So what if Antony is a Cnut? We need Cnuts in the team. Keep'em coming I say

I'm sorry, how can anyone look at the video and say he's an explosive dribbler? Most of the dribbles that run at the defender in the video are slow and he ends up losing the ball?

Look at a video of Dembele dribbling, Neymar, Mane, that's what I mean by explosiveness.

The best thing about that video is his passing and his work rate. I mean it's not a super controversial opinion - take Coutinho for example, a good close control dribbler, good pass and shot. But the one thing he really lacks compared to Neymar is the dribbling speed and that showed at Barca. Give both the ball at a standing start and Neymar can breeze past people if he wants. It's one of the things that separates the very good and the elite.

This is what you said "The problem I have with him is that when you watch him, you can tell he isn't explosive. He's a good dribbler but he doesn't have strong acceleration"

You've just added the 'explosive dribbling' to the perceived faults you find in the player. Before it was just him lacking explosiveness.

And the reason I posted the comparison with Luis Diaz was due to yourself rating Diaz very highly, where in one thread you said Liverpool would've won the league if they had Diaz earlier in the season. You also rate Grealish very highly and he's possibly worse than Antony when it comes to acceleration.

Antony is a 22 year old player that I believe will potentially get even better. And his acceleration over the first few yards is absolutely fine to me. And what we really should look at is the total package he potentially brings to a team. And that to me is his touch and technique along with his ability to link up with his team mates at a good level. You've completely overlooked those attributes.

The likes of Ousmane Dembele, Neymar, Mane etc who you mention are technically good players in the build up phase and the acceleration they possess, enhances the most important attribute, which is their ability on the ball when it comes down to first touch and ball control. And I'd still take arguably the less explosive Frank Ribery over all three players if he was still in his peak.

From what little I've seen of Antony, I think this appraisal seems very much on the money. I'd just like to add that another thing I feel Antony contributes to a side, which may seem trivial but from what I can tell is a really important facet of Ten Hag's brand of football, is the ability to stretch the play. In the matches I've watched, Antony shows a tendency to receive the ball near the touchline. Since defenders will often then be drawn to him, which creates space for an under-lapping run. (This was a common theme between Antony and Noussair Mazraoui) This creates a number of attacking options to be exploited, depending on the body position of the defender, as Antony can either drive in-field with the ball and look to create a shooting opportunity himself, or look to play a pass to the under-lapping player (probably the right-back) which can lead to a cross from a dangerous position.

I get the feeling something happened in a match against Feyenoord
That too, but no it's just something about him that irks me. Same reason I dislike Suarez, which is also not his past at Ajax :wenger:

That time wasting clip wasnt really on him though, it's Tadic who knocked him over and told him to stay down. He shouldve been booked instead of Antony send off.

I violently dislike Antony, like, really feck him, but he's lightning fast and also explosive.

He's a cheating cnut, inconsistent and lacks end product, but quickness and explosiveness he has.

Did I mention he's a cnut though?

Fair enough

Explosive dribbling / explosiveness = the same thing.

I don't rate Diaz highly, I rate him a lot less than I do Mane. I do think Liverpool could've won the league with him - because he's a depth option for the front 3 that they badly lacked. They played Mane, Salah and Jota almost every game while Firmino was out, whilst City had the luxury of rotating between the CL and PL. And you have to remember Diaz cost £37m, not £65m. £40m for Antony I think is fair value.

I haven't overlooked his touch, close control, passing or shooting. I've said that they're good. I just would like a more explosive wide player, we haven't had one in a while and I worry with Sancho and Antony we'll be a bit too predictable.

That's fair enough, but I would say the potential for the team to be unpredictable in attack is going to be even higher now due to ten Hag's approach to the game where he will want us to commit players in attack, which will open up the potential for multiple attacking weapons from the fullbacks, wide forwards, forwards and even the midfielders to contribute.

From what I've seen, he lacks a bit of end product. He has a great close control, dribbling and link-up play, very good acceleration and explosiveness, he also seems like a fighter. Maybe I'm wrong - I haven't watched him more that a couple games + a few compilations, so he might be actually be a very productive player, but I haven't seen that. If my observations are correct I would say he is not worth 65M - that price assumes he will become productive in the future, but for what we know he might just be a less likable, but more flashy Dan James. Basically if Dan James had better close control and dribbling, he would've still failed because of his lack of end product.

Don't think Ajax will let another player go tbh. Have there been any recent links from the Dutch press ? I know there were some reports of his agent in Manchester yesterday but they could be working on a future transfer.

