Really frustrating, regressed so much. Even his dribbling is nothing special these days.

Cavani is younger than Vardy so we can definitely get another season out of him. Haaland won't be going anywhere this summer either, Dortmund won't sell him and Sancho together.

they might not be getting any offers for Sancho, but are likely they will be getting £100m offers for Haaland, whereas his release clause locks in the summer after - so very temping to sell him this year.

Let's see if he'd like to move to Dortmund in PX for Sancho. He really isn't cut out for the level we aspire to. Many refer to his hold-up play being a strength, but he seems to get dispossessed so easily, standing with his back to a player he has the ball directly under him, allowing the opponent to get a foot to it all the time. Really needs to roll the ball forwards at 'leg's length'. And his movement is shameful. At least he seems to be working harder under Ole.

I am so done with him as a United player and have been for a while. His season last year was at least ok but in the clutch moments he fell apart. Now he is back to his normal self, uninterested and dreadfully unproductive.
He offers nothing, no grit, no workrate, doesn´t run or win headers. He want´s the ball played to his feet not much further away than a foot length. Just look at the input from our competition players like Mane, Sterling, Son and more they are always at it while Martial plays almost every game even after those dire outings.

Sancho's pretty much told them he's leaving and this summer is the last chance to get good money for him. Haaland will most likely sign a bumper new contract once that release clause kicks in. After the impact he's had it would be hard to envisage him being allowed to leave Dortmund this summer, unless it's an Mbappe figure.

He was so good at the end of last season, massive drop this, when I was expecting him to carry the momentum into this year. Back to being static Martial, which is a waste of his ability.

If we win something this season, it's in spite of Martial, not because he's contributed. I fancy Greenwood to get more goals at this rate.

Unless he's saving 15 goals for the last 15 games of the season we should seriously look to move him on in the summer. I don't think he can handle the competition for places.
Honestly how daft is this comment? What does it even mean?

I'd have 20 year old Martial over this imposter.

But in all seriousness, I said at the start of this season that this should be make or break for him, if he doesn't better last years goal output we should get rid. I got a shit load of abuse for that, particularly by one poster. But my point still stands, 6 years in and he's made very little progress from when LVG first signed him. He's never going to turn into the player we all hoped he would and he is simply not good enough if we consistently want to compete as a title winning side. We need better and Martial is not the answer, I am convinced of that.

Yeah i noticed that as well. Where have his driving runs forward gone? It seemed every time he was on the ball yesterday he either ran into a blind alley or just recycled it back.
This is the problem. He isnt taking on players anymore. he just recycles possession way too much. I want to see him take more risks. Ole needs to let him know this. Im sure he can't be too happy with how passive Martial is this year.

I would genuinely rather have dan james on the oitch instead of him now

Absolutely helpless and out of form. The guy doesn't bring anything to this team and is a complete liability.

I was never a fan of him, and what annoys me most is his poor attitude. The guy is lucky to start every single game but is always complaining and showing no interest.

Hope we sign Sancho this summer so that guy can be sold elesewhere.

I am fed up with him.

That sulk last night. When the ball wasn't played to his feet @GifLord appreciate this might not be easy to find, but if you could GIF the moment this happened, that would be ace.

He walked around, pulling his face, arms in the air, devastated, as if life is unfair to him. Yet you've got Cavani, 10 years his senior, sprinting around trying to press 3 players, literally running rings round Martial, who still walking.

Embarrassing.

I appreciate, pressing attitude isn't the metrics of how good a player is, and when he's in form, Martial is devastating. It's just often enough. Even out of form, he does have decent hold up play, link up play. I just have an issue with sulky, stroppy players when you're in a title race and the score is on a knife-edge.

Bruno is a great example, if he makes a mistake, he sprints to the best of his ability to try win the ball back, he'll run back to our own box if it means he can rectify his mistake. And this is our "free-roaming number 10" we're talking about. I know lots of these 10's that wouldn't do that. and lots of 33-34 year old number 9's that wouldn't press like Cavani.

Martial should take a leaf out of their books.

I am not sure what is happening with this lad. He has been playing the #9 role but still not making that role his own. I think it is a mental block and the management team needs get on it.

Seems to have lost what little mojo he had - SAF had a knack of spotting this in a player and moving them on - over to you ole

18 months? Rather next 6. If he doesn't cut it now for the rest of the season, Ole will have to buy a striker and Martial will be 2nd choice or sold

I don't think so, Cavani will stay another season at least and I don't think Ole will move for another #9 until 2022 when Haaland's buyout clause kicks in.

Him and Shaw trying to link up tonight was like pushing together repelling magnets.
I think Shaw was just as much to blame yesterday, but Martial almost seems like on a complete other channel to everyone else as well.

£100M+’this summer or £60m the year after (or whatever the release clause is). Pretty tempting.

it may well be the last chance for them to get food money for Sancho - but not sure who is in for him.

It mean's we've carried him and his contribution is poor. You know that Cavani has scored more goals so far this season despite 9 fewer starts? Martial has led the line for most of the season.
He has still contributed nonetheless to get us here. Lack of scoring does not negate that. Take your shite martial agenda and shove it somewhere else.

