Feel bad for Ajax here, and less than impressed with Antony the way he dealt with this

If he doesn’t make a noise they don’t sell, simple. He is doing what he has to do.

He does look terribly one footed based on videos i've seen, seems like the opposite of Valencia who refused to cross with his left foot... He refuses to cross with his right and needs to cut inside/back to put in a cross.

Indeed. Antony can't be slated for wanting to move to the PL. This is Ajax's business model, after all, buying players low and selling them high.

He's exactly the player we need but that price tag is quite high given that he has only played 2 seasons in the Eredivisie

That’s exactly what I noticed too. Not sure he’ll ever live up to the price tag. Seems to have fight though so maybe that’ll make up for any technical deficiencies.

It is likely Sancho and Antony will on average be starting 2 games out of 3 each, with Sancho on various flanks. Rashford to be a first sub and sometimes starter on the left
Don’t quite see that. Rashford is a crucial player for us to stretch the game with running in behind, especially if Ronaldo doesn’t start. Just because we never paid a transfer fee for Rashford, doesn’t mean he isn’t a key player within our squad who wouldn’t have been worthy of one. Regardless any team without Ronaldo or Rashford isn’t going to offer much threat in behind or stretch the opposition’s backline.

It’s a mental fee for Antony because he has his work cut out to even get in the team most weeks. Can you play Sancho-Rashford-Antony together? Yeah, but I’m not sure it is any better than Rashford-Martial-Sancho. The only way the four of them start is if you drop Bruno.

I know we hope to play 60 games this season, so I can only assume ETH really wants to manage everyone’s minutes so the team can have energy levels every weekend and midweek throughout the season, along with real, genuine competition for places.

Anyone think we’ll get him before Friday? Will he need a visa like Casemiro? It’s possible that even if he signs before Friday he won’t make the squad for Southampton.

wtf has happened to redcafe?

We've got people saying they're unhappy that a player is trying to force a move to us, especially when the club is being MORE THAN rewarded. Would you rather he just sat there and said.... meh don't care?

Get yourselves together ffs.

Welcome Antony

Technical deficiencies??? He’s one of the most technical players you’ll find

Maybe, yeah but I’m also secretly and discreetly impressed with Antony’s intent to come here and reunite with Ten Hag.
Thats all fine when we are on the beneficial side but there's nothing to say he wont do this for another club.

Hes not just making a noise. Hes gone on strike.

Why not? We play eredivisie, we know our place. Inevitable players leave and if they leave not when we originally planned but then end up selling over marketvalue and we have a replacement it is all fine.

I love watching the PL and will follow United with great interest and hope you do well. (But won't cry myself to sleep if you don't).

Will be very happy when the transferwindow is over though. Downside of transfers like this is it exposes a lot of toxic "fans", who constant need the confirmation that United is such a big club, especially on Twitter.

If we get near 100m for him and replace him with Ziyech it will be seen here as a magnificent transfer window. We all expected to have a transition year losing so many players but it looks like we actually might be competitive this year.
I suppose United will have taken a big chunk out of you guys this year.

It would be great if you can still have a competitive year after losing your manager and multiple big players.

still don't know how to feel about this. The fee is madness, and they way Antony has handled this also leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. Feel a bit sorry for Ajax too.

Why not? Visa?

Visa and United`s negotiating team.

It’s hard to not watch the goals and assists clips for this guy and not think ronaldo will get 10-15 tap ins alone just from that wing. He puts it on a plate!

T’is true. You’re right. Still, I’ll try and enjoy the guy in the meantime. Seems like he’ll run through walls for ETH.
Yeah, me too. Hope he is richarlson esque as a minimum.

I have mixed feelings too. I want the guy but 90 mil is just ridiculous.
But why to feel sorry for Ajax? They will sell player who is valued 35 mil for 90-100 mil. Player who so far didn't show that he is anywhere near that price tag.
On top of that, Ajax will get Ziyech for peanuts who is proven winger.

Why not? Visa?
Possibly that too but no i said it because this isn’t like Casemiro who’s a proven class player in a position of massive need who can literally start after 1 training session. Antony will need time to bed in before he plays + we have good options in his position. So he won’t be rushed into the team within 3 days of signing IMO.

De Jong not being too chuffed about the prospect of joining us, redcafe is mad. Antony using all the tools at his disposal to make this happen, we are still mad.

So was Robben, so is Di Maria, so is Camavinga, Messi also strongly prefers his left.

I know it's not our money etc but that is an absolutely ludicrous fee for an attacking player who has never even reached double figures for goals or assists in a very poor league. Ajax have us over a barrel but even they must be amazed how much we are seemingly willing to pay. That being said, if EtH thinks Antony is "the one", I hope we get him.

I have been thinking that with all the Ajax linked players this summer, we are being completely fleeced. But the way he has acted I have no problem with. I look at a couple of their forums and they all wanted to sell Martinez for the fee they got and they all want to sell Antony for the rumoured price. If Ajax don't accept such an incredible offer he can justly feel pissed off.

With regards to the player, he is obviously very talented and might turn into a world class player here. We do need someone on the right and a left footer is infinitely preferable given we only have right footed attackers. We'd do well to pair him up with a capable right back though.

I wonder how Ajax will proceed with a pot of gold following their sales this summer. I assume Sao Paulo have a % sell-on fee. Maybe Ajax are in a position to pay a few millions more for their South American recruits in order to avoid sell-ons.

They've bought Bergwijn 31m, Bassey 23m, Brobbey 16m, Wijndal 10m, Kaplan 9.5m, Conceicao 5m, Sanchez 5m - 100m euros all in all. And they've sold Martinez 57m, Haller 31m, Gravenberch 18.5m, Schuurs 9m, Tagliafico 4m - 120m euros in, + the likely 100m for Antony.

So looks like they'll be up 120m after spending 100m still.

Mitten has mentioned before that United lack the ability of the “dark arts” when it comes to securing transfers. There is nothing unusual about this. Players go on strike, hand in requests and are encouraged to do so by the buying club through intermediaries. I’m certain Sir Alex tapped up a few players in his heyday and the player and agent were happy to hear from him. I don’t feel bad for Ajax at all, they’re about to make £120 million + off of United this summer. They’ll reinvest and develop more great players. That’s their model and they should be proud of it.
