Antoine Griezmann

His runs behind the defense were amazing but his touch let him down, at times. He's a great outlet to have, though. You could see the French midfield trying to find him with a long ball and it made room for the other attacking players to get further forward into scoring positions.

I thought he was good in the first half, faded badly in the 2nd and as he got tired he had some poor involvements

Madrid press are reporting that Monaco are talking to Griezmann as a possible replacement for James.

Madrid press trying to convince Monaco to let go... There are other fish in the sea. Give us James.

That's very Atlético Madrid of them. Selling a player for a lot of money and getting a replacement that isn't much worse for much less. A better team than Monaco should buy him.

Monaco are actually very good, almost as good as PSG last season.

Sure but they're in a poor league. Quite a bit behind PSG and quite ahead the next team. Griezmann is however French. The FFP has to affect those two teams. They've both spent well beyond their means. Without a sugar daddy Monaco has nothing. They've got less than 50% attendance on their 18k pitch. That's quite pathetic. No one would want to play for that except for the money factor.

True but you have to understand that Monaco in France is respected because it's a great academy, it's a club who give a chance to young players and french young players wants to play for them.

Griezmann is basically a starter for the national team. He'd be an automatic starter at most clubs in the world. He's not a typical young Frenchman hoping for a big break.

Hopefully he doesn't go anywhere. Sociedad signed an Icelandic forward so their games will be shown a lot more here.

He's used to playing as a wide man in a front 3, so Atleti's style of play doesn't really suit him. Not sure about his defensive work rate.

Diego Simeone is pretty flexible in terms of formation though. He mainly used 4-4-2 but he's used a 4-2-3-1 formation at times too.

He's pretty poor defensively so that might be a problem but in terms of position I think he could fit in as the second striker in the 4-4-2 or out wide in the 4-2-3-1. There's room for another attacker with Diego Costa, Adrián and Villa gone and Léo probably going out on loan.

Well with Mandzukic in already and Chicarito being linked to them, that position may not need filling.

Also on a side note, where did Adrián go to?

As Santos said, Porto, who also took Óliver Torres on loan.

Haven't been following the Chicharito rumours but yeah if they go for both there won't be room for the 2 of them in the starting team. I think Griezmann would fit better with Mandžukić though.

Atletico still in for Lukaku according to Di Marzio and are pushing quickly for him. Would be interesting to see what formation they go for if they sign him aswell as Griezmann.

He could be a good signing for them in the long run. He has proven himself in La Liga but still a new team, a new system. Would have been worth a punt at £20m for us.

I think he'd do well at Atletico either as a second striker or a winger. Quality signing for them.

Scored a hat-trick against Bilbao this weekend.

United need his kind of pace.
He just moved. He's also been unconvincing for the majority of the season. Pace is great, but so is quality, and in my point of view, Griezmann, while he no doubt has the quality, lacks the consistency.

To be fair he never said we need him, he said that pace of that sort would be welcome in this side. Which it would be.

Shame LVG couldn't convince Robben to come here, he'd be just what we need.

That's harsh. He was consistent for Real Sociedad, no reason to think he can't be consistent for Atlético or anyone else once he settles.

Personally i would prefer someone younger than Robben.

His performaces for Real Sociedad and now Atletico were/are what Mata's performaces for us currently are like. He's tidy, does the easy things right, produces sudden moments of magic. One fantastic game in 5 games, 4 average performances. Both are quality players but are not as good as they can be.

I remain baffled as to why he isn't on our team. We've needed a wide threat since Ronaldo left and he's going to hit 20 (in all comps) again, and is 23 and was not at a final destination club.

We're obsessed with central attackers. If Di Maria is best at CM, have we spent 20 million on a single wide player since Ronaldo left?

I'd much rather see him here and Rooney getting more time as a 9 than see Falcao's massive fee paid for. We needed pace and wide options and still do.

He's not really wide, thats part of it. Atletico use him as a forward and at Sociedad he'd make that same kind of movement beyond the frontplayers into the box. He's the last player you'd look at to give a boost out wide because he doesnt want to play there.

We need a wide player who can make movements into the box if we're going to play 4-3-3.

He might prefer to play centrally (basically everyone does, right?) but he was doing it at Sociedad and will probably have to do it for France, so I don't think it would be a huge deal. He'd still get games centrally or as a striker that is sort of wide when we play a diamond.

Was he not a winger in the World Cup?

He doubled his goal tally in the last game he played - and in that he played as a central striker. It's the only league game of the season where he played 90 minutes. In the rest he either mainly came off the bench as a sub (9 times) or subbed off (6). Seems like Simeone doesn't really like him, or didn't prior to the last match anyway, but with Torres apparently set to go back to Atleti, his role will probably be further reduced. Maybe not, we'll see after the break, but there's still a long way for him to go, and as his best appearance for Atleti was as a central striker, it isn't really showing what he's like out wide so the jury is still out.

I think Simeone definitely likes him, unlike Cerci, he's just taken a lot longer to settle than expected. The signs over the last few weeks have been good though, not just in his last game which was his best so far.

I expect his minutes to increase after the break, even with Torres signing.

He's like Solskjaer when he played on the right wing for a spell, but without the adopted "Beckham"-like crosses he'd put in. He's all about good off the ball movement to get into goalscoring positions. He can find a clever pass too.

He's not what you expect from a winger, beating players, giving width and putting the ball into the box so he'd be another central threat not much of a wide one. Also I remember reading quotes from an Arsenal scout and a United scout about him last season and they both mentioned his slight build

Thanks.

Sounds like he'd make a good inverted winger for someone. I can see that about him not really beating a man. What caught my eye about him was his work rate and movement; he was direct and caused a lot of problems. But yeah, not the chalked up boots type.
