Jury's out on that one I think.
I agree
If that's the case, then only very few players in the last couple of years can be rated as world class.
thats how it is supposed to be. FDJ does not shine enough for me and is a bit hit and miss. Since 2019 season what are his highlights? Casemiro is world class for example.

He currently isnt world class that’s for sure. We definitely overpaid for him but we did cut Ajax throat for Martinez so we probably paid a fair price for both of them to Ajax.

would be good if he turns out World class but not necessary. We just need him to more functional. Other than PSG I cannot think of any other club that has 3 indisputable world class forwards.

Relax. He will come good. 1st season has been a adapting period for many players. Casemiro is just at his prime, he doesn't need to adapt.

Antony is interesting and I truly like his Robben-like style. He is as an RW as RW can be and he'll become a double digit assist and goal scorer. Relax everybody.

you are correct. City do not even have 2 world class forwards imo. Prime Liverpool had 1.5

I just love the way he controls the ball and looks to start attack for us, he's a threat and he makes us a more balance team when he's playing.

Come on Antony make all this doubters eat their words.

He really needs to start going down the line a little more, even if it's just to make the defender 2nd guess what he is going to do.

Right now he is cutting onto his left pretty much every situation, but he's shown he actually has a decent right foot when he does shoot with it.

I think he's one that will improve a lot in his 2nd season. He still seems quite nervous when playing, probably trying too hard to prove himself.

His work rate though is very special. Defensively and offensively never stops running and hassling.

De Jong has barely been a starter in a weak Barcelona team since he arrived, how is he supposed to be world class? I love the style of player he is and really think he could be world class, but he isn't at the moment.

Yup, and it doesn't make PSG a better team. I'd rather have a functionnal front 3 rather than 3 supremely talented players that don't fit together well and make the team unbalanced.

The only similarities between Robben and Antony is the fact that they are both left footed and never use their right foot. It stops there.

Think he was their player pf the year in his second season at Barca. I agree he's been hit and miss there however, though that's also because Im quite sure they confuse him with Donny vd Beek at times having him make runs into the box.

True, he was good this season after december even if he totally collapsed (like the rest of the team) in the CL against PSG at camp nou.

There's no doubting he has serious talent. But he seems a bit hesitant to take his man on at the moment. He's up against a higher level of fullback than he has been at Ajax so I think he's going to need time to adapt. I also think it'll help him to have the more attacking Dalot back in the team making space for him. Also the team is still a work-in-progress. I think in a fully functioning Ten Hag team there'll be lots of movement around him, making it easier for him to dribble.

So what are you saying. He faked the injury? Do you really think ETH would let something like that?
I think the initial injury was real, but I think he milked it so instead of coming back for our last game or two and risking injury he had a clear path to the world cup.

Nice ad hominem attack, but why don't you use logic to try and debate what I said instead, or are you not capable of critical thought?

And in the meantime??? We just wait and hope? He retains his position? On current form?

No way. This isn't a youth academy. He needs to step up.

That's what it might very well be. If you watch from 16 seconds onwards he pops some dudes nicely and does some outrageous skills in beating his man, so it is clearly his natural game (contrary to what some claim) he's just not confident in doing it against higher level fullbacks yet. at 1:36 he even does "el elastico" and then attempts a cross on his right foot. Maybe we don't quite appreciate how much of a giant step it is moving to a club like Man Utd in the premier league and the massive expectation of having to perform in front of so many expectant fans, at a higher standard as well as the added media pressure.

So in other words he conned club doctors and ETH?
Let's say you work a mon - fri job and have a 2 week vacation coming up next week, and on the wednesday before you wake up sick, you call into work. Thursday morning you're feeling similar, and call in again. Friday you get up and you feel much better, but you've been sick the last couple days and everyone knows it, do you go back to work that friday, because you know you can go in and do your job, or do you just dial in again, because why would you go back for one shift, instead of just staying off till the end of your vacation, at which point no ones really going to remember or question how sick you were that friday?

Footballers are people, football is a job. Maybe you wouldn't be the person above, but I know a lot of those people and I guarantee you there are footballers who are those people.

I'm done with this conversation, I'm a huge fan of Antony, probably was before you ever heard of him. I am over what happened, but I am smart enough to realize what happened.

He's not doing anything to shed his tag of an £80m fidget spinner.

EtH knows more than us but for the life of me I can't figure out why he was so keen on signing him. I see more talent in Michael Olise and he was a fraction of the price.

He’s a really weird player. He plays so… unconventionally? He’s so agile and nimble, but he’s constantly slipping and his balance is iffy. He’s fast, but he’s not massively explosive. He’s quite clearly got a repertoire of skills but he doesn’t seem to want to isolate defenders 1v1.

Confuses me because there’s a lot to like about him, but then also you’re a bit like, will he end up being worth what we paid?

He's frustrating, because you can clearly see he's gifted with the ball at his feet and had some really nice dribbles in the second half. But the in the first half he was so predictable that even his pass backs were getting cut out. ETH is going to have to insist on him getting more comfortable with his right or watch some Di Maria tape because he's not Robben, that cut inside can't be his only move.

If he sped up his game by 20% he would be excellent. Now he is a frustrating one-footed pointless dribbler.

Did well for the goal but lets be honest.... Demarai Gray was better tonight, and he cost like 1.5m

He's looking very limited. Very little so far to see why we were willing to pay so much.

This is my view as well. Absolutely ETH knows stuff we don’t but I just don’t see it. The most expensive signing of the entire squad and the second most expensive in United’s history. I just don’t see how that is justified.
I really hope I am wrong about him.

Pleased he got a goal. Still a bit erratic at times but there are glimpses of real quality. I'm hoping we can get near 10 goals for him for the season and something like the level of his early performances.

£80 million, one -footed, blah, blah.

There is merit to some of the concerns regarding Antony. He is one-footed, he does make the odd poor decision in the final third. But what he is, is a presence. His role in this team is massive. That right hand side is stretched as far as humanly possible and Dalot is getting a shitload of space.

I like Antony. He gets stuck in, tracks back, maintains shape, and is chipping in with numbers.

Like Nani, he’ll be like a litmus test for the resident halfwit.

I feel like this kind of winger is rated more highly in the Netherlands. He keeps the ball very very well, he's clever, creative and determined. Yes his play would improve from going over his right side a bit more and he's doing a bit too much Ajax and too little Manchester United. But there's plenty of potential. Van de Sar wasn't the only one who thought Antony could become world class, he really was that bright a spark for Ajax.

Took a long time to get going today but 2nd half he was good, seems to be a bit of a theme with him at the moment

Hopefully just need games
