Personally thought he was pretty quiet tonight. Was overdoing it at times. Would have liked to have seen him play central over that waste of a jersey that is Jesse Lingard.
They gave us time all game. After Astana went ahead, they were happy to sit back and stand off, and he looked better when he had time and space on the ball. Obviously has good technique as he showed with the free kick and crosses from the wing, but needs work everywhere else.
Barely plays and when he does it's out of position to accommodate a scrub like Lingard. That and already being behind Pereira and Mata in the selection. If he's smart he'll look for a new club in January.
Yep. Gomes does his best work where he can utilize his touch in and around the box, or to set off counters. I mean, not sure what people expect of Gomes when he's just given the ball on the wing hoping to make something out of nothing. With Chong that's a big part of his game, with Gomes it's not.I thought he did well. Maybe I am biased cuz I like him a lot. That chance spurned by Chong was from excellent work by Luke Shaw but it was a simple give and go with Gomes that put Shaw thru. I think that's where he does his best as a no. 10 or CM involved in quick interchanging and passing.
yesIs this your king?
We are not going to give him minutes till he signs, he is not going to sign till he gets minutes. We will regret it. Been with us since he was 8 ffs!
He's really still feeling his way into this level of football. Reminds me of his first season with the u23s.
Yeah, he's not showing enough to earn a place right now. We just need to get him signed and be patient with him. Still very young. The problem is I am not sure we can afford to wait for his development. Our midfield is thin and dire and needs help now. With Gomes, it may be a case of bad timing.
Gomes is a pocket player & we won't find out if he is good enough for us if he doesn't get a chance to play in the pocket in between the likes of Rashford, Martial, James and having players like Fred, Mctomminay or Pogba behind him.
If he moves, he will get that chance. CAM in particular is a place we are getting links to every summer & one signing away from making Gomes's chances at United void - especially if we get someone like Maddison, grealish or someone even like Sancho if he comes to potentially play centrally.

Maddison with Gomes as backup would be a nice set up imo. Mata, Lingard and Pereira can all feck off as far as I'm concerned.
I'm a huge fan of Gomes but I don't really think he's ready to nail down that position yet. When he's played he hasn't really grasped his chances. If he stays I'd expect him to phase out Lingard and Pereira over the next couple of seasons. There's no need to rush it. He's still only a teenager.Definitely.
But this is currently going down this route where Gomes is only playing in matches that mean absolutely nothing and hardly ever getting to play with the best players either. Add this to the fact that you could argue that all our CAM's have struggled to make up a possible 90 minutes of positive performances combined & i don't find Gomes potentially leaving as a big headed move at all.
Gomes may not have had the best of games - but even in his performances I see plenty of times where he makes passes that manage to break open a defence that players like Pereira, Mata or Lingard dont do at all.
Like - surely he must be thinking when Ole came in to manage this club that this was his first and proper chance but what the hell has players like Pereira done ever to deserve start after start? Just happens to be born a year or two older than him and that's all. I find it unfair.
I was saying the same for Greenwood when Pereira was getting games at RW and doing nothing game after game but now James has that role & is performing its a fair deal for Greenwood to work hard to break through.
I don't think Gomes is getting a fair deal.
If he did get a couple of games and failed to live up to the hype then we can move on. If he managed to become a solid dependable player then we can shift the other dead wood out and as you say, look to bring other potentially better players to compete with the lad.
Right now it seems like we are bringing someone like Maddison to compete with Pereira & Lingard - I have to question if that's a fair assessment atleast in terms of chances on the footballing field.
He is being linked to the biggest clubs and just like here he won't get a proper chance for maybe a couple of years. Best choice would be Barca where maybe they would send him to Barca B where he will slowly integrate into men's football for a couple of years before being called to the 1st team squad.

Pereira is a terrible player. I have no interest in trying to justify his selection. He should be playing for someone like Granada. He only plays because we lack players in his position. As for why he plays over Gomes, it's literally just down to being older, more experienced and slightly stronger.I can see that he isn't ready and he is Raw, sometimes looking like a kid playing against men.
Yet he is also alot of the time a kid playing with kids and not playing with men around him either.
Just explain to me why Pereira is more ready than him? Is it an element of maturity? Because I can see that in him yet I can't see him do anything with it on the pitch.
Im not going to talk about Players like Lingard & Mata who have had good half seasons for United before - but when it comes to pereira & Gomes I really struggle to see why we wouldn't maybe build an element of maturity up in a player who currently in a position we arguably receive nothing from ( like pereira at RW instead of James or Greenwood)

That's the point though. You can only say he hasn't earned minutes if whoever is keeping him out is some good player. Gomes can at the same time not be some good player at the men's level and at the same time deserve minutes. Pereira, Lingard, Mata, and Gomes should actually compete for a spot as opposed to just giving it to Pereira for no reason other than he's older.Pereira is a terrible player. It's fair to say unless he improves physically he will never be a winger, he's a number 10 who plays in tight spaces. He's got great balance/agility and great link up play (as seen with the shaw/chong chance)
Unfortunately I think he might end up being 1 of these players that is clearly world class technically, but he just doesn't have the physique to play at a really top level. Hope i'm wrong as he's a beautiful footballer on his day.
