Ashes II - 2013/14 - In Australia

Broad wants to review everything

Ashes II isn't correct is it?

Anyway...

England should beat this Aussie side.

Strauss - 'Kevin is not noted for his ability to buy lunch', English code for dickhead.

Big wicket before lunch! Poor shot, just as Australia were looking to be in a good position.

Good session for England in the end, very poor shot from Watson to get out before lunch.

Looks to be a very good batting surface, they really should be making close to 400 on this. Warner has played well so far.

I would have had Finn here.

If he's expensive go for the Swann/Broad thenAnderson rotation, but at least he's got some fecking pace. England's attack has looked unthreatening. Broad's been the only one whose really threatened at all.

Only just realised that this has started. Decent start for england so far. Hope the aussies can get plenty of runs

Sky are being a bit disingenuous to Simon Jones in all there references to that slip.

Yeah, he should have played more test matches if not for those injuries but he was absolutely key in 2005 and was Wisden Cricketer of the year after that.

They're making it sound like he literally never played again.

England let it slip there. Poor captaincy by Cook again IMO, should have attacked more with Swann. Anderson looks very off colour, which should be worrying for England.

Went to bed about half way though second session, fantastic start by England, get Australia out for under 320 and you would take that every single time at the Gabba.

The crowd targeting Broad is a hugely stupid idea, he clearly loves it, just want to see a Carberry ton tomorrow!

Isn't it too soon to pass judgement on him? Looked a good batsman to me on India tour.

Of course, he looked like filth though.

Playing and missing, fishing for the ball outside off, not leaving etc...

In fairness, Andeson bowled very well to him and dragged him back and across but it was obvious that he was falling into his trap from about the 2nd bal.

Where can we catch highlights of each days play? (If we don't have Sky)

Surprised England came out so strongly on the first day to be honest. I haven't heard what happened yet beyond the scorecard but I wouldn't be surprised if the Aussies turn out to have put a decent score on the board after England have bat.

England should go on to post a commanding lead. I gave up just before Smith's wicket (listened to it on TMS before I fell to bed), but there was nothing in the pitch at all.

England bowled well, but I don't think anyone was really got out, apart from probably Bailey. Rogers and Clarke's dismissals weren't aberrations but you should have expected them to survive those balls, Watson utterly threw his wicket away and Warner maybe got undone by a ball that sat up a LITTLE bit more if you're being very generous to him.

There's runs in this pitch.

Sky sports news website?

I just watched the wicket I missed without signing in or anything.

The worrying thing for Australia is that England weren't especially good. Just bowled okay and took their catches. If that's all it takes to get this side out then they're in trouble.

Nope that's wrong.

Broad bowled brilliantly and Anderson was excellent in one of his spells. The only time England got flat the Aussies dominated.

Anderson will bowl like that all series. He's rarely anything else. Broad was good but he can bowl better.

I'd be surprised if England have many days this series where they bowl below that level.

Yeah they were.

Australian batting has been average for quite some time but I think it's a bit hard on England to say that Aussies were getting themselves out. Broad kept on bowling full instead of losing his mind and going short.

The worry for Australia is the pitches in England suited their bowlers. I am not sure they'll be as successful as they were against someone like Cook for instance this time round

Australian batting is just shit. What the hell happened to them? Steven Smith and Bailey? Test players?

Great day for England, the pitch is an abslute pancake so if we bat well it should be 100-150 lead job.

Agree with NM above, the Aussie side is made up of ODI stroke makers, ridiculous top 6. Their tail aint bad though.

It's half way in between.

England probed away, and were pretty accurate but I think by test match standards thats nothing to really shout about. There were no magic spells, just put the ball on the spot and hoped (of course the ball was doing nothing, so theres that).

As I said before I think Bailey was probably got out with some clever bowling from Anderson, but it was his fault as well in a way for leaving poorly and not getting himself off strike. Just completely let Anderson set him up.

Another nothing dismissal. Doesn't look like they'll get 300. For Australia to not even make 300 on this pitch is pathetic.

Awesome effort from Prior that.

Also booing Broad still, you think they'd learn.
