Are Saudi Arabia taking over world sport?

If only Manchester united (and other teams) and the majority of their fans had a bit of integrity like this gent. As opposed to bending over and opening up for Blood money

The Glazers have zero morals as we know, but comparing a partnership that amounts to United advising to Newcastle becoming a full blown sports washing project owned directly by the Saudi Government is a stretch to say the least. They're not even remotely the same thing.

Plus what the feck do United fans have to do with that? On the breaking of that news were any United fans outside Old Trafford wearing tea towels on their heads?

So you are saying that there is a threshold. what is acceptable 1 pound? 100? 10K? 10M? Or more

It is only acceptable being owned? being in a partnership and buddy buddy doesn't count?

Or is that at least Newcastle sold themselves for more millions and Newcastle sold by cheap?

Blood money is blood money. Being whichever quantities. And sports are selling themselves regardless of the origin of it.

Newcastle fans supports newcastle. Manchester united fans supports manchester united and if your club accepts blood money, you accept it too. So whatever you criticize their fans, you do too.

You can spin it the way you want, but is 100% hypocritical and I hope you stop supporting manchester United as you should be embarrased by your club to accept blood money. And sure if your team would be purchased by Qatar, you would lap it up somehow to keep supporting it

No I'm not saying any amount is acceptable but you are trying to conflate to very different things. United fans can't control some deal the Galzers ok'd. And they certainly weren't dancing in the streets with tea towels on their heads celebrating it nor defending Saudi Arabia online.

Stop talking absolute bollocks mate.

We weren't and I was vehemently against that possible takeover. So again stop talking bollocks, seriously.

Comparing a minor deal from the best part of a decade ago that was likely of no tangible financial benefit for Manchester United with the money the Glazers leech from the club to Newcastle being owned by the Saudi Royal Family is ridiculous.

Neither the Newcastle fans could control selling the club to the saudies

Again, several millions is not minor and yes, I am sure you would be against, but you would not be quitting manchester United. I am sure there are Newcastle fans that they were in favour and some against. The same would happen with manchester United

The attitude of Holier than thou in the times that we live in doesnt suite anyone and criticizing football clubs for something that any other club does at minor or major scale is really talking bollocks. Manchester United accepted blood money in millions. Period

So many other clubs and people in other sports

With that I am not saying is the correct thing to do. The opposite. But I am not blind to believe that any of the big clubs are much better than the others, usually. And manchester united is definitely one of them

I have been a United supporter since the early 1980s. I would have abandoned them if they got bought by a nation that was using it for sports washing. They would no longer be recognizable as "my team". Hell, the only reason I made it through the Glazers takeover was SAF. It the end, clubs really don't give a shit about us so I no longer feel the same kind of allegiance I once did as a kid.

They were launching petitions, campaigns and appealing to the government to get it pushed through.

They're not even remotely similar scenarios mate.

but you would not be quitting manchester United

You know this how?

I seriously doubt I could derive any enjoyment from watching United if the club was owned by a bunch of human rights abusing cnuts like the royal family of Saudi Arabia.

So some newcastle fans. Mate, manchester united fans are not better than newcastle. They come in many flavours

They are exactly similar escenarios. In the end is all about money and fans have 0 saying on who the glazers can sell the cub to

Good on you that you that you would not enjoy United. And i am of the same opinion.this kind of money should be out of sports. Still, your club as many others, is partially financed by saudi arabia blood money, so the least that you should do, is not being very vocal about others accepting the same kind of money, being more or less quantity.

Genuine question have you been living under a rock mate?

You clearly haven't been paying attention to how Newcastle fans have been behaving since the rumours about the Saudi takeover even broke. The majority of them from day one were full steam ahead on project sportwash.

And no I'll continue to criticise the majority of Newcastle fans for their crass behaviour and support for the Saudi Arabian Royals and government.

Football is now a multi-million (probably billion) £/$ industry and once the multi-media giants, Disney+, Amazon Prime, etc get a further foot in the door, any lingering concern for loyal fans will fly out the window.

The Premier League were (up to Sheikh Mansour/Abu Dhabi) taking over at Man City, sitting in the driving seat, they had the best product in the world and they knew it, and as far as the top English Clubs are concerned they eventually realised that they were already members of 'the Super League'. However the Sheikh's insistence that it's his club, and he can fund it how he likes, and his ability (so far) to get away with this, has seriously 'holed the PL below the water line'.

When in the last decade of the 20th century the new PL was set up, nobody at that juncture dreamed that rulers of foreign countries (who wrote their own rules) would turn up as 'wealthy beyond dreams' owners of PL clubs, and quite naturally enough want to run their clubs how they wanted and for whatever 'spin off' benefits (sports -washing) being one, they wanted!

Fans are now being viewed differently, as 'contributors' to the pot, not loyal dyed-in-the-wool fans. Live match broadcasting, started it all, then multi-faceted offers on overseas trips/hotel/match tickets/souvenirs, are all increasingly on offer. Why worry about 75,000 fans crammed into a decaying stadium, when you can sell 75m viewing offers to anyone around the world who has bought into the francise, probably all home and away matches viewed live... for a price. Concessionary offers (OAP/Children) are being whittled away, season ticket offers etc all now subject to how many games you attended the season before.... even if you have already bought your ticket pre-season.

Club and fan mutual loyalty, never really existed, but there is no future in it going forward.

Hey mate, whatever makes your conscious happy

3 years after their "transformation". Still crap. And all those money being spent on their league didnt really improve their national team.

To be fair, that generally takes a generation or three. Young kids showing up to games to see star players get excited about the game and sign up for youth leagues etc... I assume the Saudi's are developing good youth programs as well but I could be wrong.
