Arturo Vidal

To think of it, if Rooney is "very, very happy" about a potential signing, who that could be? Think muppets think. Definitely not a forward as Rooney won't want someone meddling with the bromance between him, RvP, Welbeck, Mata etc. It has to be either Vidal or Hummels. A possibility of Di Maria too but he is very close to PSG already. It is difficult to see Klopp eating a broom so I will put my money on that player being Vidal. Another strong signal towards ArturON. Thanks Paddy.
It's Vermaelen isn't it...

Wasn't the quote that Rooney was very happy at the club rather than with any potential signing?

He first talked about Rooney being very happy and then in same sentence added about Rooney mentioning a player. This means Rooney is very happy about how things are going under LvG and also excited about new potential signing.

I didn't hear it in context but, unless Paddy is on a dangerous WUM, then it's pretty clear.

Vidal will travel with the squad but can leave the club if he wants to according to Juve's CEO. [Sky Italia]

He is back in full training now, Im sure he will be playing football matches by October/November.

Still its a risk waiting until jan, if his heart is set on strootman. The other problem, if he comes back and he is playing well, I cannot seeing them selling in january. So either way the transfer is a problem

Clutching at straws maybe but everything that seems to be coming out from Juve is that he can go if he wants i.e. putting the pressure on him to put in a transfer request if he does do that doesn't he miss out on some of the money should a deal go through? Maybe's that's what's holding it all up?

Like I said clutching at straws but neither the player or the club are very firm in their desire to stay together

Not feeling confident about this at all now. I get the feeling Van Gaal will want a more defensive player, a la Strootman.

I'd be more than happy if we got Strootman and De Jong in.

He'll surely lose some sort of loyalty bonus/signing on bonus etc., but on the other hand we're supposedly offering him a vastly increased wage, so you wouldn't have thought he'd be too worried about that.

I think the hold up being from our side is much more likely, considering we don't seem interested in anyone until LVG has finished assessing his squad. Finishing our pre-season will be more important than Vidal going on his.

The longer this drags on, the more uninteresting this becomes. The player, if he want to move, should man up and put in a transfer request..

Stop with this De Jong nonsense, we're not getting him and he is not good enough.

Not gonna happen he's adored by Juve fans and won't risk a move going wrong. You can easily argue if United want the player they should make the move happen with an actual bid that forces Juve's hand.

You just beat Real Madrid 3-1, do you really need him at that price?

I'm just saying I'd take him, not saying we'll get him, especially if it's along with Strootman.

Considering how strong Madrid's squad was before they added Kroos and James this summer, I think we have space to squeeze Vidal into ours. If we want to consistently compete with the best, we need him.

Chiellini quotes in the Twitter thread have bashed me on the head. He says he thinks Vidal will stay and be important for the coming season. Considering he will be chatting to Vidal on a daily basis those are worrying words. Isn't he club captain?

I seem to remember players say things like this all the time though. I can't think of any examples though.

I think LvG's recent comments about buying for the future and not for a quick fix rules De Jong out straight away.

Ah yeah, forgot about that. Id still love a bit of Strootman.

Vidal himself has to kill the speculation, Chilleni's testimony means very little.

He wants what's best for the club. Saying "yeah he could leave" wouldn't be smart, would it?

Seems like it's over; to the strootman thread guys, he'll cost us more than Vidal; not as good, sigh!

I think there was a strong reason why we briefed the English press early on to nip our anticipation in the bud,but alas we had twitter and google translate

Its still a real Madrid side. Was it a full strength United side?
To be fair, it's just a friendly, not really an indication for what is to come. Two areas need strengthening, midfield and central defense and I hope to God we are trying to get more players in. These successful results should not be influencing our desire to improve this squad.

Again? That's a lot of times this has been "over" in the last 4 weeks.

There are other options...De Rossi, Strootman, Kovacic, Carvalho, Khedira, Bender, Schniederlin, Schweinsteiger, Veratti. If we dig a bit there are other players in his position, I doubt any are as complete or as good as Vidal but there's other options.
