Antoine Griezmann| Signs a new contract till 2022

Will we sign Griezmann this summer ?

Even if we didn't buy any player i am pretty sure we would rival second/third place in the PL, and are among the best 6 or 7 teams in Europe, now that our players found together. There are Real Madrid, Barca, Bayern, ok. But after those 3 our squad is definitely up there within a few others regarding individual class of the footballers. So however this transfer window pans out, it's definitely not the end of the world - or our football club.
That said, i'd be seriously disappointed if we don't sign Griezmann. Out of all possible transfers (not possible = Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar, Modric, Hazard) he would elevate our club the most, and bring us closer to the top 3 (BaBaReal)...
All other options that are thrown around - Perisic-Lingard, Belotti/Lukaku/Morata-Ibra, Lindelöf/Keane-RoJones...would only be slight upgrades, if any, compared to our first eleven this season, and wouldn't really make us a noticeable better club. Splashing 200m for such a slight upgrade seems a little insane for me - but well, it's not my money. I'd rather buy Griezmann and noone else (convinced that Griezmann together with Rashford or Martial would be a great striking pair), then no Griezmann but all those mentioned above.

Zlatan has not yet signed and has instead posted a video showing him to be a beast beyond our expectations - showing a recovery that stuns me (I've had the same surgery as him and at this stage was on crutches and barely scraping the ground with the operated upon leg. This when I was 18 and played regular football, while Zlatan is almost double the age, at 35).
2. Mino Raiola is stepping up the rhetoric on Zlatan and clearly angling for a better deal than that we had on the table
3. Reports started circling about what Zlatan would do...and how it'd impact us

Suddenly:
1. News hits of the CAS verdict (which was along expected lines)
2. We not only leaked the Griezmann news but also news that we were hunting for a "replacement" for Zlatan
3. News sprang up that we were also yanking the contract offer we had for Zlatan

All in all, I have no view on whether this will go through or not, but this is a long window. It doesn't close till September begins! We're on the negotiating table for loads of players and any that we even sign won't be able to kick a ball for us till at least July. We're therefore not in any rush to announce things that could weaken our position anywhere at all. It doesn't help us in any way whatsoever...while the current scenario also keeps the buzz going and the publicity, should something occur, would be over the top...

So, while I am not going to hold my breath on this, I'm not going to buy the argument that the CAS verdict was a shocker that suddenly made us / Griezmann change plans.

Mino being his agent chances are he may be willing to get zlatan move as he may get more commission out of it than doing +one deal with united. This is his last chance to make money out of zlatan who is the king among his clients and player himself trusts the agent a lot to go against his wishes with respect to moves offered.
 
I guess when he said his future will be decided in 2 weeks he meant the CAS decision on the ban. Hopefully this will be like Herrera where we end up getting him a season later. I think he was ready for the move, but wouldnt be able to live with himself if he abandoned his club in their time of need

I see this often, people comparing their own recovery from terrible injuries with top sportsmen who despite being older (in Zlatan's case here), are in a much better physical shape to begin with. They have access to world class doctors, to a very healthy diet etc etc... Zlatan's recovery should be compared with other sportsmen, not with the common mortal

Something like that. We'll concede the least or second least amount of goals next season, and I think in player quality our team is fairly good (a bit of a controversial point on here) but we sorely lack goals. I think a fair bit of it is down to tactics and player confidence. Fixing that will definitely make us contenders, but easier said than done.

I think we need to calm down. On the bright side, its very early in the window and Mourinho has other targets as well as Griezmann. Also the cnut might change his mind as well, the footballers says things one day and the other day its completely opposite.

I would be more worried if LvG was in charge.

Regardless of whether this lad signs for us or not, I really don't like it when players flirt with other clubs and put out silly 'tease' messages...

Hated it when Hazard did it, and when Ronaldo used to do it - in fact, for whatever reason, it serves as an almost immediate 'cut-off' for me in how much I like them as a character. It doesn't make me actively dislike them, but certainly I view it as a red flag of sorts, and I just find it difficult to take them seriously after that.

