Arsenal 22/23 - go to new thread

Yeah I understand it was a great comeback but I was watching some Arsenal fans last night talking about how they were in tears after the match and they're definitely gonna win it now, all seems like too much too soon when there's still 1/3 of the season to go
Are you talking about us fans being too emotional or the team? Not sure what influence fans losing their minds (like myself when Nelsons shot went in) has on the title?

Long way to go , but celebrating wins is far better than coping wu

Either way, who cares, it beats losing.
I love seeing all this passion, it’s been missing for 15 years.
I never get people moaning about the joys of football, there’s enough low points we’ve had over the years, that we can unapologetically love what’s happening now, celebrate to the rafters, and enjoy every minute. And if the oil country pip us to the title, then so be it. Doubt they’ll dance in the streets of Abu Dhabi as we will in north London if we end up champions.

I know aye, completely agree. This could be a fluke season for us and it may be back to the top 4 slog again. That’s why I love seeing this young team go nuts when they get results like this. In the last few weeks, we’ve dug deep to find a resilience I wasn’t sure we had.

Both, for the players I think when they're having to put so much into winning every game the mental fatigue will catch them later on when the pressure is really on, I don't think they have the experience to deal with it.
As for the fans everything is too extreme from the doom and gloom after the City loss to the tears of happiness after beating Bournemouth

Wasnt such a great atmosphere when you were 0-2 down against one of the worst teams in the league though was it?

This sickening trend of Arsenal fans coming on here spouting how great they are needs to end, fast.

Only a blanket ban would stop that

I see them throwing the EL to focus on the League. I don’t think they’ve got the depth to handle doing both and it does raise some doubts whether they‘re going to have staying power. There’s been plenty of instances where a team can do really well when they only have one competition for a lot of the season, then underwhelm in the following season.

I don’t think their European group next season is going to be as easy as FC Zurich and Bodo/Glimt, sandwiched in between potentially hard league games.

Yeah they couldn't care less about Europa

beginning to look like us 20 years ago, I'm sad to say. I dislike the club and I dislike their tosspot fans

Yeah and next season you will be facing another oil giant from Manchester as well, small matter of Newcastle also likely to spend with their mega rich ownership too

I wouldn't be surprised if Newcastle outspent us and City combined. Wouldn't even put it past them to put in a sneaky bid for Messi...

Yes but generally speaking it's been a while both clubs have been passing the baton to each other as banter FC. We joined the party around 2013 but we've been in the same group more or less at least in my friends group of mainly United and Arsenal fans that's how it's seen. Now Arsenal will be part of the top clubs again before us (though we're not far behind).

Also, we're really good this season and I feel we can clinch it if only they lost a few games but they keep on winning which is very frustrating

The first part is definitely true but I'd say us Arsenal fans have spent a good decade longer in the desert so I see it quite different. I think it's a lot easier to be patient when in the previous 10 years you've won 5 leagues and 1 CL.

And yes, since Utd changed manager and got rid of toxic cristiano, your team has looked really good. I'd expect next year to be a title challenge if ten Hag continues to improve your squad. With Liverpool and Chelsea not the same and the slight hope of sanctions against City, it'd be nice to see a revival of an Arsenal-United title race.

Maybe. But we’re a very young and inexperienced team so I think this naïveté (if that’s how you want to see it) is understandable. At least we’ll be able to say we gave it everything, and I can’t ask for much more as a fan.

It's refreshing to see a team that plays with such passion. I personally think the last minute wins build momentum and build energy not the reverse. I've seen 20 years of teams that lacked passion and I think it's more draining to go down 0-2, get demoralized and lose than it is to win in the final minutes. That tends to build momentum. Its a long way to go still and 20 years still makes me a cynic but wins like that definitely do good things for team morale overall. 5-10 years ago I'd see 0-2 and the team wouldn't have the willpower to come back. Very refreshing to see this team. Arteta has really done a remarkable job and certainly exceeded my expectations.

We have been banter FC for almost 2 decades. No harm in expressing some joy.

Most Arsenal supports like myself are millennials, we were kids when they last won the title. It's a great feeling knowing we are pushing again and that investment looks likely to continue. The stadium debt really made us motionless for too long.

Yeah shame we won't have that concern about stadium debt IF Qatari's get it,jeez you were kids in 2004 I was 19

Really hope I don’t hear United in the same breath as arsenal for the reason of the season. You guys are no where near being close to us and City.

