What do think of the (supposedly) imminent signing of Anthony Martial?

Doesn't have to work that way around - we brought Rooney and Ronaldo in when the rest of the team was in relative chaos, they were involved almost every week and by the time we got the rest of the side sorted, they were ready to be major players in it. Nani and Anderson were brought into a successful team and were in and out of it, neither really getting where they should have. The question is whether they have the talent and the mentality to make it with you, not whether the team can carry them whilst they learn.
I know what you're saying, you can put the roof on the house first and then work on the foundations later. And in the case of Rooney and Ronaldo that did end up being the case.

I understand what you're saying but Rooney and Ronaldo joined a successful side with a lot of top players and the best manager of all time. Rooney seemed nailed on to be a world class player and Ronaldo clearly had an incredible talent. They were given time (in most quarters) because we had faith not only in their ability but also in Fergie to keep us in contention. We just assumed that he knew what he was doing and that it would all work out.

A promising young player wouldn't be coming into anything like the same sort of set up today. There are big questions being asked of the manager, success doesn't seem like a given anymore and we don't have players like Keane, Scholes, Giggs, Ferdinand and Neville in the dressing room.

I think this team needs a Cantona more than a Ronaldo. Someone charismatic who can instantly come in and have an influence. Both would be nice. Not asking for much here.

This Le Parisien Journo saying Monaco want 60 million euros and Marcos Rojo on loan.

Monaco paid €5 million for him just 2 years ago.

You know what... If that's actually what they want then the club should do it.

I'm not saying he's worth that but if we are serious about €50m then what's an extra €10m? Given our desperation for quality. Not keen on the Rojo idea but then he doesn't seem keen to play him anyway.

I am pretty sure if we wanted him 2 months ago, they would have taken 30-40m. Now we are getting mugged around by fecking Monaco. We took Valdes and Falcao off their books, thats how they thank us for it.

Vades isn't off their book.

Stupid amount of cash and a big risk.

But we're rich, it's 31st August, Rooney is playing like crap and there are no better options out there that we can sign.

Get it done

Jesus Christ. They're trying to take us to the cleaners, and still sending us home to get more.

My thoughts exactly! If united want to have the best chance of securing top 4 then they must get goals. That costs money and the club had to be prepared for that. They knew if things didn't go well at the start of the season we'd look desperate and that puts prices up.

Losing one of our few genuine CB's for him and 60 million  feck that. Just use all this money towards a big name 'guaranteed' star

Walk away from that table and go up to West Brom hopeful that they remember that we gave them Fletcher and Evans and they will play ball on Berahino. 60m euro on an unestablished player when we have spent the summer selling strikers like they are out season is taking our stupidity to a new level.

Trouble is mate what top star are you going to get at this late stage in the window? I'm not saying Martial isn't a risk but a few days ago he was linked to Barca. He's got talent and no he's not worth that kind of money but we need quality.

Just realised that their coach is this former Sporting coach Jardim. Thats why he wants Rojo.

Ah yeah, forget that. Abdennour was their LCB, too.

On another forum I'm reading reports that Barcelona made an enquiry a few days ago which has forced Uniteds hand.
Makes sense instead of this panicking nonsense and justifies why Monaco think they have such a strong negotiation position

Also would make perfect sense as a 1+1=5 deduction from La Parisian, the clubs are probably both in bed at the minute anyway. Would take anything being reported before the morning as fluff.

Well fingers crossed this one really does have some truth behind it. I'm by no means an expert on him at all but from that brief video he has an Henry type style about him. My brother who follows the French league a fair amount has said he's a quality player. Whether he is or not is another matter. He's good enough for Barca to have been sniffing around.

Di Marzio reported it similarly with Darmian, at that time a lot of people questioned him too. Le Parisien and RMC did well in the Di Maria thing, and Rojo would make sense too.

Desperate days, desperate measures.

Just buy him. Adding some unpredictability to our front line would be helpful.

Why we aren't going after Dexler is a mystery.

A young up and coming player that is a hot prospect for the future who has pace? Yes please.

Thing is with two days left in the market we had to expect prices to rise. It's always the way! Add to that today's defeat and our clear attacking struggles and that's where this apparent price comes from! Ultimately it's poor strategy but hey we are getting used to that.

If our scouts have been watching martial then they should have seen fekir; hes been killing it on the right & left footed. Reminds me of a mix between hulk and robben! Such a good player and would work well in tandem with memphis.
Fekir is a no.10 from what I've seen

Considering how late in the window this is...if its a panic buy we should just wait. Mata...Di Maria...Falcao...doesn't seem to work out

so we penny pinched for (?) pedro and are now offering 60 million euros to martial? makes no sense, but then we've seen worse.

Pedro was 28 this guy is like 19/20 big difference. Either way forget comparing after another disjointed attacking display and Hernandez possibly gone we need 3 attackers before Wednesday.

Monaco's business strategy seems very clever, they're basically a new Porto. They have no need to sell, they already made a lot of money with the sales of Carrasco, Abdennour, Kondogbia... Berbatov's wages are gone, too...

They will sell, though, they are a selling club. They have recruited a lot of attacking players this summer, and got El-Shaarawy on loan. Martial is their best outlet up-front at the moment but he would be quickly replaced. His departure has most likely been anticipated.

They are not cornered though, and will probably ask for even more than £36m. They can afford it, they don't need to sell. While we need to buy.

Rojo is our second best centreback by a fecking mile. No way can he go leaving only fecking Daley fecking Blind as the resident left footer.

Chelsea made a 40m offer for them a few weeks ago I'm pretty sure, Monaco just wanted over 50m then like what we bid now. We'll see tomorrow I guess.

3? We'll do well to get 1.

Really stood out in those couple of games. I know it's only two appearances, but at only 19 to be that good and strong on the ball, and combining it with great pace, I think he's destined for the top. Don't care at all if we spend the money to bring him in as I think it could be like the Aguero to City deal a few years from now and he'll be the best striker in the league. Has it all.

How's his finishing? If he has a great finishing, he has great potential with pace, trickery and team work. But without finishing he's like Welbeck.
