Ashes I - 2013 - In England

Oof thought that was going down leg.. It was the inny. It's lyon anyway.

Was going miles down. Another shocker from Darr - he's never been any good at giving LB's anyway.

How long do we reckon it will take England to overhaul the lead? I reckon 20 odd overs.

Let Harris get a few more than we should there. Good morning's work, so far, nonetheless. Bat well and get a lead of 250 and this should be 3-0.

200 will be right in the mix. On the first innings showing and the life in the deck the Aussies would be backing themselves to roll them for under 200. I can see it happening if we can get a rattle on. Not really had much of that prior to the last day at Old Trafford.

Like when I said earlier in the thread these parts are where England have fought back in recent times. Aus get some power to drive them into the dust they come back. It's very different to that of 15 years ago.

Yeah, I don't think there's anything in it, right now. This little session and the next will be crucial.

Very happy with that in the end. Both sides will be pretty content I reckon. Why don't we just have DRS for every LBW appeal as it seems pretty clear the umpires haven't got a clue. Incorrect decisions in this series must be up around 20 by now.

"He'll be foraging for a wicket here, Bird. Looking to expose a fresh Root."

Warnes was rubbish.

It is not seaming as much as it did yesterday.

England ahead at the moment for me, unless they bottle it by giving wickets away.

Which with the current line up in this nick can always happen. Especially as Cook has scored his quota of 50's in a series or something like that

The old shower does the trick!

I swear you could do a reverse Damien Martin for Trott. Two leg gulleys, two bat pads. A square leg an just bowl at his hip.

Root's not had a good time opening the last few sessions. Might be an idea to put him lower in the order...

Annoyingly they won't do it till at least the winter tour. Clearly he is too tentative against the new ball currently which is weird as he opens all the time for Yorkshire.

Decent morning for England, shame to lose Root but with Rogers (miraculously) on a 100 and Australia having closed to within 16 of the lead for 5 wickets lost, the game could well have been taken away from them this morning. Get past this deficit without losing anymore and I think they'll be fancying their chances, certainly with Australia having to bat last.

Curious stuff from Pietersen, perfectly capable at playing straight but get trying to turn it to midwicket and square leg.

They really need to do something about the ridiculous bad light decisions in test cricket, neither team wants to go off, where's the problem?

Of course its also stupid that Durham even has a test in the first place when Edbaston (and Headingly) with floodlights don't.

What was the point of that? fecking shit umpiring.

They distribute them fairly amongst the grounds. Headingly had a test against New Zealand.

Bell must surely get Man of the Match for this one, he's close to another century. His batting has been the only consistent thing about England in this series so far.

Bell's been utterly brilliant so far this series, key 100's every time. Timely too as quite a few people were getting a bit impatient with him (might have just been me).

Bell finally worked his game out. Feel he'll average well over 50 by the time he retires. 5 years of heavy run scoring.

He's just in very good form. He's still prone to doing ridiculous things, as he showed in the first innings. I'd be surprised if we aren't back to worrying about him at some stage in the next couple of years.

Bell again the savior! What a series he's had. Disappointing for the Australians they'd have really thought they were in with a real shot.

I don't think you're out of it yet. Two early wickets tomorrow and Broad's in. He's not remotely reliable with the bat. Nor are the next two after him. The pitch doesn't seem to be getting worse.

England are huge favourites but they still have work to do.

Aussies definitely not out of it. They can chase anything up to 300 I reckon, ball really stops doing anything once it gets a bit old.

Bell's such a technically excellent player that he was always going to have a series where it just clicked for him.

Hopefully it can remain so, but I have a horrible feeling his mental weaknesses will return and will leave us scratching our heads asking how on earth he just got himself out.

It has similarities to the start of the previous day. England will need to get 100-150 to put Aus out of the game completely and then that is if they can bowl them out. If the Aussie skittle them they may be in with a chance.

Personally I can't see Aus winning from here.
