those two and I think it is the most well-balanced midfield. Valencia might be a silly choice, I'm hoping he will make a big contribution defensively - even though Nani puts in a shift - and bar his last few performances he has been in very good form. Januzaj should just play as much as possible, simply put.
And I've opted for Kagawa as the offensive midfielder behind Rooney, as with van Persie's long-term injury it would be good to see the two strike up a good partnership and understanding while playing in their favoured positions. Kagawa might also provide a better link between midfield and attack, while improving the balance, movement and fluidity of our attacking-play.
With our bench, Lindegaard is an obvious choice, but I'd like to see Fabio there as it gives us more versatility and options, so he could move to right back or left back in case of an injury. Fellaini can provide an impact from the bench - although I wouldn't want to see that in the form of long, diagonal balls forward - as can Giggs, Nani and Hernandez. While Welbeck could be a good defensive substitution late on if we are looking to provide a lead and create space with his ability to work the channels and create on the counter - although he is shit at finishing.

Moyes has confirmed that Evra, Vidic, Smalling and Fellaini are all out. As well as the likes of van Persie et al.

That means we're likely to see:

------------ De Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Evans Buttner
------- Jones Cleverley
Valencia Kagawa Welbeck
----------- Rooney

I hope we don't see Vidic or Ferdinand in defense against Villa. Agbonlahor will obliterate both of them for pace. Vidic always struggles against him, and although Rio used to make mince meat of players like him, those days seem gone. Smalling can more or less match him for pace and has very well against him before, even on right back, so if he's fit, he should start - if not, I would play Jones and Evans in the centre.

Villa are a very quick team, and without quick feet, United will see themselves struggling to see the ball. I would therefore put Cleverley and Anderson in the middle with Valencia and Nani as wingers; Valencia can cover for Rafael on right back against Agbonlahor, if he's firing. Then I think Kagawa and Rooney are a must. DDG goes without saying.

We don't have much choice. Only 3 CBs are fit and one of them is our best midfielder at the minute.

I'd like to see (considering who's out):

-------------De Gea
Rafael---Jones-----Evans---Evra
------Andserson----Cleverley---
Valencia---Kagawa----Nani-----
------------Rooney---------------

I think it will be similar but the way Moyes sets up I can see Welbeck instead of Nani if fit, and Fellaini for Anderson. It will need a hard working midfield 5 to keep Villa quiet then hit them on the break

True that - Rio may well step up to this match and play like a world class defender like we know he can. Jones is good in midfield, and it could prove wise to have him shield the defense in a midfield three. I would like to see Ando for this...

Evra is injured, is he not? If Büttner plays ahead of Fabio once more I might just go bonkers

Buttner will play.

Having seen the injury list, I reckon we'll have to score at least 3 to get a win tomorrow and we really don't look like doing that atm. Ferdinand and Butter:nervous:

I really think going Welbeck would be a mistake, he's just not playing well enough and for me not adding enough to the team defensively to justify coming in on those grounds. With no creativity centrally, we need more from wide, we can't pick players there for their work rate rather than their actual attacking threat. Think this is a game where we look to win by out scoring them/dominating in attack rather than by being defensively sound, we've got too many injuries for that and just think we'll end up cutting the attacking threat without adding enough defensively.

Would like to see jones and clev in the middle, nani/valencia kagawa and januzaj with rooney up top.

Mixed emotions about tomorrow. Any away is worth looking forward to at the minute, but it won't be easy. Team wise, I would go for something like this:

De Gea; Rafael, Vidic, Evans, Buttner; Jones, Cleverley; Valencia, Kagawa, Januzaj; Rooney.

Could do with a decent vocal support tomorrow. Need a win.

Damn, I was optimistic thinking we had little injuries, but not very confident with no Evra and co. No Welbeck on the left please Moyes, either up top or on the bench.
