He had a lot of unwarranted abuse during his time here. Deserves all the success coming his way.
Nonsense. He was the best full back at the club for a few seasons and was deservedly first choice for a World Cup semi-finalist with no shortage of options. How poor is that league though that a 35 year old Young is in a title winning team. At his peak he was average. I’m his last few years he was absolutely shocking. Says it all about the quality really. Congrats to him though!

You can be an average legend too for what it’s worthnutmegged Figo, played in goal, that chip against Arsenal and scored the winner against Liverpool @ Anfield.
That equally average!
Come on he was a pretty poor player. Okay as a wingback in his later years but by the end he was serving up absolutely shocking performances. He couldn’t retain possession, just pumped upfield over the opposition fullbacks. The fact that was a couple of years back now says it all because I strongly doubt he’s got much better, he’s just playing at a considerably lower level. He was never even close as a fullback to Valencia who was genuinely one of the best in league for a couple of seasons at RB.Nonsense. You don’t actually believe that to you? Loads of players far better than Young don’t get the respect they deserve. Look at the way De Gea is now being dragged through the muck with loads saying he isn’t a Utd legend even after years of top level service. Young doesn’t get that much respect because aside from being a model professional, he was a largely average and forgettable player.Happy for him winning the title with Inter.
Was a good player for us, gave everything when he was here, a top pro and a good lad.
Being non-white AND English meant he never got the respect he deserved.
A hard disagree on this. Young was a miles better player than Valencia in his latter years. Valencia being made club captain at United was one of the more bemusing decisions post-Ferguson and a sign of complete malaise. Aside from being unwilling to fulfil duties off the field, his confidence was completely shredded. Game after game his teammates ignored him as an option on the right, when he could do nothing other than the "Valenica shuffle", before passing back inside. There's a reason why Ole sidelined him and he left without a testimonial, whilst eligible for one.Come on he was a pretty poor player. Even the pigeons had something against him.He had a lot of unwarranted abuse during his time here.
I swear, there's so much talk of this mythical anti-English bias that I'm going to believe it one day.Being non-white AND English meant he never got the respect he deserved.
Can't speak for others, and there is no denying that being a man of color gives him a lot of challenges he shouldn't have had to bear, but if anything everyone I've spoken to respected the hell out of Young, he always seemed like such a fantastic person. Great professional, great respect for the club and the fans, always seemed like a kind man.Happy for him winning the title with Inter.

You really think Young was a better fullback than Valencia, wow that's absolute madness.A hard disagree on this. Young was a miles better player than Valencia in his latter years. Young's biggest crime seemed to be that he was failed winger in his 30s, which many couldn't see past. He's a decent full back, still with more combined goals and assists than Shaw over the last three seasons.
Yeah he got a lot of negativity and he was always a top professional.Agree, he got shit on (heh) too much whilst here. Always tried his best for us
People forget he played pretty much every match, in one of the most demanding roles. At his age that was never easy.Painfully average for the last 2 years for us. Conte sure knows how to rejuvenate these kind of players. Most of his squad in Euro 2016 was bang average, yet as a unit they were decent.

None will beat the bird shit moment unfortunatelyHe outstayed his welcome here for a few years (though that’s down to how cheap the club is when it comes to extending players who are clearly not good enough instead of replacing them for actual transfer fees) - but he had some iconic moments over the years.
Couple bangers against in the 8-2; getting bird shite in his mouth; those few months where he suddenly became an amazing wingback and led to that Phillip Lahm thread; those moments where he was standing with the crowd in an away game; came out of lockdown with an unreal hairline etc.

Players improve and players fade. Valencia was a good full back for a long time, but he faded hard and Young actually improved a lot. Valencia just fell off a cliff in 17-18 and barely featured as a result in 18-19.You really think Young was a better fullback than Valencia, wow that's absolute madness.
At Villa, yes, but at United he didn't deliver at the level he had previously. His two seasons at United with the most appearances were his final two full ones, when he played predominantly as a full back, and he was on course to do the same in his last half-season before he left in January. I liked Young, and don't feel labelling him as a failed winger at United is particularly harsh. He wasn't good enough in that role to hold down that spot.Failed winger was one of the most moronic thing on caf and twitter. He made PL team of the year twice in 2007-08 and 2008-09, won PFA young player of the year playing as left winger.
Even in his first season for us, he had 13 G+A in 19 starts in PL alone and a bunch of penalties.
He had successful career as a winger.
People forget he played pretty much every match, in one of the most demanding roles. At his age that was never easy.
He was a great servant to the club, gave his 100% every match. I can't believe people still have ill feeling towards him.
First goal* for them... Very tidy.
In the league

Please stop guys
The guy was a failed winger who couldn't even beat the defenders anymore and then got moved to full back position cause charity united. Still remember his annoying trademark move when he played on the left - faked a cross with his left and then moved the ball to his right to cross into the box. Rinse and repeat. Should have been sold in 2015 with Valencia but again charity United. If we were more ruthless with some of the shite we had we'd be in a much better position but no give time they'll come good - probably. Imagine Bayern turning Robben into a full back cause he couldn't cut it as a winger anymore
