that squad up on the page is impossible. even if they buy Griez and Neymar, that means they're selling Dembele, Malcolm and Coutinho and that still leaves them with some obvious holes in their squad.
Surely the whole point of getting Griezmann + Neymar is so that they are able to add attacking depth/competition into the squad (Especially when it is pretty clear that Messi is no longer able to play as a RW and thus is better off playing as a No.9/10 while Coutinho is clearly better off as a CM rather than a LW). So there is would be little point in moving from a Dembele/Malcolm/Coutinho/Suarez/Messi range of attacking options to a Neymar/Griezmann/Messi/Suarez range of attacking options.
spending all the money on those two means they will have sound first 11 but overall rather thin squad and will suffer when they have to rotate.
Which is why they kind of have to keep all 3 players in the first place, otherwise you are going to have the same lack of depth issues (that alongside other factors has helped stopped them from winning the CL despite their domestic dominance) after all that effort and money has been spent. Whereas if you keep all 3, then you would have to players of a proven decent quality (at the very least) in every position in the team apart from possiblity Left Back maybe.
Semedo asked to leave if I'm not mistaken so their fullback will be Roberto who's rather underwhelming player.
Any particular reason for this? Especially when Roberto is far more of a midfielder than a fullback if you ask me. Rather what they should be doing is signing another RB to rotate/compete with Semedo (such as Cancelo) and move Roberto into becoming a backup midfielder.
they had no backup to Alba and they most likely won't have it this year. there's good chance they'll have some youngsters covering both positions.
Kind of shows how much of a idiotic decision it was to sell Lucas Digne (one would hope they have a buyback clause on the player when they sold him to Everton...) in the first place. Regardless if they cannot bring Digne back from Merseyside, then they should look at bringing back Grimaldo from Benfica (especially if he is available for 40-60 million euros) to address this issue.
they also didn't have backup striker last year so if they actually manage to buy both Griezmann and Neymar, that just means one of the big names is going to sit on the bench more, like Coutinho.
Surely Suarez & Messi would welcome such a move considering how the attacking burden is far too reliant on the two of them (especially the latter). Likewise the increased competition for places would likely result better perfomances from all their attacking players, performances which are needed for them to win another CL.
also, one or two of Vidal/Rakitic/Rafinha is leaving as well
Personally I feel Rafinha (and maybe Vidal) should be the ones to leave the club. Rakitic on the other hand is more than good enough to be a squad option at least.
they can't afford to buy both of them and also buy decent covers for other positions. they certainly can't afford to buy both of them + De Ligt unless they plan to have fixed first 11 and only youngsters the bench.
They can afford to buy Griezmann considering how they managed to run break-even transfer wise both during last season & with the transfer activity they have done so far, likewise Neymar's transfer can be funded though extending the proposed naming rights deal for the Nou Camp (as I explained in my last post) while the transfers of Grimaldo, Cancelo & De Ligt can be covered though a combination of loan-to-buy deals & paying said transfer fees in installments (especially when they would not need to make any major transfer activity over the next few years if they squad issues where all addressed this window).
We've had loads of talented big name players over the last 6 and look how has that turned out. We need hungry, hard-working players with all to prove and talented at that. That's what I think anyway.
Other than (and for the record I am excluding those who where finished at the highest level or who where recovering from injury) Juan Mata, Di Maria, Pogba, Ibrahimovic, Matic, Lukaku & Sanchez, how many "talented big names" have actually signed for United since Fergie left.
Because when you compare to what Real Madrid & Barcelona have brought (the sort of clubs we are supposed to be competing with), its not really that many when you look at it.
With all of these possibilities of players in the mix Pogba/Griezmann/Neymar/. Madrid and Barcelona have already made some big signings so far in Hazard/De Jong. I think it leaves us with a free run at Eriksen. I cannot see any of them making a bid for him. We should have him on the back burner as a straight replacement for Pogba. He is a goal/assist machine.
Why not sign him up as a midfield partner alongside Pogba? I mean its not like we have a lot of great quality in our midfield in the first place (especially with Herrera gone) while playing with a 3-man midfield consisting of 2 Hybrid 8/10s + 1 No.6 (Which funny enough helped City win a Domestic Treble Last Season) would be an improvement to what midfield partnerships we have seen in recent years.
Levy was supposedly furious that we signed Berbatov instead of City. And so even though Spurs knew Bale wanted Real more than United, they tricked United into a bidding war to drive the price up with zero intention of selling to United.
Why would Levy be unhappy about City not signing Berbatov (instead of United) when they where not even in the discussion to sign him until the last few hours before the window shut (when the takeover happened)?
