I wish he had looked up when ball fell to him after Lukaku missed in 1st half, both him and Martial were free at the far post. Little bit of composure and he could've picked either of them out for a header.

Garbage player as an attacker now, looks busy but absolutely zero end result as an attacker. Never again should he play as a forward.

I'm almost certain he's somehow going to get a contract extension soon.

'Great squad player to have', and all that.

He's fine I suppose as a backup full back and general utility player but he shouldn't be starting big games out on the wing. He's proven time and time and time again he doesn't have the quality to be a Utd attacking player.

We should have played Mata or Rashford. AV could cope with Coutinho.

And to think, so many people wanted rid of him in Summer. Has always been an excellent squad player and I'm chuffed for him that he is taking his chances.

And that's the issue we have. He's the bright spark in 2017 as a left back.

Not signing Perisic looks dumber by the game.

Yeah, signing another average player was the key to our season.

He's not the best, but I will give him this: he's trying to take charge out there. Is absolutely everywhere. Wonder if it's any coincidence he's one of the last ones with experience under Fergie...

I've liked Young at left back this season but he was absolutely terrible today. About 20 crosses and all of them absolutely rubbish. Why does Valencia no longer get forward? He was one of our best wide attackers last season. And surely Shaw would be better at LB? At least give the kid a try, can't be any worse.

If he could cross a ball he'd be amazing. He constantly gets into dangerous positions and is great at giving us width and thrust down the left but then it comes to putting the ball into the box and it alwasys seems to be over hit.

His hard work and good attitude can't mask how painfully ordinary he is, the fact he is still starting for us is an issue.

So much heart.

So much averageness

Unfortunately true, I also think it was a poor pass from him which lead to the first goal. He had so much time and space and played Mata into a difficult position. So many crap performances today though, can't be too critical I guess.

What happened with the Young of the 2011-12 season? He was so good at long range shooting and had good crossing. Not surprised he was removed as a winger. Needs to improve if he wants a new contract

How is he still stealing a living at Utd?! Typical performance today... puts himself anbout but spends too much time crying to the ref and looking like he deserves better. You don’t Ashley... you don’t.
Nowhere near good enough

So annoyed when he passed up the perfect chance to cross when we had about 8 beanpoles in the box.

He'd have shanked it anyway I guess.

Well that was the old frustrating Young I have criticized a lot during SAF. I thought he put this kind of performance past him already ?

I rather we let him go than offer him a new contract. His best days the rare ones are gone.

He was rubbish I thought. But I blame Jose for messing around with the LB position.

Nah, he always put one or two decent performances in a row and people start celebrating him like crazy, he can hit one good crosses in 5 attempts, he's always been really inconsistent since SAF left, most of the times he's pretty bad though especially during Moyes' season, he was better in Van Gaal era but nowhere near the quality to be starter for United, the fact that he's now our first choice left back tells you a lot about our squad

During Moyes season I actually reached a stage of hating seeing him playing for us but these last 3 years he was a good squad player.

Today is the old Young I know.

Yeah I have insane amount of hate for him too during Moyes' season, true that he's good squad player but right now he apparently is our first choice left back

Better give him a new contract than Darmian... at least Young can get in good positions even if mostly nothing comes out of it. Darmian is only good at sideways and backwards passes...that's sadly, our situation, chosing the better of the worst

2 wingers as Full Backs. FFS We are Manchester United. Get rid of the deadwood we have and give some of the youngsters a chance or bring in someone in January.

Had me fuming when i took a shot out wide just outside the box with his left foot when Matic was standing right behind him ready to shoot. Felt that Matic would have got the shot on goal/scored from there.

Young, an embodiment of what United have turned into. He has been at the club for so long, possibly close to a testimonial and I can't honestly remember any stand out performances. A lot of huff and puff or "passion" as they call it. Stuffed at left back because the manager won't go out and buy a quality left back. End product, as ever, is awful. If manchester United wants to elevate back into the upper bracket of teams, the club needs to get ruthless. Young is amongst a batch of players who seemingly get new deals every year, avoid the axe and repeat the same mediocrity. He is not alone in this. Buying players is not enough.. Buying the right quality and disposing off mediocrity is what matters. Too many excuses are made for poor players and the result, just like today, is what we see.