Haven’t you got anything better to do than be on another clubs forum on a Sunday night? You’re top of the league, go and enjoy it. Everyone knows it’s a one off and next season you’ll be back to being the nothing club you are.

I’d like to know what this opinion is based off on? Next season shall indeed be interesting. We will have fiercer competition for sure but our ability to control games this season has me no reason to doubt this is a one season fluke. The metrics and stats prove the eye-test, too.

Whereas everytime I’ve seen United this season, they’re still basically playing Ole tactics, but with a few better players. Those tactics are unsustainable if you want to be competing at the very top. So unless that changes I don’t see anything more than a top 4 spot again for yourselves next season.

Based off what I believe is to be true and that is that there isn’t anything special about anything you’re doing this season and have been aided by the fact City have shit the bed, Liverpool have gone off the boil and Chelsea are having a madness of a season. You are doing a Leicester.. and even then I still don’t think you’ll win it.

See, we all have opinions and just like mine about your team.. I think yours about mine is utter horse turd. With that, we aren’t likely to agree on anything so enjoy your evening.

This has totally enforced my view about not caring if Qatar take us over, yes a Pagliuca/Ballmer is better for the image but we need mega investment looking at today

We've still to go to Anfield, Liverpool are more than capable of rattling a good few goals against us as well.

Give it a rest mate. You've been irrelevant for 20 odd years. You have a moment in the sun because the usual strong teams are playing shit.

Hmm can't say I agree ultimately. If City wins it, it'll be because they went on one of their insane runs and their superior squad depth will make a difference. Not because we were too emotional. I really don't think professional athletes (even as inexperienced as us) will suffer from emotional burnout to the point it would be the difference between us winning and losing the title.
How us fans react has no bearing on the title. But when your team has been out of Europe for years, won nothing but an FA Cup here and there, and expected this season to be another top 4 slog, I'm definitely going to enjoy the crazy ride.

You mean that team that has already comfortably beaten you twice this season and that you haven't managed to beat for the last several years? You really think you're "close" to that team? You're a poor man's version of them, maybe, but that's the best you'll ever be.

True, but beyond that we're actually not that far off Arsenal. We're not going to catch them but in the final table we'll end up being pretty close...notwithstanding the debacle against Liverpool.

Brings me joy, thanks! We love to celebrate whenever we want!

Their next two games- Palace and Leeds, both at home- are pretty easy for them and they have to win them because the fixtures after that are very tricky. It's quite a tough run in and they need the momentum and maybe a points cushion going into the games against Liverpool, City, Newcastle and Chelsea.

Not much panic on the streets of north london, that’s for sure.

Definitely. I do feel a bit more confident about Liverpool and City with Jesus back but we could easily lose both. Think we'll beat Chelsea and Newcastle this time around.

Almost to single digit games left.
That is the point where you think losing the title should be seen as a collapse right?

I know arsenal fans will downplay it but a lot of momentum with them and also a great attacking force.

If they lose two or three players to injuries then that is unlucky however

It's still only 5 points with City to play at The Etihad. So a defeat there and a draw elsewhere could lose the title. Not sure I'd call that a collapse yet, as much as other fans are dying to use that narrative.

Saw one Arsenal fan who said it's not bottling it if they don't win it now, as City were always the favourites.

But leading pretty much from start to finish and not seeing it out would certainly be a huge upset.

I honestly don't see it like that. We have a 5 point lead but we play in their home. And they have a better team on paper.

City will drop points elsewhere... They have the CL and the FA to worry about as well. They won't make more than 90 points. Most likely 85/86.

You only need 24 of the 33 points still available (20 will probably be enough)... That's somewhere between 1,8 and 2,18 ppg.. Until now you've sustained 2,44. Unless you drop 20-25%, you have it in the bag... If that happens and City clinch the title with 85 points, I'd call that a collapse.

Oh defo not yet. I think once we're in single digit games , five points is a healthy lead. Pressure is on city not to drop points and be almost perfect to first overhaul you and then keep above you.

April is a tricky month for you for sure but the advantage is the game is at the end of April Vs city

If we finish between 85-90 points then i'll be happy regardless.

Jesus looked sharp, will be good to have him back, adds another dimension.

With 66 points on the board, and 33 points to play for, I'd be really disappointed not to get 85+ points from here, I can certainly say that much. I can't predict if that will win the league, or what we'd need to hit to win it. I'm not sure I see City dropping many points to be honest.
