I think some of the criticism is perfectly valid. The characters are playing up to their shtick and are behaving on-camera in a way you wouldn't off-camera. Other people see that worked for DT and Troopz so are trying to go viral themselves. I agree that the random folks are more enjoyable because it feels more genuine.
Robbie's in a difficult position though. He interviews around twenty after a game, of which about five or six are recognisable characters, given Claude and Ty do it together in one video.
So it's not true to say it's the same people only. It's the same people who clock up 100k+ views while the randomers get maybe 20-40k. Still a lot but the difference is big.
Also it's not that he only deals with fan-cams. He does a Friday show previewing the weekend's games which is a relaxed sit down chat with some guy called Lee. He does videos when it's only him talking. Interviews with ex players and inviting other international fans to come on.
A lot of people who say AFTV only deal in rants only watch when they don't win for the rants. This is the same with Redmen, Fulltimedevils, Unitedstand whose biggest videos are after defeats. That attracts opposition fans which is the tribalism of football. It's always been around except except it's now in video form. Still Whenever Liverpool lose the RAWK thread is at the top and the same would be vice versa. The problem comes when as mentioned above, certain people are playing up to the camera, making a fool of themselves and and tars the whole fanbase.
So what does he do? Cut off the people who like it or not have become big factors of the channel. Claude and Ty first appeared in 2012! Their first viral vid was in 2014. He could have nipped it a long time ago but now that chance is long gone.
Maybe he is profiting of failure. I'm sure he never intended to make big money off his club being a joke. Rightly or wrongly when Troopz got a lot of hits first time he was invited on again, and a third time and now it's a normal thing. I don't like DT or Troopz. For a while I thought Moh was insufferable but he's quite low-key now.
But I respect Robbie and what's he built. Unlike certain other channels, he had to put his hand into his own pocket to start it off at a time when fan channels weren't really a thing. There was no production company funding it and hiring polished, professional presenters and sets. Those channels are the ones who were built for profit and funnily enough most of them have been shut down because they didn't get many views to justify paying for.
