Probably worth £4M to us including his wages, I hope to God him leaving doesn't mean that Rojo will stay as LB cover though....

I wouldn't think so, I'd say Shaw is left back cover for now with the emergence of Williams

Very good player in his prime, I wish him all the best going forward.

Ahh... So the full season where he was good enough at left back to justifiably be England's starting left back at the World Cup doesn't count?

Give over. He was awful. The stats for that season was summat like only 20% of his crosses reached a teammate. So 80% of the time he fecked up. When he wasn't crossing balls to the corner flag, he was shitting his pants every time someone ran at him, resorting to hoofing the ball into the stands. He never took on the opposition fullback, or ran in behind them. His signature move was to run with the ball until someone tried to tackle him, then shit his pants and pass it backwards. He was so much of a weak link, that the opposition didn't even mark him, which is why he had so much of the ball. He never did anything with it. Even when we bought him as a left winger, his only trick was to run into a crowd of players and throw himself to the ground. Then throw his arms up to the ref. If Inter want to pay 1.5m for Young, then I would be laughing all the way to the bank.

Seems a very good character, rarely seemed a very good player.

Rather it was Shaw being sold first. Hopefully he's next and we bring in a proper left back to mentor Williams.

Been a fairly good player for us, gave his all and his conversion to a full back shows the sort of character he is and he’s been really useful at either full back position for us in recent years. He’s far from a great however just a decent steady player. Sad to see him go in a way he doesn’t deserve any shit from his own fans at all. All the best to him in Italy

If he was starting for Brighton (as that was his level) he never would have received a call-up, our profile has done the trick for him.

Alexander Arnold’s crossing accuracy is at 23% so Young would’ve been right up there with the best then. Don’t use stats unless you understand them.

The thing I don't like the most about this is that we lose another experienced member of the squad, and that presence in the changing room will be missed.

We had no choice really. Couldn't afford to risk him going for nothing at the end of the season.

Good luck Ash!

Good luck, Youngy.

Top pro - never caused any problems on or off the pitch, never in controversy, hard working and dedicated. All you can expect from a squad player and a veteran, it's not his fault he wasn't good enough the past few seasons, it's our fault for not upgrading sooner.

Hope he does well over there.

Finally. To think he stayed 5 years longer than Nani is mind-boggling. It was embarrassing to see him captain us vs Barcelona with Messi.

Lingard & Jones next out hopefully.

Good luck at Inter, Ashley!

Would rather we kept him until the summer, given our lack of quality and depth in the LB and RB positions.

A top professional but not bringing the experience to the team on the pitch that his years should be demonstrating.

... we absolutely could have afforded him going for nothing.

Good servant to the club, good luck to him.

Much the same as Valencia really, stayed longer than his ability should have permitted as he aged but the club failed to think ahead, which isn't his fault.

I hope that he enjoys his time in Italy. I have always had a soft spot for Ashley, he has been a good signing.

Huge opportunity for him and one he could never have expected. Hope he makes the most of it.

All the best Ashley!

Honestly, reading this thread made me understand why we're in such a position as a club, since mediocrity has been accepted and rewarded right from the top all the way to the fans as long as you show some passion and work hard.

Ah yes, but he was crossing the ball 87 times a game. Sometimes not even looking up to see if anyone was there. He is currently being given a masterclass by a 19 year old academy product.

Which would make the stat more impressive. You don’t understand them.

Club captain and he leaves mid season doesn't speak volumes does it?

He was finished as top level footballer for a few seasons and if Ferguson was still manager he would be sold years ago

A decent pro, but ultimately his days as being genuinely useful and a way forward are long gone.

Cheers for the service, but happy to see the end of Young in this squad.

If Dalot can stay fit, he should be capable of delivering the equivalent of Young's performance, as a minimum.

Totally agree...and boy could he play a banger on the dressing room Ghetto-Blaster. Who’s the new dressing room DJ? Seriously though, his attitude was always proper United and I wish him well. Will do great over there.

Now, what’s bird shit in Italian?

Good luck to old Youngy boy. He's been one hell of a servant; always happy to fill in when the time came and given a little too much shit sometimes by the old redcafe faithfuls (although understandable as he was complete fecking garbage for a while).

Signed for Inter according to Sky. I wish him well. He deserved more respect from United fans than he got, I would go so far as to say whenever United have had good spells in recent years he has usually been playing, and playing well himself.

^ This. A remnant of Fergie's good ol' days. Similar status to Valencia, where both always give their all on the field, and a total pro off it.

He's been a good player for us, never top class, and used to fall over too easily looking for penalties, but since he moved to wing back he has another lease of life, even making the England squad, so he was not that bad. But if we are going to push for top four, and then top spot in the league, then he was never going to be involved, at his age. A good result for everyone I believe. We have Williams, Shaw, AWB, Dalot and Laird to cover the full back positions, so the timing is right.

NB Another player leaves the club who was sh**e, according to some posters, so Ole is gradually getting rid of the old guard, and bringing in the new.

Thank you for your service Ashley. Enjoy your time in Italy.

I hope this means we're getting someone in this window.

I do find it hilarious how a player described as a loyal servant by many jumped ship at the first opportunity. Our club captain as well
I can imagine the furore if certain other players had attempted to force through a move in January

Favourite Young moment,people ?
Preferably one that doesn't involve the presence of bird-poop landing into his open mouth.

For me it was the bird pooping..,oh god dammit.

Brilliant servant to the club. Thanks Ashley and wish you best of luck for the future.

Club captain and supposedly "great" servant, jumps ship as soon as he was offered a deal by another club and leaves the team mid season. Not that I am disappointed since I think he should have left years ago, but it tells you about this group of players we have on undeserving huge wages. Same thing will happen with Lingard I can imagine.

His first season as a winger in 11/12 was decent and I think he had a good season at full back under Mourinho? Maybe 17/18?

Other than that he was average to awful. I remember when the rumours first started we were going to sign him I was severely underwhelmed and what we got was pretty much what I expected. Although I didn't think he'd be here for 8 and a half years!

Weirdly I think his absolute worst season here was under Fergie in 12/13 when we won the League. He was fecking awful that season, he might have been the only player in the Moyes year to have improved.

He was never sulking, or doing anything off the pitch to embarrass the club though and you couldn't fault his effort. Nobody can blame him for wanting to go so fair play to him.

For me it's 7-2 versus arsenal. Got a goal and I think a couple assists just for rolling a free kick to Rooney to take

The fantasy football points were glorious!

I was happy when we signed him as I thought he'd be a good back-up winger for us, circumstances meant his role changed over the years to a point where we were using him for the sake of using him. He's like that cheapish knife you bought from Asda that you used a couple of times until it became blunt and now you use the knife as a makeshift screwdriver or weeding knife.
