Ashley Young | Transfer rumours

What was weird is that previously Jose said it wouldn't be fair to stand in the way of a player who wasn't getting played enough minutes. Now that two have gone already he's changed his tune. Ashley might be feeling a bit frustrated unless promised more minutes.

Well considering that Jose said Young might still leave a few days ago, i'd reckon it was either that a) the offers weren't good enough or b) Young didn't want to leave.

Or c he put his foot down with the board. After seeing us progress in the FA Cup and our fixture list looking like a traffic jam.

@Ian Reus no he ruled it out for the rest of the season. Simon Stone, the best reporter imo, was very good with getting clarity with his questions and answers.

Cheers for that @OohAahMartial
Well I suppose it saves me money. Let somebody else take him off our wage book in the summer.

Unless we're talking about some ridiculous transfer fee, I don't think we would look to sell now that we need some squad depth in the remainder of the season. That's counting Rooney case too.

Agreed we need him for the remainder of the season at least and id argue beyond unless we add depth. We need him more than Rooney really.

He's a better option at fullback than Darmian thats for sure.

As long as he is gone in the summer I dont mind him staying solely for squad depth. Then again if he were to leave next week I wouldn't care and 10m would be good money for his age, quality and how much wages we reportedly pay him.

If we get a few million for him he can go. Also it will be good to get his £120/wk off the wage bill. He is a back-up RB at best, but Darmian and TFM can cover Valencia for the next 4 months. Young won't be a big loss.

Christ on a bike. The guy has just re-appeared after I dont know how long of being awol. One average performance against Blackburn and one slightly above average performance against a team when the tie was already done. And now we should keep him

We wouldnt even probably realize he would have left if he did go. Average player in his 30's on a good wage taking up a slot many other players could easily step into. The only thing I can remember of any significance in recent years is the bird s*itting in his mouth

Think you're underestimating the experience Young has a little, which will be vital if Valencia got another injury. He's done well the past 2/3 games helping us through to the next round of the cups. I'd keep him personally, Darmian isnt as good as Young and doesn't have the form or experience Young has.

He's our 2nd best option at RB. We have a lot of games and Valencia can't play in all of them. Imagine if Valencia gets injured, we'd have to play Darmian at RB, God help us. Ashley should stay until the summer.

Well put.

I understand the experience argument when it comes to Rooney or Carrick (or even Schweinsteiger) as they've won all there is to win at club level but what experience does Young have? Knockout stages of the CL? No. International experience? Nope again. PL winning/challenging experience? Not really that either.

I don't mind him staying around because he's pretty versatile and seems happy to be a squad player but if he was to leave we certainly wouldn't miss his experience.

TFM should have been ahead of him since the beginning of the season anyway, so if it happens now, not soon enough.

Jose and Faria seems to be very happy with him. So I doubt we'll accept an offer unless it is a huge sum and Young wants out.

I'm in the opinion that Young is a very important part of the squad. I don't get how people vilify him but love Oshea. He's exactly what Oshea was. Will do anything for the team in any position (although Oshea played goalie) and never complains. Those fringe players are worth their weight in gold.

Prefer to see him on both fb positions to Darmian so i wouldnt mind if he stayed.

There was a time when he used to get on my nerves like hell, but the way he displaced Di Maria during LVG tenure and his general demeanor of a likeable guy has since earned my respect. And it's not his fault the club agreed to pay him whatever he earns.

He has plenty of PL experience, not only has he won the league with us but he's been in relegation scraps with Villa, so he's experienced both ends of the spectrum. He knows when he's in a dogfight and has to grind it out in any kind of game, put Darmian in that situation and he'd crumble. Young also has plenty of FA Cup and League Cup experience too, that would help us as we'll be using the majority of the squad from now to the end of the season. What's the CL got to do with out situation this season? We've also got Rostov in the EL, if he can't put in a decent shift against them then he shouldn't be here, even Darmian should be able to put in a solid performance against them.

Villa finished sixth, sixth, sixth and ninth when he played for them. So not really a relegation scrapper but with the upcoming fixture pile up I don't really see why we'd really want to get rid now. He can at least play reasonably well in multiple positions, so he offers safety in that regard.

If the club accepts a fee for a player can the player still deny the move? He can reject it based on failing to agree personal terms right?

I'm not too fussed either way. I'd prefer him to leave in the summer as we have him as a backup option out wide, but if he goes we've got cover in the form of TFM at right back (he had some decent performances last season). We're not short of left backs (Shaw, Blind, Rojo) and we have Rooney, Rashford, Lingard who can play out wide for a game.

He can leave in the summer, but we need him to stay for now as cover in case Valencia gets injured. I also don't care about freeing up his wages because he makes an insignificant amount in the context of our overall wage structure.

He's put in a couple of useful performances against Blackburn and St. Etienne which allowed Valencia to get some rest and his work rate in those matches is impressive for somebody who has barely featured this season. Darmian wishes he was as good as Young. I'd replace them both this summer if possible, but replacing Darmian is far more of a need than Young who doesn't get skinned every time a player gets isolated on him.

Or the other. Don't ever put yourself in with me lol.
Nah, you're cool.
