Ask admin a technical question (For mod action/questions, please PM us)

Huge bins we all have to separate different types of rubbish, carboard and plastic and so on. I think it all gets mixed up again eventually but at least we feel better when the wagons come round. Also we have a national rule that no two towns or cities can have the same colour coding system. One day wars will be fought over who can use what colour, like the Roses.
Oh, you mean a dipsy dumpster. Gotcha.

You're right, this is taking up space where we could discuss wheelie bins instead. We've got four different sorts you know. Four!
We have four as well, although only two of them are wheely bins, the others just boxes. Back in Halifax (NS), we had even more variants.

Drives my parents-in-law nuts, it's great. :)

Where can one find the forum rules?
Curious why your thread was closed I guess? :D

There are some rules but they're not very specific. There a couple of bits of information available at the help page, most usefully for you the Rules Violations and Terms and Rules pages. I suppose that's not specific enough for you here, but in your case I'd think it's probably some combination of the risk of slander (incorrectly accusing someone of possibly being a racist, which might expose the forum legally as well) and this generally being a very controversial topic that's better not brought up without anything concrete to discuss. @Mciahel Goodman closed the thread and might be able to explain further.

Admins, I've recently been interviewing for higher up software engineering positions and they often ask about system design architecture. It got me curious -- how is the caf designed? Does the caf use any cloud providers? How do you handle high user spikes?

Might be weird to ask all of this but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask

I accidentally ignored a thread, don't even know which one, a message just flashed up on my screen.

How do I find out which thread I am ignoring and then unignore it?

Edit: Alright, I just found out, ignore this post.
It's in the account settings. Looks like a man figure top right on mobile. Then there is an ignoring option and a thread tab

Sure I saw some content and advice on the below, on the CAF previouslybut I cannot locate it.

What’s the situation with posting content that is behind a pay wall.

A. Post the link. Members click on it and get to read the opening paragraph (if they are not subscribed to that site). But not the fullness of the article.

B. Copy & Paste the article and pull it into a thread, in a quote box / thread.

C. Screenshot the article and post it as a photo/picture in a thread.

Assume there is no issue with ‘A’.

What is the stance on ‘C’ & ‘D’?

Found the details again in the FAQs. Understand it opens the site owners/admins up to legal action Etc.
Surprised by this to be honest. It’s par for the course On much of the internet.

RedCafe prefers to be careful and not potentially open themselves up to issues. It's the same with discussing police cases; see e.g. how the Greenwood thread was removed from view. Chances of RedCafe getting into trouble for copyright violations and other issues might be small, but any such trouble might quickly close the forum, so why run the risk.

It doesn't matter. The owner received a few threatening emails from a media group saying that if we continue to post their work, they'll take us to the courts. That was nearly eight years ago. Some newspapers are okay with their content being posted and appreciate the more hits sent to their site, but this one was very threatening so to be on the safe side we don't allow any to be posted in full.

Would we prefer not to have this restriction? Absolutely. But any legal action would put the existence of the caf in danger so that comes first.

Cheers Cheirmoon.

Do I need to contact you to use content from Telegraph publications?

Permission and a licence is required for any use of content from Telegraph publications.

Is there a fee to reproduce or use Telegraph content?

In nearly all circumstances, a fee is applicable.

Can I reproduce your article or photo on my blog/ personal website? Do I have to pay?

Please email Syndication for permission and include details of which article or photo you wish to reproduce and the link to your site or blog. There will be a charge to reproduce any Telegraph content. Alternatively, you can link to The Telegraph website without charge. Permission is not required, providing you do not reproduce/use any of our content.

I don't know how much clearer I can make it that we've been threatened with legal action. They made it clear that we don't have a licence from them so can't "reproduce the articles on our website". Maybe the other forums have forked out for the licence or don't post Telegraph articles, I don't know and I don't care. But that is why we can't post the articles. They require a fee.

And at the time they sent us the emails they told us to submit a written undertaking to them promising not to unlawfully reproduce copyrighted work in the future.

Hi Damien, I am not sure if we are at crossed purposes here. Easy to do on a forum. The opening lines of both your last posts to me seem abrupt. Like I am attempting to circum the site rules. I asked the question, and found the answer myself in the FAQs.

I won’t be posting any articles that will damage the site or it’s owners/administrators. With that, there are no issues.

I am a Lawyer after all.

I know you're not, but you're implying that it is fine to post articles as other forums post them in full/we are making up this legal threat. I'm just saying that the emails are real, the threats we've got are real and pointing you to where it says that we can't reproduce articles.

@Damien, it says you can’t post pornography on here in the forum rules but there is porn on other places on the internet?

am i;

a: allowed to post link to porn? members can click the link and go to that site and see the top half of a nudie lady

b: copy and paste the boobs into a thread

c: screenshot the blouse boulders and post it in a thread?

i assume there is no problem with a, what’s the stance on 3 and 4?

Are you a lawyer

I haven’t ‘implied that is is fine to post articles’ as others do so.

I posted that others do so. The implication being, they do so without sanction.

I haven’t implied or expressed in any way, shape or form that you ‘are making up this legal threat’.

This should be easy to see, given the amount of posts above (on the subject).

I thank you for the information. There won’t be any issues with me posting media that is behind a paywall.

Graham Norton levels.

What would make a staff member lose his privileges?

Asking for the Ukraine thread given you cannot ignore/block staff members.

I am enquiring about the possibility of having my Current Events posting (hell, even viewing) privileges back. I was banned maybe 3-4 years ago (a decision I still dispute) and as a long-time poster here, I feel as though I have enough credit in the bank to warrant and justify any softening of the current restrictions on my account.

P.S. I am unsure if this is the best place to pose this question or if this conversation is better served through PM.

Thanks in advance.

Trying to get a couple of quotes of my posts deleted. Where should I request this?

thanks

Hi modmins. Can you do one of those autocorrect scripts to changes Glaziers to Glazers? It's been nearly 20 fecking years and people still can't spell it correctly. Thanks!

I just got a notification telling me I'd been promoted to full membership, but I've been a full member for years. Is this an automated thing because I reached an amount of 'likes', or did I lose my full membership at some point without noticing and it's been reinstated?

Welcome back, mate. Long time no see.
