It was remarkable how much more willing he was to run his man in the second half. At Ajax, Antony was averaging 3/4 dribbles a game. We have not seen that at United until today. I pray to God it continues. It opened things up so much for us several times, not just for the assist Antony got. We need our inside forwards committing players.

He is clearing improving each game and I think he was told off for not using his right foot for the pass to Eriksen in the first half. In the second he has crossed with his right foot and also he beat his defender on the outside and passed it in with his right

Very good game. I predicted he'd get 10 this season and is only 2 away from that :D

Even Neville acknowledged the fact that he's rarely ever anonymous in games, and is always involved one way or the other.

He needs to make more of those reverse passes. There's good disguise on them - he slipped Fernandes through in the first minute as well for Sancho's chance

People that are expecting similar output from him like they do with an inside forward are going to be disappointed, because that will never happen. It's not easy to see now because we don't have a proper striker, but Antony hugging the touchline while also being a threat is going to give us a lot more goals next season when we get an actual striker because it will allow much more space for the striker (and Bruno and Eriksen to pass into)

Goal and assist is a respectable contribution, and in general he was very active. Good game all in all

Tap in merchant

Scored and got an assist but didn't even played that 'well' for me as he had the ball a lot and wasn't consistent enough with it. For me that's promising though and just shows he's got some very good fundamentals.

Against an easy open opposition but we need players who can do that.
Exactly. He's been consistently decent to good against those low quality opponents and that is very important for us.

It will have to if he’s going to be part of a side that becomes an elite team competing for PL & CL trophies. Today was a step in the right direction.

He’s been improving a lot in the last few games , today was one of his best in a Utd jersey

Varane???

Also I'm really liking how Wan Bissaka is playing right now. I think between him and Dalot right back shouldn't be a huge priority

Varane seems to be perma injured, retired from international football, not sure what's going on with him. I think we'll have a Ledley King type situation on our hands, clearly has to be managed.

I agree re: RB - but gulf in attacking quality between guys like James, TAA, Walker etc. A lot of attacking threat these days comes from fullbacks overlapping / underlapping. It seems like tactically, they're the only ones with any space / time. Rest get closed down extremely quickly.

I've been saying it all season, of course he can be frustrating as all wingers can be.

But I think he's really good, he's brave and he's always a goal threat. He's been dead unlucky hitting the woodwork or he'd have even more goals.

He was great today, I like him. I think he'll be a top player.

Goddamn this is cold

There's probably nothing to it but now that I think of it, I can't recall Maguire joking or having any real chemistry with anyone in the squad. He seems so insecure with a serious inferiority complex so it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't have any friends in the squad.

Great game by Antony today. I've been on his back a lot but he's looked better recently, and today was easily his best United performance.

He’s also scored more than his fair share of goals against the strongest teams we’ve played this season. So he’s anything but the flat track bully you’re implying he is with that post.
No denying that. I do think he's been consistently putting good performances against weak opposition we've been facing recently, but he did seem quite lost agains the big boys. On the other hand, he's been missing a lot of chances against those weak teams only to score some crackers in the big games. Go figure.

Edit: I'm excited to see how he does in the next few games after Sevilla, he's in good form so that should be a good test.

In fairness, Antony's POV

Easily his best performance since he joined us. Obviously still developing and it's great to see his progress. I was worried for a while but now he's showing he's no more a one trick pony. Great attitude from him and credit to the coaching staff.

He’s getting some consistency and always works hard for the team. Plenty of cause for optimism that he gradually improves his productivity going forward.

He gives the team shape and balance. I quite like him.

Maguire comes off as a huge prick given some of his interviews and what he's done in real life. Obviously, I don't know the guy personally, but he definitely doesn't seem very popular with the rest of the squad.

Goal and an assist, not more you can from a forward. He is improving his all around play, however, there is a reason he doesn't make any assists all season, and it's because he is one of the most selfish players around. It's actually amazing that he is allowed to take so many shots with generally poor shooting quality, when his teammates are regulary in goalscoring positions.

Brilliant performance today. MOTM for me goal assist lots of threat and great work off the ball.

Eh

When I saw him actually take his man along the line rather than cut inside and then shoot with his right foot, I was over the moon.

He looks like a classic United player. As frustrating as he can be - and I wish ETH would limit his one trick shooting allowance to 2 per game - he has quality, never hides, is always involved, passionate, works hard and never gives up.

Even on his “bad” days where he doesn’t give an offensive end product he still provides a good balance to the team which helps the rest of them tick.

Our other options out wide… if they have a bad game they impact the entire side.

Glad he’s showing some progress and hope he finds consistency to build on. He obviously has the wider skill set he just seems to lack confidence outside of cut inside and shoot from distance when he gets the ball in that final third side position so often relies on his regular methods which can be maddeningly frustrating.

Onwards and upwards.
