Yes. Rashford maybe will play upfront as striker when Martial not fit.
I think if Ronaldo stays then he has to start a lot of games up front against the teams that play deeper. Now that we’ve got Antony, we have a player with a quality delivery and Ronaldo will relish his crosses into the box.

Yeah ideal person to meet them, however is he willing to buy in when has wanted to leave

One thing I know for sure is Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelena fought for Raphinha's signature in the beginning of the window, and these clubs showed no interest in Antony.
Arsenal did not go for Haaland. What is your point?

Looking at how he’s been acting I think he will. He’s been professional and looking happy even though he’s been on the bench for the past few games. I think deep down he knows we’re going places with ten Hag and we’re improving.

Vinicius Jr is up there as well, only 22.

He was costed 45m euro in his 17 year old with the stat being 4 goals & 1 assist in 908 mins at 2017.
It was more unproved player with a big cash.
So that why most of the prospective young players cost that much when you see how much of RM spent on the market for each of that type of players in past decade.

Also, if he turns up well, we do not need to find another 2 wingers within next 8-10 years.

Man with so many in our own fan base just chomping at the bit to "told you so" - who needs the pressure and drama that will come from the ABU contingent out there.

From a United perspective, looking at our squad, we are threadbare on quality up front to worry defenses or just have any kind of options, especially with 5 sub option now. Manager has harped about it being the right player, right quality and obviously from his perspective he fits the bill. Ajax have already been plundered this season, their coach and players - so they were not going to give up a player like him, so we've had to ultimately pay.

More than likely chances are that he will never end up being what a 100m player should be, those are beyond rare. But, for United to even have a chance at competing for cup trophies or have a chance at top 4, we were going to have to over spend.

Just wish people would stop being so negative and more so get their posts in, so that in a few months come back and say "see, told you he was never going to be a 100m player". That we are getting a much needed right winger, one that can dribble, dazzle and create, something that epitomizes what United are about - then we should be over the moon.

The official announcement can't come soon enough.

Since that post gets quoted a lot: I am not comparing him to Ronaldo one to one or expecting him to be a generational talent. My point is never to write off talented players too early. That Ronaldo stats is to show you if there are more to players development and talent than just being a goal scoring machine since a young age like Haaland. And Yes I consider 22-25 still young for a footballer. See also: Robben.

You don’t expect him to be a “generational talent” or for him to score a lot of goals? A player we are paying €100m for!?

Is this the common consensus on here? What are the expectations we have for him? Do we expect him to be as good or better than Zaha? How about Nani? I get that it’s unlikely he’ll be another Ronaldo, but what exactly have we got for our €100m, this is an honest question too, I don’t have an opinion on it as I haven’t seen him enough. Curious for some comparisons.

Two things come to mind:
- I still remember how annoyed I was with Ronaldo in his earlier days at the club, with his unnecessary flicks and backheels and other stuff, most of which didn’t come off.
- Given his price tag, Antony will even more likely to do similar things, partly for entertainment value and partly because it’s in his DNA. We’ll need to be extra patient with him, it will be super grating, especially when his tricks don’t come off. But hopefully in time he will be super deadly with his bag of skills.

Super excited about this guy..
Antony, Sancho on the wings would leave the defenders with twisted blood :)

We’ve got a hard working, skilful and dangerous wide attacking player who will score, assist and contribute to the team overall. Seems like a character too.

There was a post a load of pages back from either an Ajax fan or at least someone who watches the league and they were saying to not just judge his goals and assists because he is also very good during build up play in general. So while it may not have been him assisting or scoring directly, he is involved in a lot of the creation of those chances. Words to that effect anyway. Made me think anyhow.

I’m looking forward to people having to eat their words, like with Martinez.

There is no point in buying another Elanga, we have one. In areas where we are short, we need to buy the right kind of player of high quality.

We need a SweeperKeeper and competition for Dalot next, of that kind of quality.

What is Dubravka's sweeper keeping ability

What is Dubravka's sweeper keeping ability

Hard to know with so many of his games being under Bruce who didn't, uhm, prioritize that aspect. He had the highest percentage of passes being long, with decent accuracy. Didn't sweep almost at all (bottom 10 percentile for defensive actions outside box). Dubravka is not an improvement on De Gea in any aspect of the game IMO.

On Saturday we had to bring on a well past his best Ronaldo for last 15(?) minutes or so. Having Antony as that option (or more likely starting with him) immediately makes us stronger. Don't get the negative posters.

