Aquilani to Liverpool

You could not have made a worse thread even if you tried.

If Alonso has gone for 28m Euros and Aquilani is bought in for 20m Euros that an 8m Euro difference around £6m. If that's true, I'm glad they've spent the bulk of the transfer money already even though I rate Aquilani as a good player.

I always thought Aquilani was very Gerrard-esque. I don't see how the two of them will play in the same team, as they'll both want to be doing the same things every time. Essentially they've not replaced Alonso with Alonso, they've replaced Alonso with Gerrard.

That's stupid. He's an injury prone, diving wop.

That's racist.

20m is far, far too much.

I would be surprised if the fee is 20m, considering Roma's financial problems.

Clubs will still hold out for the best price they can get, hence why Villa and Silva are still at Valencia despite them being a few £100m in debt.

Aquilani (for 20m Euros) and probably Christian 'I'm utter shite' Poulsen as replacement for Xabi Alonso... if Liverpool indeed sign both I won't stop laughing for a good while
What a waste of money especially Poulsen would be, I doubt even Benitez can be this insane and indeed choose to sign Poulsen.

checked his appearance record .. has played very little in the last few years .. misses around half of every season ..

is he injury prone or not good enough to get that many games

He is like Saha, averaging around 15 league games a season. Seriously. Cracking player on his day, but rarely ever fit.

Looks a good player from what i have seen of him.

You would have thought he would be over his injury problems if Liverpool are paying £20mil for him. Though saying that, you dont know with Rafa.

Aquilani has a very good shot on him, atleast on pro evo anyway.

Aquilani is perhaps one of the few players who can capably replace Alonso. Could be a total flop, but I think Rafa is actually making a good call (for once) on this one.

it's essentially replacing proven premiership quality with quality unproven in the premiership. i doubt he'll end up being an improvement on alonso.

that's if the transfer happens.

that and a probable ~£10m profit on the scouses part. Its a risk, but personally it would surprise me if a player like Aquilani didnt adapt to the premiership at least reasonably well.

This also probably means that De Rossi is now completely off limits - Roma arent going to sell both of them in one transfer window.

Don't forget that a chunk of that 10m will go on agents' fees, signing bonuses etc which are not payable if no transfer happens. There's no doubt that their hand has been forced and it's not a great deal for them at all.

"Adapt quite reasonably well" is not quite good enough to start for a premiership "big four" club. It'll be interesting to see how this goes, but Italians have had very mixed (ie not great) fortunes when playing in England. It'll be even more interesting to see what they can do with that 10mil profit before the transfer window closes.

Guardian:

With £30m banked for Alonso, Liverpool are now expected to make an £18m offer for the Roma midfielder, Alberto Aquilani. The Italian international is under contract at the Stadio Olimpico until 2013 but is believed to be receptive to a lucrative move to Anfield.
Let's just hope they buy Aquilani and Benitez wastes around £10m on Poulsen.

Well, personally I rate Aquilani as basically a lesser version of De Rossi. Assuming he doesnt flop (and whilst you can argue about Italian players not fitting in the EPL well, I think Aquilani will get on fine) then this will be a decent bit of business for the scouse, though it pains me to say it.

Lets just hope he flops then, although im sure the likes of Lucas and Eggnog will be able to step up and win them the premiership if that is the case!

De Rossi isn't really all that though. With a midfield of De Rossi, Aquilani, Perotta, Menez, and Totti, you'd expect them to steamroll their way through the league and Europe.

A lesser version of De Rossi?

De Rossi's like Roy Keane and Aquilani's like Paul Scholes, to put it in really simplistic terms.

What similarities do you see in the two?

Where is this Poulsen rumor from? He's fecking well shit he is.

The Italian guy I don't know much about to be honest, he's not going to be better than Alonso though that much is certain.

One of my mates was claiming that in the pub last night, I just didn't see it, as Poulsen wasn't a regular for Juve was he, and if so, I'm not sure they thought that much of him

To be fair, that's a brilliant signing..............

For us, Chelsea and Arsenal  that's two thirds of their Alonso fee blown. Doubt they'd afford Villa/Silva or any other quality attacker now.
