Antonio Rüdiger - our backup plan to Rojo - according to sky sources

No, he's way better than those two, but still a joke if this is our plan to succeed Vidic.

He is further in his development and more experienced because he plays on senior level for one and a half years now, but in terms of potential and actual ability not above either Blackett or Keane from what I´v seen.

He is a versatile defender, because he can in theory occupy the CB and both FB positions. He is good physically in terms of speed, strength and height, but this is pretty much all.

His positioning is suspect more often than not, his playing intelligence, mindset and concentration is barely Bundesliga level, which results in a lot of stupid fouls on his part. His skill on the ball and overall distribution average.

I can´t really see him developing in anything more than a solid mid table Bundesliga player, because physically (his one true strength) there is not much room to grow. Not United material by a long shot right now and also probably not in the future.

He has also a bit of a character. He is a former youth player of Dortmund and stayed with us until Winter 2011. Due to his impressive physical strength he moved up to the U19 (the last youth team before the Reserve) at age 17, but this was not enough for him. He was expected to play U19 for another season to work on his football skills, but in response "forced" a move outside the transfer window to Stuttgart, where he had the perspective to play for their Reserve team (they played and still play 3rd league). This resulted into a five month playing ban by the DFB for him. He is overall extremely ambitious, bordering to arrogance.

rüdiger? wtf lol.

this was my elaborate expertise on the matter. bye!

I didn't watch him that often, but when I've seen him he looked good, especially for his age. Nowhere near United quality yet though.

This doesn't really fit the bill, he's right footed and not overly impressive on the ball. Sounds pretty much like bullshit to me, the source didn't really tell much either.

I've lost count, what's this guy like our 8th choice CB? LvG's list must have been massive.

Why are we not in for Howedes? I heard Schalke were willing to listen to bids of around £15m. He was quality a few season back and can play on the left of the 3. Reads the game well, decent distribution and excellent in the air.

An experienced defender like Rüdiger is exactly what we needed after Vidic left. What's not to understand about it?
If you are talking about Antonio Rudger of Stuttgart he was born 1993 , one year older than Blackett.

but he had a good world cup...:)

So based on what I've heard from people who have seen him before, and based on how we can't seem to sign anyone, we should just start bidding for all the FM stars that are defenders. Go for Balanta, Umtiti, Doria and all them. What have we got to lose.

Where? Can´t see Schalke giving up their captain and most important lead player for just 20 Mil. €. He also said that he won´t leave them this Summer.

There are not many realistic options in the Bundesliga for United at this point in time. Süle (Hoffenheim) and Knoche (Wolfsburg) would be exciting talents, but thats not what you guys need right now. Leverkusen´s Ömer Toprak would fit the bill probably the most.

We can still buy Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker on deadline day if we can't get Rüdiger, guys. Don't worry.

I thought Rojo was the backup! It's like bloody inception this...I'm off to spin a spinning top.

Earlier in the transfer window there was an article that stated Woodward received a list of A to C for each position. I think if we end up signing this player we would be down to F.

This doesn't add up.

Isn't Rudiger a right footed CB ?

And we want a Left footed CB i.e Vermaelen and Rojo then and playing Blackett there.

Why would he be backup to Rojo ?

And if we want a young defender surely we can find better ?

For example LVG really likes Terence Kongolo. There was Veltman in the dutch squad as well ?

ridiculous if true! Signing him and letting de Vrij join Lazio. A Woodward classic I'd say

Hummels - Rojo - Rudiger ----- is Titus Bramble still around?

Its seems that we're only after underwhelming transfers such as former Spartak Moscow reject, Rudiger and former Arsenal reject. Biggest club in the world my arse

Well... He'd keep us under budget.

Yes, since his involement in the Glazers takeover he can't do anything good which will ever change my mind about him deserving as much hatred as the Glazers. All bastards!

Antonio Rudiger aware of Manchester United talk

Antonio Rudiger admits to 'dreaming' of the Premier League as reports continue to link him with Manchester United.

The Stuttgart centre-half is said to figure prominently on the Old Trafford transfer radar as Louis van Gaal seeks defensive reinforcements.

United are not the only ones to have turned their attention towards Rudiger, though, with big-spending Ligue 1 side Monaco also believed to have put an offer on the table.

It is, however, talk of a move to England that has turned the 21-year-old’s head.

The Germany international is refusing to read too much into the rumours, but he is ruling nothing out as the end of the summer transfer window draws ever closer.

Rudiger told Sport-BILD: “Of course I am aware of the interest from Manchester United.

“They are definitely one of the top clubs in Europe and they are in a league I have been dreaming of. The Premier League is very physical, intense, breathtaking and with a lot of goals.

“My focus, though, remains on playing for Stuttgart. For now, I just have to try and progress as a player.”

Called into Germanys squad for the next 2 games. On a good way. 21 for most of the season.
Will keep a closer eye on him now. Löw sees something in him.