If I was an Athletico fan, I'd be really, really pissed off with him, and as a United fan, I'm just not really that bothered.

I'm finding it more interesting and exciting as to what CF we're gonna sign!

And also the sneaking feeling I have that a bigger name than this fella might be coming...

Such as? The player scores and creates. I would trust him to produce a better final ball then a lot of the players we have.

It was reported by Antonito Ruiz initially, that bloke who's supposed to be well connected with regards to Atletico. Also referenced by Pilib de Brun. But I could be wrong.

I agree but we need a new cm and a cb, potentially one of rb or lb. zlatans not necessarily done, and I know he gets hate on here but Lukaku, IMO, is a good shout in our team. Perhaps even an actual out and out winger is needed as well.

I know people want him badly but there's no need to cry over it (I'm not implying you are btw)

Same here, as I e said before in this thread , I could perhaps understand him staying if it was like 2-3 incidents where they broke the rules but no, it was 64 times I believe so they have nobody to blame but themselves so people saying it's commendable what he's doing are completely wrong, he's rewarding them for breaking the rules.

It just doesn't make any sense.
 
What are the big news requiring an alert for everyone?

That Griezmann is still an Atletico Madrid player?
 
Don't get why this thread was reopened without any further evidence the deal might be on. Just getting people's hopes up again when there is zero chance.

Griezmann is going to look absolutely foolish if he suddenly signs for us now in this window.

Really? How is Griezmann to know that we would offer what Athletico want? People tend to have short memories when it comes to this thing. If he cared about what people thought, he wouldn't have said what he said on tv lol

Fair point. So how about comparing with Rojo who sustained the same injury in the same game. At Stockholm, Rojo was on crutches and treading very gingerly. Zlatan meanwhile... Anyway, let's not derail this thread.

If all goes well, Griezmann could move a year from now (at which time either Mata or Mkhitaryan could be replaced). If he signs a new contract with an increased buyout clause, then the deal likely never happens. If he doesn't, it is likely just on hold.

I think we should consider looking elsewhere whatever happens next season.

Last season, no one knew of Mpabbe, and now is the toast of the town. They might be new targets next season.

I think Griezmann is a very good player, but like Di Maria when we signed him, I would be happy because we signed a good player, but not necessarily because I desperately want him. I think signing him would have forced us to move to 4-2-3-1 which I am not a big fan of tbh.

Glad someone at least has the intelligence to recognsie that the signing was happening but there was a U Turn by someone somewhere for reasons unbeknown. Its as if people think that somehow @Acquire Me had a personal hand in making this signing fail...

I can't even fathom how some people can think that he had the power to force the move to happen despite all the unknown background negotiations. Its strange that there are a numerous people on here throwing BS because a signing fell through. The point is we were clearly by all accounts close to doing it and @acquirme could not influence it either way ffs :lol:

He is just claiming that he knows someone in a marketing department and that they were preparing for a campaign/merchandise or whatever it is they do. Some people on here live off negativity and gain pleasure from thinking "see told you he was a BS artist". There is are a couple of people on here trying to have their cake and eat it by saying "oh it was an obvious signing anyway" because it was clear at that point it was in the process but then when it went tits up "see we told you he was a BS artist" which is incoherent with their first claim because they were initially claiming he was hedging his bets.

Whether he is or is not a "ITK troll", Its not Aquireme's responsibility to get the deal through or force AG to put pen to paper ffs :lol:

Why foolish? He can always say the club has accepted the buyout clause. Seems more like a public distancing from reports that he handed in transfer request.

Still believe this is not dead in the water, thougg past couple.of days have been hell for me since I just left the OT for torn ankle ligament and ingrown toenail surgery. Please give me some good news to cheer me up!!

I am saying when people (NOT YOU) have a go at someone because a deal did not happen despite the efforts of the signing club its not the fault of the "ITK". All the "ITK" can do is get a reliable source that the signing is in the process etc. Their logic (negativity vampires) would dictate that he had some sort of influence over it. "You said he was definitely signing, ha ha you are a fake blah blah" when they are stupid to think anything is definite when people can change their minds last minute as seems to be the case here.
