United player as in being of the required standard. Should have been shipped soon after Fergie left but somehow survived another 6 years.

Ahh... So the full season where he was good enough at left back to justifiably be England's starting left back at the World Cup doesn't count?

True professional. One of the very few in the squad with a bit of character and leadership.

When you weigh it up he’s been a decent signing for us overall. He’s one of the last of the fergie era, only De Gea and Jones left now?

Can’t help but feel he must have seen a lot of the fan abuse he gets online and maybe that was a small factor in his decision to go.

Hope he has a good few years in Italy.

Never sulked on or off the pitch while he was here. Excellent professional. Good luck to him.

Conflicted on this

On one hand he's only a squad player now so who cares but on the other he brings some shithousery that no one else in the squad has now and is a very good option to bring on when wanting to win free kicks, break up play and see a game out

Kind of stinks a bit, our captain walking out for 1.5 mill half way through the season. I dont think he is the greatest player but he never gets the respect he deserves. He is one of very few leaders in our team. You can see him guiding people on the pitch and from reports he is well liked and respected behind the scenes as well. Just for that it was worth keeping him until summer. Plus fact he can play both RB and LB and he always plays does a job. Hes a poster boy of professionalism which quite a few in our squad could learn from and we are seriously short on players. But oh well there is no going back for him after he says he wants to leave.

I remember calling for him to be sold that summer. He’d been largely woeful on the wing for us and this continued into the Moyes debacle.

Nani working hard at full back wouldn’t have been met with the same level of acceptance as Young.
We’re very sentimental bunch as a fanbase I must say, people calling him a great servant as well...He’s been lucky to play for this club and now as a captain he jumps the ship at first opportunity someone shows interest in him while knowing our current situation in terms of squad numbers.

The last man standing of the Blind-Fellaini-Young triumvirate that tore Liverpool, Spurs and City apart is now gone. A sad day.

In all seriousness, top pro, could never fault his effort, but even though he gave his all, he was never really quite good enough. Good move for him though.

Great servant for us and an ultimate professional.

Way past his best and has been for some time so I’m glad he’s gone, I’ve no idea what inter are thinking tbh.

Never rated him and good to have him off the payroll as he was never worth 120k per week. Now Rojo, Jones, Matic must surely follow and OGS continues to clear out the deadwood.

Excellent professional. Could never understand the grief some people gave him.
Wish him all the best.

Not young (well he is a Young) and not world class but a good solid pro. Good luck to him.

Lukaku and Sanchez wanted to leave, Smalling doesn't want to return, Pogba, Young, Matic and Lingard want to leave as well, Haaland preferred joining Dortmund then the club his former manager is managing.....this club is in shambles. Jeez Ole and the Glazers did brought this club into the new Molde. I can't see us getting sorted unless the Glazers sell out.
Lukaku = good, limited striker
Sanchez = :lol: who?
Smalling = ok no worries pack your shite
Pogba = problem but lets see what happens
Young = bye bye bro, nice having you
Matic = going downhill fast but put in a decent shift recently
Lingard = :lol:
Haaland = we'll see this summer

Point is obviously that most of these "lot" aren't worth keeping.

I agree and normally I wouldn't think about this, but it's been obvious that Woodward has been trying to (i.e. doing) shed wages such as Lukaku, Sanchez, Smalling, now Young for players who don't have a clear first choice path or considered first choice. United is shifting money around and trying to keep wages within reason for additional spending come summer and year over year bookkeeping.

I'd probably agree but for prolonging contracts with shite like Jones and Rojo which is a complete contradiction to what we wish it was.

Probably a good thing Inter and Young have forced our hand here. Not ideal to lose him midseason but still preferable to extending his contract, which it sounds like the club had every intention of doing.

We could sign Messi and this would still be the best piece of news this window. The only thing that could top it is releasing Jones.

Good luck to him, years overdue. I do feel we have left ourselves short at fullback, hopefully Dalot can stay fit and provide cover when needed.

Probably worth £4M to us including his wages, I hope to God him leaving doesn't mean that Rojo will stay as LB cover though....

Good news for all stake holders. Hope others like Rojo,matic and Mata will continue.

Been a good servant but well past his sell by date.....the fact that it was being muted that we were going to offer another years extension was frightening - especially on the wages he is on.....

and good luck to him as he will take a big pay cut to join Inter but at least it will be warmer and sunnier on their bench.....

Been a really good player for us for years. Filled in all over the place and received lots of unwarranted flack for it. It’s a good buy for inter.

Good luck to him. Inter is a proper good move, he's done well and based on his professionalism and work ethic I'd hazard a guess that he deserves it.

As a player, he's been abysmal for us for some time, but he gave his all and I do get the impression that at least off the pitch, he carried himself well and did act as a leader. I think that's one of the reasons that he was kept on when he was clearly way over the hill, among a few other reasons such as dire recruitment / player development.

On a sidenote, I expect / fear some smug totally bollocks social media posts to come out of him and Lukaku living it up, perhaps with a subtle dig (from Rom). I'll fume if that happens. Rom is actually so rent free in my head rn.

This!

Too many sentemental fans on here, seem more than happy with mediocrity.

Absolute joke of a fee. He's worth at least £25 million.

The amount of venom is staggering, I shouldn’t be surprised really.

Aye, anyone who's giving him shit as a way of saying goodbye can feck off to be honest.

Here's a bloke who has been with us for 8 years, has made over 250 appearances, won many a trophy, reinvented himself over time to play well enough in a new position that he forced his way back to playing international level, is very well liked within the club, has been ultra professional at all times and is (was) justifiably out captain... And he gets a good riddance? Wankers. Its like Valencia all over again.

Anyway,I've done a total 180 on this move. At first I was against it as I figured we'd need the depth, and he's been good when he's been put in recently. However, I was talking to the guy who sits next to me at OT on Saturday and he said, as a 34 year old footballer with not much left in you... Why wouldn't you want to experience playing for a top side in Italy? And should we as a club really stand in his way just so he can come in for the odd game? Probably not.

The worst player to be in the team regularly alongside Lingard these past few years.

Get in! Overstayed his welcome, but better late than never I guess.

Can’t fault his efforts though, always gave his all which unfortunately wasn’t enough. Wish him all the best.

I still don't get this sequence of events with Ashley. When did this love for Italy/Calcio started? and all that Stadium-racism down there?

Lukaku and him were good friends. I assume he’s put in a good word and knew he was leaving this summer anyway.

inter are a great club, have a top manager and are on the up. They’ll be in the CL next year and potentially win the league this year, he’d be silly not to take this opportunity.

I wouldn't mind keeping Matic as he is a good back-up player.

I'd add Lingard to the list though
