He's nowhere near the level Sanchez is on though, and Sanchez is still in his prime. We need to compete now, that's why we signed him. There are no guarantees that Martial is ever getting to that level for us.

Based on Sanchez's performances this season, that's wrong.

Signing Sanchez is looking like a really bad deal, Martial is better than him on the left.

He's obviously not, but the truth is we don't play the football for either to thrive. The difference is that we see Sanchez trying to play it all the time while everyone else strolls about, whereas Martial is often happy to be one of those contributing to the stroll. He can pull something out the bag every now and then but his overall contribution to games isn't enough, even if he gets an assist or a goal.

You mean Sanchez's level last season. This season he was underwhelming for Arsenal and has had a very ordinary start to his United career. Martial has 2 extra goals and 3 additional assists in about 300 fewer mins playing time this season.

You lot are something eh. Martial is 22. Treat him like one.

Yeah because of his age, his attitude can't be questioned. Martial FC supporters are the worst because they are ready to suck up to Martial irrespective of how he plays. Well I saw people defend him after the Newcastle game so I shouldn't be surprised that he is being defended today.

Martial has more goals and assist whilst having less minutes and probably less starts in the first 11.

So when Hazard had a bad season, did he suddenly become shit too? Also Sanchez has just joined United without a preseason. Let's compare him to Martial after he has played a few games for us.

Very good game from Martial. Created 2 chances in the game, whilst only Hazard had more (3). He needs to be consistently playing from the left side, whether as a LW or LF in a 2 up front.

Overrating like this is ridiculous. You can say he did well for the two chances he created and move on. That was nowhere near a 'very good' game.

And Martial is 7 years younger than Sanchez, can't you be patient with him? If he adds the needed intensity to his game, the Frenchman can become unstoppable playing from the left side in the attacking third. In 3 years time, Sanchez will probably be declining physically, whilst Martial won't have even reached his peak yet. We need to nurture and help our young stars develop their game, not just expect them to figure it all by themselves.

Considering the circumstances and the way we play, I would say it's a very good game in my eyes. Better than Sanchez, although not by much but still.

This is exactly the problem with some of you. It wasn't a very good game. What a joke.

One problem with Martial is that he appears the odd man out in our attacking line up. With him, our attack looks disjointed, and doesn't have that smooth flow we have with someone like Lingard.

And yet you are the same bunch that moan about attacking and exciting football and are willing to sell a very good player of that ilk at the drop of a hat, Who also contributed to our big game victories in the following:
1) Tottenham (Scored the winner)
2) Arsenal (Assist)
3) Chelsea (Assist)

He is a very good talent who is 22 and is experiencing a drop that every young player faces. And yet he is contributing to our victories. That can only be a good thing right?
And how is Martial FC a bad thing? I am sorry, I didn't know backing flair wingers at Manchester United was a bad thing.

He's just not kicking on. You'd expect him to be a better player by now, when really he's not much different from the day we signed him.

He gave full effort today, well done. Not one of his best games, yet crucial in our attacks.

Second half is poor, but that's fine, did his job solidly first half.

Anyone else notice this: Martial did a lot of high pressing and dropping back following Chelsea players. Good defending performance by him.

Nothing to complaint about.

Yeah, it's a joke people would rather get rid of Martial and get someone like Perisic. I said it's my opinion he had a very good game, you can think he was shit all you want but don't give me that attitude!

He doesn't look as good as when we signed him. Dribbling seems to have regressed slightly. Not being negative but can't remember him beating a man regulary through a game.

Hope he presses on but always other options out there.

Manager still kind of doesnt trust/rate him to play consistently which Doesnt help. He is playing better than most of our attackers.

He's very frustrating. Has such a high ceiling of potential and is capable of some really silly things.

Moment of magic with that quick touch for Lukaku's goal, then losing the ball trying to do a ball roll instead of just passing it 5 yards to a team mate.

He needs to work on his final ball as far too many of them are hit straight at a player or to nobody in particular, but at least he's working much harder than he used to.

I'm basing it on Sanchez reputation and achievements on a whole, and just last season alone he was world class. It's not like he suddenly turned crap, just because he hasn't had a great season. It's not like he's old either, he's in his prime.

You can't just look at the numbers and not consider their complete game. If you think any manager would prefer Martial over Sanchez right now then I don't know what to say really. Sanchez has become untouchable as a starter as soon as he arrived here, while Martial hasn't been able to cement his place in the first eleven after almost two years under Mourinho. Martial needs to do much more to be considered anywhere near someone like Sanchez.