If he can outperform all other forwards we currently have that's already good enough for me. But that would most likely mean double digit goals+assists (combined) with a lot of impact in general play. Beating defenders, work rate, good decision making, carrying Ten Hag's instruction well.

I don't think he'll be a starter... He's effectively been on strike.
Was thinking about that; match fitness will be lacking. I can’t wait to see him play. Hopefully we have an invigorated and injury free Martial, Sancho on the other side to give defences hell, combined with attacking threat from midfield with Eriksen and Bruno. We need to hammer somebody 4-0 asap.

My memory of Ronaldo was a zillion pointless stopovers, usually ending with tripping himself up.

It’s not when you consider the prices this summer. Scousers paying €100 million for Nunez, as the benchmark, which Ajax were rightly demanding.

That too is a fair point but two wrongs do not make it right.

We have been screwed because we left it so late and the main reason that this has gone ahead is because the Glazers are doing what they always do to appease the majority of the fans.

I hate this thread.

Always come in expecting some excitement and then I just see snarky, pessimistic arsey comments. Lighten up ffs! Enjoy it, its supposed to be exciting!

We’ve needed a player who can beat a man for a number of years now, Sancho hasn’t been able to do that up this point let’s hope Antony is that man

I'm not particularly happy with the transfer fee as my bank account isn't exactly great as it is.

It seems Ajax were demanding that price from the beginning of the window. The club should have sealed this one up quicker and helped integrate him into the squad. Instead we’re playing catch up again when our competition for champions league places did their business early.

Yeah you should, i agree, but if getting excited about a young Brazilian international winger, who our new manager loves, is too big of a positive step away from the worry, nerves and vomit for your liking....

Maybe what you could do is, actually watch him play, then form an opinion based on something tangible, instead of shitting yourself over things like our transfer history, things that have no relevance to Antony.

Which is exactly what I'll do. I will live in the present and form an opinion based on that. I presently haven't watched him play, just like the majority on here so I will not get excited by him purely based on a number of YouTube clips. We have just paid €100m for him and I do not think that this makes any sense, current 'market value' or not.

Currently I find paying the amount that we have for this player absolutely ridiculous and I believe that it has been done by the Glazers to stave off fan revolt. The most positive thing about it is that it appears to be a player that the manager actually wants and not a marketing ploy to rake in revenue from the fans who will now forget their hatred for them for a few months BUT that is a different matter entirely.

Like I said, I hope I am wrong and get loads of messages next summer laughing at me for being so wrong but it doesn't mean I can't be pessimistic or concerned at this very moment in time.

Arsenal would be one hell of a statement from us.

Maybe. Unfortunately, we'll never know what the earlier conversations around his cost were. As much as we will never really know for sure about the cost of him now to has been completed

Thrilled with this signing. Antony is exciting to watch with artistry and hint of magic, the kind of a player who gets spectators off their seats and makes football fun to watch. The kind of player that Sir Alex would have described as a 'proper manchester united player'. Glad we will get to watch him play for our team and bring excitement at Old Trafford (and hopefully titles with the team being built).

He will start when match fit, no doubt about it. Also, if he stays, I can see Ronaldo banging in some goals again from the service he provides - despite CR7 having only limited playing time.

People moan about fees then moan when we miss out on a player over £10-15m. He’s a very talented player in a position we desperately need upgrading.

We paid 85m.
Sao Paulo had a 20% sell on clause
20% from 85m is 17m
85m-17m= 68m
68m is what Ajax got

Back in June when it was reported that Antony wanted us the fee quoted of what Ajax wanted was 69m
https://www.skysports.com/football/...ay-69m-to-land-ajax-forward-antony-paper-talk

We couldn't go for Antony until late July because he was injured. This dragging like it did is because Ajax wanted what they always wanted the 69m and 85m is what got them that because the sell-on. We probably haggled a little bit thinking Ajax should pay it but it got late

Ah man I totally agree but it's never going to change. It's always been this way on the Caf. You get your moaners and you get your ridiculously optimistic fans. A bag of all sorts we are.

He's not there IMO. Had one great season, but is too inconsistent.
I'd say he had an amazing season, 17 goals 10 assists in La liga, 8 MOTM games. 4 goals and 6 assists in UCL, 2 MOTM games. Including scoring in the UCL final. He currently has 2 goals and 1 assists in 3 games in La liga.

You're right last season was his first great season but if you see him play you'll notice he's reach another level. I dont think this is a purple patch but only time will tell.

Exactly, even youngsters with potential are moving for crazy money at the moment. 45M for Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo. They have obviously worked out, but nobody talks about Reinier who cost madrid 25M and hasnt worked out.
