I'd agree that he never truly developed but always felt he was a player that had that bit of extra technical class - he used to A) make fullbacks look silly on the wing and B) his link up play in tight areas at times was excellent, in an era when we lacked that (Pogba aside). And his finishing accuracy was at times I believe the best in the league. So I do think he was always a good player with the promise of being great one day. Sadly now he has not only failed on those qualities shown, but fallen into the heap of mediocrity having lost even that.
I'm not sure, I think no legs would affect his heading too.No legs at all would be fine too. His headers alone destroyed plenty opponents in his career.
I was not one of that FC but I was a big fan of him. However enough is enough. Truth is none could defend him now given the current state.Where's Martial FC nowadays?
Could he be the next Anelka lots of talent but not enough conviction to apply it when it counts.
It doesn't even seem Martial cares about his own footballing career let alone the team. He looked absolutely done last night and is going the path of Benoit Assou-Ekotto of not actually liking football while having a decent career in it, but without having the dedication needed to perform consistently at the highest level.
Hard to sell when he's on 250k. He's not getting that wage anywhere else. Can't sell if he won't leave. Before Ronaldo was signed, keeping him made sense to me. Having only Cavani and Mason as options wouldn't have been ideal. His problem is that our standards have got much higher of late. We've seen the clever darting runs of Ronaldo and Cavani, their intelligence and alertness, and then watch Martial trot about aimlessly hoping somebody somehow plays the ball to his feet in the box. And when he does actually get the ball in those positions, his usp, he can't sort out his feet anymore.
Should have been sold in the summer. Literally our 4th choice striker.
Yeah, I don't understand why he wants to play as a #9 so much. He doesn't look good there. I just don't see a guy that wants nothing more than to score. He wants everything into his feet. It's rare to see him making many runs in behind or busting a gut to get into the 6 yard box. He’s a quality forward option when you are playing on the break, no wonder he looked a different player when Solskjær arrived and when we play teams like City, where the game plan is to break at pace.
He is much better off playing from the left, running at defenders when the opposition stays compact instead. Horses for courses.
Think the reactions are a bit over the top. He had some bright moments yesterday, particularly in the first half. That's not to say he was good but he wasn't terrible. Showed at least as much as Sancho for instance.
Anelka was miles better. Played for every big club in Europe (and City). Martial won't play at the top level again when he leaves.Could he be the next Anelka lots of talent but not enough conviction to apply it when it counts.
I'd take Anelka over him.Could he be the next Anelka lots of talent but not enough conviction to apply it when it counts.
When chasing a goal against West Ham and with Cavani and Rashford injured he still didn’t get on the pitch so how’d you work that one out? We might not see him again until December!!He's going to get Ole fired, this is why Jose wanted him gone, it's taken this long for everyone to come around to it though because Jose was such a toxic twat.
If Ole keeps picking him in games that are 'easy' we will drop points and it will cost Ole his job ultimately. There's no reason to show him loyalty, this business is cut throat. He shouldn't play again this season, there's no reason for it, he offers nothing. A half fit Cavani and Rashford would do a better job. We've also got Greenwood, Elanga, and I'd play Sancho as a false 9 before thinking about giving Martial minutes again. When chasing a goal against West Ham and with Cavani and Rashford injured he still didn’t get on the pitch so how’d you work that one out? I haven’t watched tonight’s match but perhaps Martial was one of the few players who benefited from LVG’s system. In general I’ve always had a feeling that he’s more of a system player than, say, Rashford or Greenwood. Give him clear instructions, isolate him against a fullback regularly, play quick 1-2s and he’ll look better (assuming he hasn’t given up).
He starts for Arsenal as a number 9 I think…that’s probably the only top 8 club he does though. Obviously he starts wide left for many a team. Interesting how we play it - we need him to retain some value so we can’t just never play him. If we’d signed Ronaldo earlier he’d have been sold when Inter came sniffing.