This makes little sense. You're telling me we publicly announced Ten Hag back in April (it means we had been talking to him many months before that) and he never intimated us the players he wanna take with him? And somehow, Ten Hag woke up one day a few weeks ago and suddenly realized he needs Antony? That sounds ridiculous. No, when you're looking at a manager, you must also look at the players he presently manages. And the first question you should ask said manager is, okay which players you wanna bring with you. This transfer should have been planned out many months ago, not now.
Okay. You know best.

That was probably the most horrendace moment of the whole season! Whát a disgracefull moment was that!! Unbelievable. But also Tadic and Antony up front immitating Neymar at his best... So much quality in both of them and then such a dreadfull act... Hope never to see such acting again at Ajax. Let Getaffe perform there infantile acts and Ajax show their quality.

He literally plays the entire time with his head up, and he's 22 I think he needs to add some muscle but he would be a beast for United, sign him up.

Watched back some CL games last year with him playing Dortmund a hattrick of assists, if Ronaldo does go and United get Antony I wouldn't really mind.

United do need a forward and a RB arguably though. Antony I think is one of the players that would get the fans on their seat.

Sancho and Antony both aged 22, frightening.

I think FDJ and Antony at this point would be a very good transfer window, just if Ronaldo does go does United go into the market for another striker how much are United willing to spend this summer?

Just get him, he has the speed, technique, pressing ability, knows they way ETH wants his wide attacker to press and which areas of the pitch to cover when defending and more then anything, we can FINALLY have proper RW and let Sancho play on his best position which is LW where he can cut in the pitch and let him take some steps in to the middle of the pitch when we have guys like Shaw and now specially Malacia that will sprint down the flank and stretch the opponents defense. Antony with Dalot/AWB (even though that i would sell AWB for 30m to a team like Newcastle and buy Mukiele who is still available for 10-12m) on the right side and Sancho with Shaw/Malacia. Also a reason why i keep nagging about us playing Martinez as a CDM and get Pau Torres to partner Varane. So when we attack with Dalot for example, Varane takes some steps out right, Pau Torres taking his RCB position and Martinez covering up fin the defense and let Bruno/Eriksen follow up all the way and have hopefully FDJ somewhere between the attackers and defense so we can always pass back the ball to him and he should be like a quaterback and start a new attack (left, middle or on the right side). Same thing if we attack with Malacia/Shaw, Martinez Drops down to cover up for the FB, Torres taking some steps to left, Varane follows and Dalot takes some steps up the field to be available for FDJ to fast switch side and pass him the balla and defense rotation starts over.

Again, my English is not the best but i hope someone understands what i mean :)

I don't think there's a chance Ajax let's him go for anything other than stupid money that we shouldn't spend. Wait til next year if we want him. We need something of course but no need to spend stupidly.

Exactly. Pace is a good thing but under Ten Hag defences will be pinned back and there will be less space. Touch, technique and ability to make combinations are going to be more useful to United. Antony looks fast enough in smaller spaces.

No, no news other then that Ajax wants to start with the current squad, maybe extended by a RCB and LCB if there is a nice catch on the market, but that’s about it.No players are expected to leave, even if there is a transfer whish.
The front is nicely packed with quality wit Tadic, Bergwijn, Brobbey, Berghuis, Antony and maybe even Conceicao. ihattaran if fit,
Midfield looks pretty solid too with Kudus finally fully recovered and making a very decent impression. Taylor the new talented kid on the block on AM, Klaasen, Alvarez, Blind maybe bits and pieces of Fitz-Jim and Univar already, but those last take their first steps in the first squad. In the back with Wijndal, Bassey, Timber we’re quite solid, though limited in backup. Schuurs and Rensch do not feel too solid yet and Regeer is another youngster (like Unuvar and Fitz-Jim) on the RCB position. So there we’re looking for some extra power probably. Especially while Nico made his well deserved transfer.
I say “good to go!” instead of “here we go”.

I cannot think of a better young left footed winger to add to the squad.

This is the type of signing Liverpool would make… seems to good for us to sign him. Hope we do though… desperately need to add him to our team, not only for depth but for quality!

We need a new dose of flair and swagger provided by Antony.

Elanga, Amad and pellistri all fail to provide it.

This is the type of signing we used to make back in the day.

That remains to be seen.
No it's not. Ajax have been very clear what the price is. Like with Martinez they won't lower. So the post i quoted had a tweet saying United won't pay the asking price, so it's settled if true.

Well it obviously is.

Is there seriously no other option?
I don't trust attackers from Dutch league. The quoted price tag is also crazy.
