It the end, clubs really don't give a shit about us so I no longer feel the same kind of allegiance I once did as a kid.
Football is now a multi-million (probably billion) £/$ industry and once the multi-media giants, Disney+, Amazon Prime, etc get a further foot in the door, any lingering concern for
loyal fans will fly out the window.
The Premier League were (up to Sheikh Mansour/Abu Dhabi) taking over at Man City, sitting in the driving seat, they had the best product in the world and they knew it, and as far as the top English Clubs are concerned they eventually realised that they were
already members of 'the Super League'. However the Sheikh's insistence that it's his club, and he can fund it how he likes, and his ability (so far) to get away with this, has seriously '
holed the PL below the water line'.
When in the last decade of the 20th century the new PL was set up, nobody at that juncture dreamed that rulers of foreign countries (who wrote their own rules) would turn up as 'wealthy beyond dreams' owners of PL clubs, and quite naturally enough want to run their clubs how they wanted and for whatever 'spin off' benefits (sports -washing) being one, they wanted!
Fans are now being viewed differently, as 'contributors' to the pot, not loyal dyed-in-the-wool fans. Live match broadcasting, started it all, then multi-faceted offers on overseas trips/hotel/match tickets/souvenirs, are all increasingly on offer. Why worry about 75,000 fans crammed into a decaying stadium, when you can sell 75m viewing offers to anyone around the world who has bought into the francise, probably all home and away matches viewed live... for a price. Concessionary offers (OAP/Children) are being whittled away, season ticket offers etc all now subject to how many games you attended the season before.... even if you have already bought your ticket pre-season.
Club and fan
mutual loyalty, never really existed, but there is no future in it going forward.
