I rate him when he's on song but he's an injury waiting to happen and that's a worry when the only other striker you have is a 37year old Ronaldo that doesn't want to be here.

Has to be taking those chances he got in the 1st half . No excuse to be missing it .

If Ronaldo stay, I am not worried about Ronaldo playing. The issue is whether he stays.

Ronaldo is still proven more clinical, prolific until further evidence than our other options.

He’s not the most rugged, is he? Seems to have a habit of staying down for ages after not particularly bad fouls. I think a big part of his struggles at #9 is how he seems to shrink away from the physical side of the game. A few tough challenges from behind early on and you won’t see much more from him for the rest of the game. In today’s game he was class until he got clattered at about the 30 minute mark, then almost completely peripheral from then on.

And yes, Rashford is similar. They’re as bad as each other in this regard. We’ll win nothing without a number 9 who can cope with the physicality of the Premier League.

Ok what's the fix then? Bored of people complaining about problems yet providing no solutions. Who solves our problems?
I'm not interested in your boredom.

Ronnie was the best CF out there and available, who is the next? It's easy to point the finger for solutions part way through the solutions phase and say resolve it. Lewandowski would have been my choice. Sesko looks too wooden. Given where we are now, I'd go all out to keep Ronnie. Martial did nothing, goal productive, that Ronnie cannot do. I'd plan for next season scouting for someone or hoping issues resolve themselves.

Cracking solutions, short term views in their finest. Wont be surprised if I dont see you in the mains soon to put in more ridiculous views

Where in my comment did I mention development opportunities? The only solution you offer is Martial who has proven not to be good enough, you live in hope one day he will be and are willing to risk everything on that rather than his record. That is ridiculous.

He always tries to finesse his chances which makes him quite slow reacting.

Hopefully benni Mcarthy can help some of these players out who struggle to play striker.

Rashford is a 2nd tier goal scorer. Make him your lone striker, he can give you 20 non penalty goals in total all comps at best.

He scored 22 in 44 in his best season from LW. He could hit 25-30 if he got back to form and matured a little. I'm not worried about his goalscoring, I'm worried about his overall lack of form, confidence, body language, work rate, team play, selfishness, decision making, heading the ball with his closed etc.

Three from Rashford, Ronaldo, Martial, Sancho and Antony or similiar would have the right balance of goals and creativity. The challenge for ETH is keeping them happy, motivated and buying into the style of play he wants. Anyone who doesn't deliver can be replaced in future windows.

Just been watching some vintage Martial on YT. What stands out the most is just how his body type has changed over time. Definitely filled out a lot compared to before. Of course this is expected as players mature, my issue is, I think in gaining size, he's lost some pace, quickness and agility. This also translates in him looking less electric as a dribbler.

On the flip side, he's gotten better in his general hold up play, riding challenges and playing with his back to goal. I guess he sees it as morphing himself from a winger to a CF. Afterall, this is how he's always seen himself, AM9 and all.

In the NFL, there's a big focus on gaining the maximum amount of strength and stopping before it starts impacting speed and explosiveness. Obviously different sport but this has to be the aim for footballers too, and is what Martial should strive for.

Rashford is a great example of a player that I think is doing this correctly. He's main issues are more around decision-making, which hopefully Ten hag can help with.

This obviously is a priority for footballers but you have to respect that if you want to play certain roles, you'll have to make sacrifices in parts of your game or physique. He's definitely less explosive now but he is certainly more well equipped to deal with centre backs. He can still dribble at a high level but I imagine we've seen his scintillating best in that aspect.

I have genuinely never seen this with him. It looks clumsy, there’s not really any skill involved and it usually just ends up with him running straight into a defender.

You've never seen him dribble at a high level? He's more than capable of dribbling past most players it's just that he doesn't try it very often, like with most of his game, he relies on confidence and fitness, that's been missing for the last couple seasons. I thought his dribbling game had deteriorated half way through the 19/20 season but by the end of it, he was going past players for fun.

Thats Rashford, Martial has excellent quick feet (the goal against watford, mugging off Foster) even when running at players theres a higher chance of him annoyingly coming away with the ball somehow.

The worst possible injury for us right now.

Ronaldo can’t start he’s not fit enough surely. Will be Elanga/Rashford/Sancho surely

fecks sake martial. This is what has ruined him the past few years more than anything, unreliable fitness. First game of the season, back with an injury, and now we don't have any depth. Just cough up the cash for Sesko

Knew this would happen, always seems to be the way when someone gets a big chance to shine they get injured.

Martial has a particularly poor injury record so the club only has itself to blame here

I wonder when the curse over this club will lift.

 You just have to laugh. Season hasn't even started yet.

Bruno on the left, and Rashford taking the striker position most likely.

Was so focused on the danger of relying on Martial's notoriously changeable form, I'd totally forgotten about the danger of relying on his less than robust fitness.

Imagine playing Ronaldo when he’s had a 45 minute pre-season and doesn’t want to be here.

So Ronnie now nailed on starter for the next few games. Shame for Martial he had some outstanding moments in the preseason.

Ohhh how right you were. Not even a week after your post he's injured.
