Why? What is his transfer history like? I don't trust any manager really for signings. I feel they are incredibly limited, blinkered and have a small shortlist and simply revert to type. Klopp wanted that German winger Julian Brandt, yet Liverpool made him get Salah who turns out their best ever player. Klopp had a chance to get Mane when he was younger but thought he was a gangsta. He would have probably tried to sign all his Dortmund players given the chance. Trusting the manager has cost us too much money these years so I would prefer a better scouting team/committee or sporting director who does the transfers. Just my 2 pence. The basketball system has a head coach and then a general manager who does the signings. Seems to work.

When did people say this about Ronaldo? people exaggerate the Ronaldo criticism. At the end of his first season he shone at the Euros, making the team of the tournament as an 18 year old and scored 7 international goals in 16 apps in 2004. He improved every season. He would of won best young player at the world cup but they overruled him because of his behavior in 2006.

yep. Almost like being a flairy Brazilian automatically attracts attention

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, but I just don't get why clubs will double up on him in the PL.

The way I'd defend him is to give him a bit of space and try & show him onto his right as much as possible. Antony is the one who's going to have to develop some weapons like Salah and Robben did during careers to show why it's a poor idea to do that. Whether that's the ability to put a killer ball in, or rifle a deadly shot in.

I have the same issue with Sancho as well. I wouldn't feel intimidated if I was PL level full back in a 1v1 situation against either.

And yet they're always doubled up on. Go figure

depends what the expectation of £80 million is. It is a bit harsh as players dont set their transfer price so its the club that has heaped the pressure onto them same as Maguire. better to look at him as a £50 million player like Richarlison or something
When you buy an 80 mill player, one of the largest transfers ever for a young player, you expect one of the best young players in the world and for them to then develop into one of the best players in the world. Why do people think otherwise? Was Ten Haag and the scouts etc sat in a room saying 'I dont think he is 80 mill level. More 50 but lets just pay'. Or were they saying 'Its a lot of money but we believe he is one of the best in the world and will be a star and 80 mill will look cheap in a few years'. I would think and hope its the latter.
And when you get signed for top fees for a top club you take responsibility as well. Its not an excuse for you to be sht. Its for you to prove it like Ferdinand did. Like Rooney did. Like many others. If you cant then dont take the job. You will be judged based on your fee. Thats just a given. If you cant handle it then dont take the job. Same as Maguire. He cant just say 'Well Im playing as a 50 mill defender. Thats my level. Its not my fault you paid more.'

“I made a mistake,” said Klopp. “We met each other, we talked but by the end I didn’t feel it. I like the player, it was more of a feeling.

“His baseball cap was askew, the blond streak he still has today. He looked like a rapper just starting out. I thought, ‘I don’t have time for this’. I’d say I have a pretty good feeling for people, but was I wrong!

I was taking the piss at the idea that because he is Brazilian attacker he is automatically a Neymar/Ronaldinho

Cheers! Interesting and so seemingly unlike Klopp.

Why would you double up on a player who like you said won't be skinning full backs, or doesn't really have a massive goal scoring/assisting threat?

You double up on the players who really hurt you.

Because you're weary of the two-three times he's going to be capable of destructive output through the game, which he is. There are ways to attack a wingback that aren't 2 roulette turns and a nutmeg, and it helps that he has a fair bit of pace and can actually kick a ball well.

He embarrassed a fair few wingbacks in the Dutch league, I just don't think that's going to happen as often in the Prem - that's what I meant by the skinning bit. I do still think he'll be a threat to reckon with on the right.

Invisible until the goal - forgot he was even on until then. Great goal, though.

Hes got something about him

Far bigger issues in this squad. Those clamouring for to say ‘I told you so’ about his transfer can feck off.

He couldn't look any better considering how we didn't have any control at all.
He touched the ball once in the first half
We were unable to feed him..
Maybe we should have played Casemiro, Mct and fred?
We had no energy today

I can't be too harsh on him because unlike Sancho on the other side, he put effort though his passing seems pretty shite.

A tad better than Sancho for 30(?) more million. Not a bad deal if we forget that Sancho cost 70m.

Scored the goal of the match

I'm impressed with his ball manipulation and ability to open his body/find the angles.

A worry that both he and Sancho just don't have that running power to rinse past full backs but in the longer run, if ETH gets us to play football we want, Antony's skillset is much needed.

Look like another world class purchase by Manchester United under Glazers. Will lead them to titles :D:D

He didn't stop trying which you can't say for an embarrassment like Rashford.

He's a fighter and trickster who will get better through these rough patches. You can see the effort. The game was won and lost in midfield. Any surprise one of our most maligned players Mctominay and Bruno made it difficult to get any semblance of control. Fred and Casemiro come on and we are much better.

Encouraging from him. The thing with us is that we have gone for wingers who require all players to play well and in sync rather than devastating solo artists. If we can raise the level of the team he will get better and better.

I don't think he was suited to this game but that goal was brilliant.

Very quiet first halve but looked good second halve. Can’t fault him for effort. Sancho on the other hand was awful today.

He's got grit. Even if he doesn't end up a world beater I feel like I trust him to leave it all on the pitch. Can't say I feel the same about alot of our other players

Great goal and good work rate. After his goal he clearly had a bit more confidence.

Overall not a good performance but some positives to build on which can't be said for many others.

When we make the pitch bigger, we need to overload with runners to penetrate and these players can pick a pass. When we make the pitch smaller, these guys should be able to move well in tight spaces. Our midfield is still weak and doesn't provide good basis for keeping our shape. We lack the right players in midfield to compliment our two wingers, who actually has good potential and always works hard. We also have no striker to connect them, and only Bruno who is more of a wildcard than a playmaker.

Great goal but didn't really get involved until late on. Not surprising since we were never going to have a lot of the ball vs City

Besides Martial the only player who actually seemed to give a feck. He's going to be good, he has the skill and more importantly the determination.