And that's the whole point that is being made. Sanchez isn't actually showing us anything that lives up to his reputation.

This forum's memory is as good as the last game. At this moment, Martial is having a terrible season. Sure, forget all the fecking player of the month awards he's been getting. Fickle fickle fans

That's because he was basically our only attacker, everything went through him. Every attack we'd give him the ball. Now we have a more balanced team it's not the same.
He is probably about as good, it's been a strong season for him so far.

Attitude could be better but I look at the way Jose managed players like Robben, Salah, the wider playing De bryune & I cant put too much blame on martial struggling under Jose's management. I simply don't think it's his type of player; nor fitting to his relatively simple tactics. Luckily for him & rashford; they will probably outlast his tenure.

Martial & Rashford are going to need a manager that utilises tactics that get the best out of them; same goes with a lot of the other younger technical players sitting around the outskirts.

A slightly better than average performance mirroring a team with very simplistic & average tactics.

Time for him to be benched and Rashford to start again.

Those two are killing me with their inconsistency. But I guess they are young.

Nah Rashford is in an even more terrible form. At least when Martial had a day off or something, he came with a very important assist.

This forum brings out the real worst in United fans, no patience what so ever for a young player with genuine world class potential. Wonder if you lot were like this with Ronaldo when he first signed? Because he was also very inconsistent at first and lost the ball so often, however unlike Martial he was atleast afforded a consistent run in the team in his favoured position under 1 great manager who had genuine faith in him.

Thought he had a pretty good game despite the frustrating incorrect passes.

Felt he was the best attacker in the first half. In the second half he was going through this spell of poor passes and then got substituted and so could not make up for his mistakes.

Still, got a crucial assist and the team is still trying to figure out how to play with both him and Sanchez, so things will improve.

Comparing the potential of a young Ronaldo to Martial is ridiculous, come off that. We’d be lucky if he reached the heights of someone like Robben.

Martial DOES NOT have world class talent. Tell me what aspect of his game is 'world-class' ?

I'm fed up with this Martial love-in. The guy is fit, young, powerful, and should be the hungriest player on the pitch. He's a forward at Man Utd, and his performances are too often, too abject for the team. You can flaming well see it. He is 22, and er, yes he is 22! He is in the team for a reason. Not because 'he is 22'. If he cannopt cope, he needs to move on, and next season is critical for him.

I have no idea what he is thinking.. does he want to be a very top player? Does he already think he is? He did well for the first goal, not a special moment, but now these are called 'assists' and people say it is a 'good stat' etc. Look at his performances. He is, and continues to be, as it has been far too often, rather ineffective. But Mourinho doesn't help him, or any of the attacking players, I grant him that.

He needs to evolve his game. He needs to decide whether he waiting for the club to play the way he wants (whatever that is..) or is he going to make an impact, and go out and dominate an attacking game.

Mane. Hazard. Selah. Willian. Sterling. Firminho. Kane. Ericsson. Ali. Sanchez. Arnautavitz at West Ham. Gabriel Jesus. De Bruyne. Silva. Son. Ozil. Mahrez. Vardy. And (finally..) Lukaku today (so let's hope he really kicks on and bosses teams around, including this United team.. lead from the front, lead by example...)

I could probably go on. All these players have taken a number of premiership games (from an attacking sense) by the scruff of the neck and delivered a result AND performance for their team. They inspire their team-mates. It's clear, undeniable. Martial does not do that and I am fed up with people giving him excuses. Man Utd aren't a charity and he isn't some poor lost kid. Guy needs to step up and get back to where he was a few seasons ago.

I look forward to a Rashford return.

You say this everytime but here you are right after Martial has a slightly poor game to bash him. Are you calling the rest of our attackers how poor they were in this match in their performance threads.

I did not bash him. I was saying to call that a 'very good' performance was bollocks. I said he did well two create the two chances. Maybe you should actually read the conversation.

And, 'I'm done with this' meant I was done with that guy. If he wants to sit there and delude himself that it was a very good game from Martial, that's on him.

Played on left side and created a great assist today, that's what the fans want to see Mourinho set up the team. Martial on left side is much better.

One thing he needs to improve was his attitude after he lose the ball himself. He is not chasing back and it's not good enough especially comparing to Sanchez.
