Still early days, but for the money we paid for him you would expect him to show more than he has.
His final ball was pretty awful but his work rate and discipline in helping his fullback was impressive.
People writing him off after a few games in a new league are tools
You still need to bench players who play poorly, imo.Yes he would because the right hand side of our attack doesn't exist if he doesn't play. Which is what we saw in the games he was injured for.
He should switch wings and use his left foot to whip in crosses from the outside. That's his best chance of being effective in this team and this league. He's basically short one right now going forward because everyone and their mom knows where he's going and what he's going to do.
Hardly has a great deal of competition for his spot though. He needs to get his end product in order, but you can clearly see how much better we are with him out on the right.
Well he's non-existent on the right wing. Could do worse than switching him over and seeing if he has a better time of it there.I'm not sure that taking the only natural right winger we have, and sticking him on the left wing where we have about 4 players and playing like it's 1997 is quite the thing to do.
People just need to adjust their expectations with him, hes not going to bang in 20 goals a season, not for a while at least. What he is offering us at the moment is ball retention on that right side and switches of play to open up spaces elsewhere, and the driver on that side is the right back. With time and better understanding with his teammates, he should start racking up more assists, but dont expect him to burn people with pace and side foot it in.
So we're basically going to have to carry him in our attack.
It’s not about carrying, it’s about contributing to the team for the best result. One of our most persistent issues for years is being weak defensively against the press, very often from forwards losing the ball high up the pitch. Antony doesn’t lose the ball cheaply (well unless he fires a weak shot at their GK), and that helps sustaining the pressure. So we're basically going to have to carry him in our attack.
I would be amazed if a single player got anywhere close to him for touches in the final third today, for either side.So we're basically going to have to carry him in our attack.
Hardly has a great deal of competition for his spot though.
He's average and his competitors for the right wing spot are remarkably worse.