Granted he isnt playing well to the standard we expect but he hasn't been a liability. Both him and greenwood cant even receive the ball in deep areas because of our midfielders. Look at how deep greenwood had to drop yesterday only to pass it back. Same as martial. Still I won't lie and say I dont expect Martial to use his better ability and drive up with the ball. He looks lost and average right now but there still is no reason for posters like you to continue this shite narrative of him not being good enough. Its tired and has been proven not true,

What a massive let down he's been this season.

Terrible, the main striker for Man Utd and he's scored 4 goals from open play all season, only 2 league goals. They are appallingly bad numbers, pathetic even.

That semi final against Sevilla last season was a hint of things to come, his finishing has been dreadful. I'm close to losing patience with him to be honest.

I don’t disagree with this, and I certainly don’t want a Martial vs Rashford debate. I’d pick Rashford every day of the week - but we need a squad of players, and players need to be rotated.

my simple point is that we don’t need to be selling someone every time they go through a sticky patch of form.
This is where it gets a little tricky for me. How long can we cater to a player going through a sticky patch of form, as you put it? 6 months, a year? When is this going to be viewed as having a bigger downside than upside? He’s been piss poor by his own standard (mostly) since he froze against Sevilla.

I don’t know the answer. But being honest, selling him won’t raise big funds - £30-40m? We’ve done well with him in poor form, so if he click into gear, then we another really good option.

Me neither, but I know it’s not a full season. You’re not really starting striker material for ManUtd at that point. In my opinion of course.

Is it official that Cavani stays for another year?
I don't think we can wait too long imo, and everyone will be after Haaland so that is a rather risky gamble

He's become so casual lately, it's infuriating. There's no urgency in his play, no desire to win or chase a ball. He just spends his time on the pitch sulking and waiting for the perfect pass.

I always thought that he'd grow out of these habits with coaching, but he seems to have regressed. I'm not sure what else can be done to help recover his game. Dropping him for a while might help but he's such a confidence player that it might make things worse. His attitude stinks.

He's fine, he's developed other aspects of his games. His build up play has improved and decision making and this is reflected in getting games for France. I just think he prefers to play through the centre and he's being played out the left.

I've seen a reluctance to pass to him from Shaw and Maguire. The former even forgot how to run in behind whenever Anthony had the ball, providing enough material for world class threads on twitter showing why Martial has no vision and can't pass. There's a similar reluctance to find him from Rashy this season, and from Paul ever since Martial was moved to his preferred central position. DDG also prefers to boot the ball to either Bruno or Marcus as if they have better control and strength to bring it down. I guess a majority of first team 'leaders' want him dropped...

I don't know how you can describe him as 'fine'. He asked for and was given the responsibility for being the focal point of our attack and he's not fulfilling his responsibility of scoring goals. It doesn't matter whether his hold up play is improving or not if he's not achieving his main purpose of putting the ball in the net. And while you are right about playing on the left, this hasn't been the case in every game. When he's been in the centre, he's been disappointing.
It is also questionable whether his games for France will continue because his international record is underwhelming and his current club form does not give any cause for optimism about an upturn.
With the top of the table being so congested, we cannot afford to carry players and he's not doing enough to earn a starting place from what I see each week.

He needs dropping for a few games. I’d like to see that Rashford/Shaw partnership back on the left as that’s a big attacking weapon we’ve been without. It’s a conundrum because he had his best season last term but doesn’t seem to be up for the fight when a quality player(s) threatens his place. If we ever end up buying Sancho or Grealish, I think his days are numbered despite me genuinely believing he’s more talented than both of them

Love him. Don't agree with the assessments on here at all. Do hope he bags a few goals soon though.

I feel like I am on a Martial slander mission here but this guy has been playing in the first team now for 5 seasons now and has rarely ever lit the place up, his numbers were quite good last season without being phenomenal but when does this guy actually just click into consistency ? i don't believe he ever will and this will be the story of Anthony Martial, has fantastic technical ability but never consistent, a bit like Nani if I am being honest, fantastic player but so frustrating,

I like Martial and have no real issue with him, but I was watching a James Maddison interview yesterday and he was talking about how Brenton was saying at this level you cannot afford to have any passengers in your team which i 100% agree with, but how many passengers do we have in ours ? At least 1 or 2 most games and Anto usually being the prime suspect.

It's a cruel world but i think Ole really needs to start considering a replacement for this guy next season.

It's like he can't be criticized without consistently over the top nonsense takes like he's never shown anything to warrant working through his bad patch. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, United without Martial has never played well or looked good. I do agree he's been really poor, but law of averages say he's due to turn it around and might as well be in the second half of this season given United's current position despite his struggles.

He's out of form and bang out of confidence. There's currently no positives to his game whatsoever, he's not even working hard and doing the basics.

He needs to be dropped for a long time.

He offered Shaw nothing down the left. Nothing at all. The amount of wasteful passes was criminal

it would be something if he was showing willing and things weren't coming off but he's not even arsed with his body language and sulking. Pathetic

There's an option for a second year that both the club and Cavani have to agree on activating, unless something goes badly wrong in the next few month I don't see why both parties wouldn't want to.

When you look around in the market there isn't any great options bar Haaland, Liverpool and Barca don't have a top traditional #9 at all, Real Madrid are still using Benzema, Milan have a 39 year old Ibra, Chelsea haven't solved the problem and is Gabriel Jesus enough to replace Aguero? Yet none have bought a striker because the market is barren in that position right now with the one true standout unobtainable until 2022 unless you're willing to drop £150M this summer, and even then Dortmund might refuse if they get a big fee for Sancho.
