Relative to what he's done here he's up there.

Yeah Fellaini and Lingard probably get more stick in terms of volume but neither for them were recently player of the year. I've seen guys who want him sold or at least wouldn't be bothered if he was. Which is bloody crazy when not long ago he was lighting up the season.
 
You keep banging on about player of the year but when did he win this player of the year? De Gea and Smalling were our player of the years for 15/16 season.

Think you're being a little pedantic but he was the best outfield player 2015/16. If you think Smalling was better fair enough.
 
Would be fine with him being subbed on against tired legs tommorow, cutting in from the left as is his wont. Do want to see smarter off the ball movement this season and the ability to stay wide and still be creative/threatening when starting this season; modern forwards are fine but sometimes the oppo needs streching. Also a few (cup) games as a 9 to see how he's come on as an option there. Like the idea of him or Rashers up front with Lukaku, Mata or Mhki even as an option off the big man too.

Could be a big season for him, still a boy but not a kid anymore, really hope he does well.

If we go a 4-3-3, then there isn't really somebody to drop. He's our best left winger and has been the best performing one. Lukaku walks in at striker and Mkhitaryan walks in on the right. Or I would say it should be like that. Rashford is awful whenever he plays on the left but Mourinho loves his attitude and work rate (fair enough) so he usually fits him in where he can, and that was normally at the expense of Martial since he was playing poorly. Shouldn't be the case once Martial picks up form.

In credit to Rashford I think he has improved as a LW, but I feel he is better on the other side tbh. I think Mou will during the season play both Lu and Rashford up top... but it depends if we can buy a LWB or not too so he can play his 3-5-2.

Miki hasn't been in the best form, but he has exceptional talent and will always get you a goal.

I'm not sure who he will play tomorrow... Martial deserves it, but how do you leave out Rashford or high energy Lingard?

Mkhitaryan has been arguably our best player this pre season, he walks into our side. The question is just who plays the other wing, and that's between Rashford and Martial. Lingard shouldn't really come into it, especially when we have a midfield of Pogba, herrera and matic.
 
Feel so sorry for him. Would kill it elsewhere while we continue to waste him.

And people will say he didn't take his chances when in truth he isn't even given a chance.

The guy was one of our most outstanding player in previous season and Jose completely ignore him. Then later to justify everything Mou does you'll hear people screaming that he doesn't take his chances when he doesn't get much.

I think he somehow prepared for this and aims to sub in Martial later on when Real could be tired.

I guess we'll see soon enough. I'm hoping that's the case. I think he'll shine if he's brought on!

He only started one of seven pre-season games; I think it's a bit clear Mourinho really doesn't like him. I wouldn't be surprised to see another season like last -- where the last time he made 3 consecutive starts was in October.

The coach doesn't like someone so he doesn't even want to try with him? That really depresses me as the kid is super talented. A complete and utter waste of resources by Mourinho.

Hope Barcelona or some other non PL team comes in for the lad. I don't want to see him anywhere in the PL as it will come back to bite us on the arse.
 
if i would be him i would feck off. mourinho is a complete twat with his handling from martial and he clearly has no future here.

Kid does give his all in pre season and should have earned himself a spot in the super cup game but Mourinho ignores him even when we're chasing the game and need to score.

At least now people should just have the decency to admit that Mourinho doesn't fancy him and all the blames shouldn't lie on him. He did his part in pre season and still didn't get rewarded as often happened last season.

These are already bad signs of what to come this season for the kid. He's simply unfortunate. In an ideal world for him, he'd have improved last season from his previous one and still have more confidence to further improve this season but unfortunately Mourinho happened to him
 
It's ridiculous that a turd like Lingard starts while Martial doesn't even get on as a sub.
 
Give up. Jose doesn't rate him. Might as well go on loan for a player that will actually play here.

He's unfortunate to play under a manager like Mourinho, Wenger would do wonders with him. The kid needs to leave for his own sake. Go to a team where he'll play regularly and build back up his confidence and fulfill his ridiculous potential. Mourinho is a complete cnut for the way he has treated him from day one.
 
It doesn't surprise me but it's disappointing he played no part in the match considering his amazing assist last time. Fearing another season like last where José just refuses to show any trust in him.
 
And the process of destroying his confidence has already started.

I mean you're Martial, get yourself a good pre season then get completely ignored. What goes through your mind after that?

All I'm hoping for is that a non PL club comes in for him. Mourinho is a right ass mismanaging the lad like this. Can't believe the club is allowing him to get away with this nonsense. Can you imagine Jose gets rid of the kid and then he himself gets sacked? I'll never forgive him.

Anyway no use worrying about it. Martial just needs to stay cool and keep his head down and we'll see what happens.
 
Why the feck do we not use an exceptional talent like Martial in a game like this that was crying out for him? If I was him I'd seriously be thinking about leaving if his role won't change compared to last season.
 
One of the few negatives about Mourinho at Utd is how he doesn't seem to be able to get the best out of Martial.
 
I'm not sure if Mou doesn't rate Martial or he was protecting him from wilting under the supposed pressure of this match.

Because as good as I think Martial is he is in equal measure a pu**y.

I've seriously started to dislike Mourinho over his handling of Martial. What he's doing is simply unfair, he's treating one of his player very unfairly and he likely knows that too yet probably doesn't care.

I tend to dislike people who unfairly treat others.
 
At some point, he'll get 20 minutes and not score, and that will be seen as him 'not taking his chance', ignoring the fact that those being given the chances are producing feck all.

Jose simply plays inferior players to him time and time again. I suspected this as he started on the bench throughout pre-season.

fecking stupid he's not playing because of his lack of defensive contribution.
 
Chasing a goal and doesn't even use his third sub? strange.

Could have come on for Darmian and played the left wing whilst pushing Rashford upfront, we should have sacrificed a defender 80 minutes in ffs.
