Is it a good moment to stop spelling his name with H?
Don't get your hopes up.

Had a guy play for us for almost a decade and this place still spelled it "Lingaard". Then the very same summer he finally leaves we end up with a manager people spell as "Haag'".

The entire thread is just people banging on and on about his Eredivisie stats being poor and how we have been rinsed for an unproven player.

Yes, he only has 8 goals and 4 assists in Eredivisie last season, but that was from 21 starts. Why exclude the 2 goals and 4 assists he had gotten from 7 CL games? Why exclude the 2 goals and 2 assists from 3 games this season? When you talk about stats you need to include context, otherwise it is pointless. A lot of you do not even understand the very basics of statistics yet you lot kept going on and on about it.

And there aren't a lot of left footed winger in the world, certainly not more than a handful that has the high ceiling of Antony. His major flaws are his decision making and consistency, but how many youngsters do not struggle with that kind of issues, especially as a flair player? Yes we definitely overpaid, but not by as much as this forum thought. €60-70m would be a fair price for him, but the shortage of supply coupled with our very very apparent need for such player means we do not have much of a bargaining power.

Think there's some sort of agendas at play. That's the only reason people ignore context, especially when context paints a completely different picture.

Ronaldo was two footed and developed into a physical beast. We paid 100m for the Brazilian Jarrod Bowen.

I am assuming this is hyperbole but you are doing a disservice to your valid point is overpriced by saying Brazilian Jarrod Bowen. If you really think he is similar to Bowen, you can't tell me Bowen is skillful and dribbles as good as this:

If we get a a striker who is good in the air and has good hold up play, Sancho and Antony should create tons of chances.
Yeah, not one of Martial's fortes. Maybe Ronaldo will buckle up and put a shift in once 1st of September passes.

Just to be more accurate, fees of those players you’ve listed above should be:

Antony - £80.75m + £4.25m add-ons
Nunez - £64m + £21m add-ons
Richarlison - £50m + £10m add-ons
Raphinha - £50m + £5m add-ons

Safe to say we’ve overpaid by around 30% of market price as compared to other players of similar calibre (ie Raphinha
).
AGE — Raphinha is also 3 years older than Antony despite being on the similar level. So add 15-20m to Antony as he has more years to render his services.

POTENTIAL— At 25, Raphinha is more of a finished article. And you can safely assume he is not gonna grow and develop his game anymore whereas Antony just turned 22, is still growing and adding more to his game. At 25-26, he might be better than Raphinha or stay the same but because of that talent and potential factor, add 10-15m more.

RESALE VALUE - Raphinha just moving to Barca and turning 26 in December would have very little resale value after let’s say 4-5 yrs of service whereas Antony would be in his prime if he moved after 4-5 yrs. Add 15-20 m to the fee.

So after taking 3 main points into account and after evaluating them for the two said players, the logical inference is if Raphinha is 50m then Antony should be 40-55m more than him. And given United paid 80 for him which is 30m more , it can be said that got him for cheap or least at par with Raphinha’s value.

The deal is done. Just enjoy. It is not fan's money anyway.
As you have probably read, there's just no pleasing some on here.

Three weeks ago we're bidding for Arnautovic and Rabiot, now we've got Antony and Casemiro, people still moan because of the fees.

United have been crying out for a DM and RW, we buy a player for each position, the Caf still moans about the fees paid.

Eric Ten Haag
Kryztian Erickson
Harry McGuire
Gary Linekar
Valteri Bottas

Yep that and auto correct usually changes it to "Anthony" so don't get your hopes up.

Doesn't this forum have a function of automatically changing words into something else? Would be great if some player names can be added into the list.

I’m seeing this a lot, but I think it’s unfair. I watched a lot of him last season and his assists could of easily of been triple of what they were, as he was victim to some really woeful finishing by his teammates.

Think people need to watch him rather than relying on stats.
I second this and in fact if people actually look at his overall numbers for Ajax, it’s quite good.

32 goal contribution in 57 matches in the league.
56 goal contribution in 82 matches in all competitions.

These numbers look pretty solid to me.
I think people are going by his last year’s numbers where he didn’t play that much.

