Its different. Players don't come to United on the basis of being a stepping stone club. Antony picked Ajax on the basis of leaving in 2 years when a fair bid from a big club came in. They're literally about to do a rebuild. Of course their stars don't want to be there.
I think Cristiano Ronaldo (at least in '09) is of a different opinion. Tbf, if Antony proves to be a world beater in the next few season and Real/Barca come knocking, I wouldn't be surprised if he did the same to us.

Sod the price. The money either lines the Glazers’ pockets or goes towards players.

We need a left footed right winger and this lad is champing at the bit to play for us. Good news.

Dembele would cost a lot. Memphis is the cheap option to bring in for CF depth. I'd be happy with that.

Hopefully we get this deal wrapped up so he can be a bench option for Leicester and be ready as a possible starter for Arsenal.
Moussa dembele at Lyon wouldn't. He's in his last year of his contract and isn't resigning.

it was reported at the time by the same people (Romano etc) who are now saying the deal is done for €100m. Now you can choose to believe some things they report and dismiss other things, in order to defend the club and the decision makers all you want, that's your choice. But the optics are not great.
Just because you dont take everything you read as truth doesn't mean you support the decision makers or think its a good deal. Its like if I choose to not believe flat earthers then I love all governments because they are lying to us. Well no. Its possible governments are arseholes and flat earth is nonsense. Fan channels and gossip columns are not 100 percent true. Sure a small percent might be but the sooner you realize a large majority is made up or guesswork the happier your life will be. At the very least dont go spreading around nonsense everywhere as fact.

Thought he would be around €25m

I think we need to prepare ourselves mentally for a player that isn’t worth the price we’ve paid but he’s a player we need late in the window and it’s someone who the manager trusts to come straight into his system and make a difference.

If he does that well, then it could mean the team is doing well also.

Ronaldo left with everyone being pretty understanding though. We didn't want him to go, but when they offered the world record bid, we said "fair enough, off you go". He won everything he could at United. Antony won all he could at Ajax too.

Or just not worry and enjoy signing a young and extremely talented player?

He's so pissed I love it.

Also so many people on here are gonna hate Antony  Wait til he does his spin thing and loses the ball, people will be fuming. All good though the potential is huge.

People will cry about the price

But Antony and Sancho on opposite flanks is exciting stuff

Both 22 and born just a month apart too

Missing the point though? Paying over the odds like this means the money will be lining the Glazers’ pockets in the future when we miss out on future talent because clubs are asking for insane money, because look what we paid for Anthony.

Also puts massive pressure on the player to immediately perform when he should be given time and patience given he’s a relative unknown from the Dutch league who will need to adjust to PL football.

We can’t sod the price. It’s an issue and has repeatedly been a problem in the past.

I’m still struggling with why the price is such a big deal here in comparison to what other clubs have spent this season and previously?

Nunez €100m, Fofana €89m, Cucerella €75m.. all same kind of age.

Consider we are late in the window and the premium you pay for a forward I’m not sure why there’s such a song and dance for United paying what is basically market value

OH now he doesn't want to talk about Antony. Couple of days ago he was happily taking all the questions related to Antony and not talking a single bit about their CL draw. He sounds so bitter now.

Nah I think we are so used to seeing our players lose the ball, we'd be surprised if he doesn't. But when he pulls it off? OT will be off there seats

Cheers!

Transfer fees fluctuate every summer. Us paying a big fee for Antony won’t make any difference to future targets, no more than it did when we spent big on Maguire.

The bigger issue for us would be failing to bring in a player who may be important for us in a position of need. Ten Hag needs to win football matches, and if he does, the financials will take care of themselves.

This guy's nickname should be Isaac "Hank" Schreuder

I was thinking that. Hank's a likeable guy though. At the end at least.

Can we give Antony 7? Just for the lols of seeing how Ronaldo would react.

I think it was here where I read that Ajax don't actually make a great deal of money from this potential transfer, is that right ?

Absolutely crazy fee, I didn't think we'd go that far. After years we've finally got a right winger again though. Let's just hope he's even half as good as the fee suggests.

Must watch.

Slightly nervous that we don't have the right strikers to make the best use of this signing.

Everything behind and around the striker is looking better. But, I'm still looking at this side and am wondering where the goals are going to come from.

Next signing needs to be somebody to play up top.

Ah, he's bound to be frustrated. He's just new in post and he's lost his best players. It's a no-brainer for Ajax from a business point of view, though (thank you Susan).

If he wants to work in football just for the love of the game, he needs to go to a minor Dutch side who don't get their players poached by big English clubs. But then, he'd get hardly any salary in that scenario. It is what it is, he has to get over it.

I don't give a shit about fan channels and gossip columns. I only follow a few select journalists like Stone, Ornstein, Whitwell and Romano, that's it. Now I personally hate Romano for a lot of different reasons, but I concede he's a decent source to stay up to date. If those people in June/July say Ajax want €80m, I, as a fan, have no reason to doubt them. That's it. How you have managed to drag Goldbridge, flat earthers, governments and what not into this, I don't know.

Not a midfield controller then?
