There is always risk. He could break his leg. Of course he could also turn into absolute garbage. But thats worst case scenario that's not likely at all. Antony has shown his quality since he arrived and is the best winger the Dutch league has seen in a very long time. Some players have stats that make them look better, for Antony the stats make it look worse than he is. Gakpo from PSV has better stats, but Antony is the better player for sure.

Because ETH has clearly stated (from the outside looking in) he wants FDJ done and over the line before going after anyone else? FDJ is vital to the way that ETH wants the team to play and it's clear from the outside looking in, it's he who he wants and no one else.
Once that's done, I would be very surprised if deals for Antony and co take as long. They'll fall like dominos.
Plus as I said yesterday, the rest of the deals hang on the FDJ deal. Whatever money is left after that will be all we have left to spend on others. If we were to get the others before getting in FDJ, we may not have enough budget left for FDJ and that won't be good either.

While this is true, Dortmund for instance went from 108 million to 72 million for Sancho, who is in my opinion a bigger talent with better stats.
Not saying Antony won’t work out or he will definitely go for less, but it’s no sure fire thing he’s going to fetch them a Nunez level fee.

One thing I like about Antony is that he could hold the width while the right back tucked which would suit Dalot. But if we can't get Antony then a right back is an absolute necessity now because none of our right backs are good out wide

I am not saying its a certainty but its also not out of the cards at all. Antony really is a potential star. Whether that will come to fruition next season or it takes longer remains to be seen. Ajax have sold defensive minded players like De Jong and De Ligt for 70-80m. Attackers are always much more expensive. Obviously they came off an incredible CL run, but with another CL coming up and a WC where is in serious contention for a starting place it is anything but unthinkable that he can catch the same hype train in the next 12 months. If he does, Ajax can sell him for record prices. If he does just retains his level without shooting off to mars, then Ajax can still get €55-60m. Therefore it makes no sense for Ajax to sell at that value right now. Ajax wants his quality on the pitch and there's a potential moonshot in his value in the next 12 months.
Agreed. I think De Jong will happen eventually and I'll be feeling relieved rather than joyous. Eriksen appears to be very 50/50. I'm not sure the supposed €50m it would take to get Martinez is that off putting. Even if it is, we could sign Pau Torres for a similar fee. The price for Antony is definitely prohibitive. I don't see too many alternatives to him. I assume Moussa Diaby would be valued similarly. The kid from Derby looks an interesting prospect, but won't be making much of an impact next season I'd imagine.
And when is that getting done ? You don’t know, right ? Nobody knows. So until then we aren’t getting anyone as you said. This thought process that we would get it done once FDJ happens is amazing as if everything would pan out accordingly to us once FDJ happens as if we dictate everything because as of now it’s not going to the plan. They thought they would get de Jong by now. It’s still nowhere close. So don’t get surprised the same happens in other transfers when they quote ridiculous prices as it’s now happening with Antony. The more we shop late in the window the more the other teams would know about our desperation. This sheer arrogance and utter stupidity that we would all get it done once FDJ signs and leaving until late in the window is just history repeating itself, nothing more.

We've left ourselves so many holes in the team it's difficult to prioritise to be fair. Certainly not a case that we don't need attacking players, we need both a striker and right winger. It just so happens our midfield and defence is also dreadful.

Saw two games, and it sickens me to see players performing these theatrics, pretending he has been elbowed, rolling about, trying to get opponents sent off.
If that's ok for you, then that's absolutely fine, but he seems like a bit of c*nt to me..
One thing that I did like, he chased an opponent back, and got in a good tackle to win possession, we don't usually see much of that in these parts.
On top of this though, I don't think he is a million miles different or better than what we currently have, at least not enough to possibly be overlooking signing more defensive players for.
If we had already signed 2 in Midfield, a RB and a CB, then perhaps a different story.

Just that we have a set budget we can spend (without accounting for outgoings) - so depending on what amount we end up spending on FDJ (priority), this will determine how much we’re able to spend on others - which probably means opting for options b/c in other positions as they’ll cost less than option a, as an example.

As 18 year olds Martial looked like he’d deliver more where it matters, whereas Ronaldo was undoubtedly more flamboyant, but they were both similar prospects.
Obviously as the years went by, one exceeded all expectations and the other failed on his early promise