Yeah, not one of Martial's fortes. Maybe Ronaldo will buckle up and put a shift in once 1st of September passes.
I think an in form Martial gives this team a lot because he's the one player who can receive the ball in central congested areas and not merely pass it back / get flustered by pressure. But yeah, he has fitness issues and isn't great in the air.

Cheaper price, apparently. Also there are posters who feel that Ajax robbed us, we Murtaugh was taken to the cleaners and and we are overpaying a lot. And there are 4 as good RW for 100 mil.

So yeah, the posters are never satisfied. I think it is connected with their childhood a bit - some traumas here and there, and now they are just expressing their dissatisfaction towards their favourite club, while the emotional criticism is actually a masked outcry for solving the childhood traumas.

Sigmund Freud, is that you speaking?

Any you can be sure many of them will mention the price every time he has a bad or average game even.

Nani esque vibes. We played some of our best football with a technical winger in the team.
Price tag aside , exciting signing .Ten Hag has pretty quickly identified the key issues of the team and the premier league.
Safe to say, our general play will improve leaps and bounds once the new signings are integrated properly.

Oh, absolutely. He brings a lot, not just scoring but the things you mentioned too. Loves to combine with teammates, play it quick, make one twos.

That's the bottomline. Whether these are successful purchases, time will tell. But clearly at this time they are much needed purchases. Better the money goes to the pitch than their pockets.

Also something that seems to be overlooked as a career mode and seasons player he’ll be fun to play with on FIFA :wenger:
Many young children decide who to support based on how fun the team is to play on FIFA. It is actually a thing in places where the younger generation is getting into football and older generation had no interest.

Really pleased with this signing. We've been crying out for a true right winger for years.
Not sure why some people are moaning. Enjoy it for fecks sake.

Sigmund Freud, is that you speaking?

Yes, this is me.

I have my theories about the fans. I hope they can be rehabilitated, but it's probably very enthusiastic thought and it's more reasonable to accept the reality as the moaning and pessimism is from their everyday lives and/or childhood.

Anthony is going to play under a manager who know's how to get the best out of him. This is an added advantage as Anthony knows exactly what is expected out of him.

I think age 25 is actually at a very good age to maximize fee, as we’ve seen in the past, world record transfer is Neymar at 25.

And I wouldn’t say Antony has higher ceiling than Raphinha, even though he is 3 years younger. I have watched their game in Brazil shirts, they look almost identical in talent, with Raphinha look even more electrifying/impactful. Younger doesn’t necessarily means better talent, as Antony isn’t really some 18 year kid type of unpolished raw talent, although he could still improve his decision making and end products. But in terms of pace/trickery/skills/electrifying footwork, 22-23 is actually near the peak age.

Messi and Ronaldo at around 22-23 is at their Ballon D’or peak level. Mbappe or Haaland at 22-23 is already among top top player in the world. For trickery/skilful attacking winger, usually at around 22-27 would be their peak years.

Below is their game earlier this year in the same Brazil game, against same opponents, for comparison:

People looking at stats need to check out Anthony Gordon's. He has just 5 goals in over 50 games - I have no idea about his assists. Everton are being offered serious money. Just the way the market has gone again after Covid. Much like everything else inflation has also hit football which is odd considering people are struggling with the cost of living on basic essentials.

Quantifying these things is impossible but I think your figures are way off.

Why not just say he is of similar level but younger?

Hantony????
 The h is silent.

Yup. It actually will possibly increase our fan base slightly to have three 5 star skillers in the squad. Rashford, Sancho and now Antony. Hopefully Ten Hag can develop Martial into a 5 star weak foot striker too.

Just think of the tic tacs and youtubes that the yoots will be sharing with Antony and his mad skillz.

I'd say each fans feeling has more to do with mass-crowd-behavior, so you might look into Sigmunds cousin Edward Bernays who was the "inventor" of PR and studied and manipulated crowd-behavior

International clubs completly exploit english clubs, knowing they pay every amount in this world for the players they want to have. Does no one care about that ?

Totally alright with the fee so long as he’s a success (I think he will be) as he’ll either be our right winger for 10 yrs OR we’ll sell him for an astronomical amount to Real or Barcelona in 4-5 yrs
