If I'm United board, I'm not going above the 80m euro offer. I would rather offer alternative incentive like offering a player on loan to Ajax (let's say Amad Diallo, maybe VDB?). I want Antony here badly but we shouldn't overpay by this much for a player (80m already is overpay), and cause an effect in the market, where we're getting screwed in later deals (as more teams try to extort)
When are either of those clubs ever in these situations?

Mad money, especially given the likes of Donny, Depay and Bergwijn and how they flopped in the PL. Bergwijn going back and immediately looking a level above the Dutch league despite being poor at Spurs should be causing caution over this type of move.
Ziyech heading back to Ajax by the looks of things as well and I would guess Ajax fans would confirm that Ziyech was better for them than Antony has been.

Exactly. Even 80m euros is crazy money. Move on and find a player for reasonable money. Our budget should stretch to a few more starter if he didn’t waste so much money.

Top 10 may have been OTT tbf but we've got championship clubs with bigger budgets than bottom half Erdivise teams. Norwich City for example.

But crying over spilt milk just leaves a stink; we're trying to clear up a mess made by years and years of mismanagement and have no leg to stand on given absolutely every club we negotiate with knows our predicament and can manoeuvre us as they please. It's the end of the window now; most clubs are just putting the icing on their window not desperately scrambling around for a multitude of 1st team starters. Fans don't seem to understand - or don't want to - that we're the ones enquiring and that ultimately it's our loss because clubs won't sell unless it's worth their while for the inconvenience and disruption.
€100m is actually €80m + €20m in met clauses, isn't it? €80m is £67m or so - it's a lot of money, but not out there given the rates we've seen throughout this whole window. Ajax set the price months ago; we baulked, they shrugged and then there was an impasse before we came back again, agitated and willing to then meet the original valuation... late, and for that, incurred costs, as you do when you're the loser in a game of financial chicken.
Raphina was tapped up and sounded out and was leaving the league; buys into the PL come with 'your league has money to burn' tax when it comes to us. That can't be omitted from the equation otherwise the person simply isn't being realistic.
Equivalent talent going to come in any cheaper, at this time in the window? If so, whom? As time ticks down, prices will be going up; if we were going to get good/fair prices for players, it would've been two months ago, not now. Even then, Ajax had zero intention of selling for less than €80m - they have been steadfast.

Fact is the ONLY thing that matters is does the manager see him as the perfect signing for his style. What other clubs do or do not desire is irrelevant. And given our situation, we have to pay over the odds to get this boss exactly what he wants if we desire to succeed with him. I'm pretty sure there are League 1, maybe even League 2 clubs that have bigger budgets than the smallest Eredivisie clubs. Bottom 5 in the Eredivisie have a budget of 7-10 million Euro's.
That doesn't say everything about the level of the league though. As has been pointed out, the Eredivisie is doing pretty well in Europe these days. Antony undeniably performed in the UCL as well. Still, I am not 100% convinced he will cut it in the Prem, although I will really enjoy watching and following him if he leaves. He is entertaining at the very minimum.
