This deal will be done imo. The 100 mil Goldbridge reported is absolute bs. I can see this being done for 63 million pounds.
You guys need to bring in Overmars next year after he had a year at Antwerp. Guy is amazing at his job and deserves a proper 2nd chance.

Yeah, will be interesting to see how Overmars gets on over the next few years. For him to ever come to United, EtH will have to play a big part.

They are still really close friends. I can see this happening. It would be so good to finally have someone in charge of transfers that’s capeable.
The work he has done at Antwerp this far is very impressive (again).

We aren’t employing a sex offender. We would be the last club to take him on

He's not happening and at that price it's ridiculous. Even the 70m asking price was ridiculous but I could see us reaching to that. 100m, nah, move on. Please don't pay that.

Curious, and this is purely hypothetical: What would you guys think of including Ronaldo in any deal? Ronaldo gets his CL football that way, and we get a long term player. I mean, I don't think Ajax would care for it at all, and I'm not sure Ronaldo would enjoy the notably lower wages, but if he's that serious about getting CL football it seems like a potential way to get it, since Athletic and Bayern have both publicly dismissed the idea of Ronaldo joining them.

If people think Ajax are bluffing a reminder they asked €50m for Martinez which we paid only to switch goal posts and sell for more. We're not getting Antony for a reasonable price

Ajax never asked for more. Always asked for 50 to 60m upfront. That didn't change. But you are right, Ajax isn't bluffing and has no reason to. Ajax is a rich club with no intention to sell, so they can bluff all they want.

Can't blame Ajax for wanting to keep their prize asset. They've been butchered this summer.

Let's come back next summer, he's hardly a priority.
A new attacker absolutely is a priority and you're nuts if you think otherwise. Rashford and Martial can't be relied upon to maintain fitness and consistency throughout the season and they don't have enough goals in them.

Come back to planet Earth.

so why didn't he give a shit while on loan last season? He's had one good(ish) season for us, that's it
Don’t know mate. Personal problems, depression, just immature perhaps.
Just saying that if he's finally found the form we all were waiting for then it's great for us and fecking good timing.

Don't know if we'll bring in Overmars due to the sex scandal, but I do think at some point ETH will realise that Murtough isn't very good at his job and will demand that a proper recruitment guru be brought in.

Love posts like this...pure magic.

"proper recruitment guru"

Literally 6 months ago he got fired for sexual harassment. Not even 6 years, 6 months. Unbelievable.

Think this is pretty much guaranteed to fail with the fees being reported. Antony will never be able to live up to the expectations put on him by the media and other fans. Too much pressure for even the most talented youngsters to handle. Expecting this will be completed nonetheless, probably for around £65-70m

We have plenty of areas to address; forward, right back, left wing, but none are as important as the middle of the park and we don't have unlimited funds.

Send a couple of pics, that’s about it. Yea its bad but should he be punished forever?
After a year at Antwerp I think it will be fine to get him on board again.

So I know nothing about this player and haven't really followed the saga. Is he worth the trouble/money? I feel like winger is not really an area of high priority for us at the moment. Surely a striker is more urgent?

Sending a few pics is stupidly underselling it and actions do have consequences.

100m is stupid.
He is second behind Rafinha who went for half that money, they are being silly and ridiculous.

That is partly true, but it is like that because.... Ajax doesn’t wánt to sell. So the price is stupid and only the stupid will pay it.

How do you conclude this thoufh? The €100m pricetag, which is £80-85m, was given by Mike Verweij, who's been very reliable regarding Ajax. When he said Ajax wanted €50-60m and at least 50m guaranteed for Martinez, I thought it was a little bit high. In the end the price turned out to be €57+10m.

It is quite clear that Ajax don't want to sell and Ajax have also experienced that getting players in also takes crazy fees nowadays. This will only get worse closer to the deadline. Therefor Ajax raising the price makes sense and Ajax have also done so in Martinez' case.

Not saying Ajax will definitely stick to that €100m pricetag, but I don't see Ajax selling £63/€75m anymore. I do genuinely think it's going to require around €80m + bonusses now.

Therefore at this point I do think Antony will stay. I don't see how this pricetag will be met. United will be in some kind of panic mode to keep pushing for this.

Sending a couple of dickpics plus dozens of women that had to go to the press to complain about an insecure working environment because Ajax wanted to muzzle them. I don't know what the ethics are in the Netherlands regarding unacceptable behaviour, but I hope United holds a higher standard here than Ajax. The fact that he could already walk into his new job after less than 2 months is baffling to me.

No it's not. What Overmars did was stupid and very unprofessional. However, Ajax completely overreacted in firing him. That was all down to a big scandal surrounding sexual herrassment at the The Voice of Holland show, which got huge media attention the weeks before. If the world wouldn't be in a woke-mob stranglehold he wouldn't have been fired.

We are now 6 months later and nothing came out that warrants him being fired. He was just a stupid man, that should have been suspended from work pending investigation. If no criminal investigations are opened, which hasn't been the case, he should have been back to work back at Ajax. As an Ajax fan I hope to see him back at Ajax in the future. He could start tomorrow for me.

Actions have consequences is one of the biggest knockdown arguements I've heard. You don't stick someone in jail for walking through a red light.

Sorry, but what an absolute load of bullocks. I happened to have read the article in the NRC, and women spoke about a culture of harassment and intimidation for years and the club did absolutely nothing. Not something you can dismiss as 'no criminal investigations are opened'. I sincerely hope United holds a higher standard in who can work for us than whether or not they have been prosecuted in court for sexual harassment. Overmars seems like the type of bloke you want to keep far away from any board room if you want a normal club culture.

I see this one being put off til next summer now. Which I would be okay with if we picked up Sesko this summer, and back for Antony next summer.

Possibly but reckon it will be a lot more difficult. If he has another very good season at Ajax and also does well with Brazil at the World Cup this winter, then even more clubs will show an interest in signing him.

Are you dutch, do you know if they were sent as (and received as) a joke? Or did it make the women feel uncomfortable? Context is huge here

Hopefully if it doesn't happen this summer Ten Hag can maintain that relationship because you are right. In that video Ajax put out thanking Ten Hag, Antony's message was, anytime you need me, i'm there.

I do think we will sell him mate. We need to make a good net profit as weve spent a shitload and I think Antony is actively pushing for the transfer behind the scenes. Plus with Conceiçao we have a good new RW.

We will be in a transition year anyhow.

Who are the realistic alternatives? There's Ziyech, Pulisic, Asensio, Chukwueze, Olise. RW market is pretty average right now

However you very much do fire someone for sending unsolicited sexually explicit texts to his subordinates. That's not being woke, that's being professional. Sending sexual texts isn't a criminal offence for the most part, but pretty much every company in the world would fire someone for that.
