They will never get this. Nor will they get the 5m bonus for willing two UCL. Even the 5m for winning the league might have to wait a couple of years. We should have reduced the fee to £30m and the rest should have been add-ons. Another 5m could have been used if he wins the WC. Another 5m if he scores 30 goals in a season etc. Stupid Ed, couldnt you negotiate a better deal?

Never thought an Argie would be our British record signing and No 7! Now couldn't be happier! Welcome to United my Angel!

Interesting formation Gary used there - the diamond with 5 defenders. Unless we get Shaw and Rafael, we will still struggle for width because Young and Valencia don't do feck all.

RVP/Rooney

Mata

Di Maria------Herrera

Carrick

Shaw----------------------------Rafael

Rojo-----Evans-----Jones

Completely agree with Gary here.
Yep. One thing that Gary didn't mention is if Van Gaal changed formation to a 4-3-3 which was odd.

I am not buying that we will sign Blind, we alreadt have Rojo and Shaw to fill one position.

Blind is naturally a centre midfielder though, and he'd be an improvement on Fletcher or Cleverley.

To be honest, it would have been better if the whole deal was performance based. £0m upfront with the rest based on goals, assists, trophies and personal honours. You have to ask what Ed was actually doing paying them money for him when he hasn't even played a game for us yet.

Cruyff said two days ago that Blind effectively can't play in midfield and also said he is not fast enough and technically in order to accelerate.

There is no need to spend £15m on a player who will play in his second/third best position. We could spend that that on a proper midfielder.

There is no logic in getting Blind.

I love the idea of someone actually saying "We will give you zero million pounds up front"

What has accelerating or speed got to do with it? Pirlo, Xavi, Scholes, Xabi Alonso, Carrick and many, many more have managed just fine.

I'm not saying that we should sign him or whether I think he's good enough, just seems a strange reason to rule him out.

I think I would trust Cruyff's analysis of him, no offence to you.

Well thats just not true.

Blind isnt fast enough to keep up with the fastest wingers when he plays leftback but he's faster than the likes of Carrick, Fletcher and Cleverley so more than fast enough for CM. He's also good technically.

We need to shake our heads a bit, I mean we do not need another bit-part player who can play in all positions but is not the best in each positions. We need to stop comparing to midfielders that we already have (ex Carrick). Our Averageness in our midfielder makes anyone look better. Would Blind get into any other team? Also, people should saying he should be used as 'cover' because it is his actual position? The LB role already covered-so he is a midfielder if he joins United. He is not cover.

We can't waste £15m on a player who is just 'cover', we need top class talent. We have to aim higher.

Buying players for the sake of adding depth is useless. We don't need any more sub par players. We finding it hard with the ones we already have and can't move them on. They need to improve us if we are buying them and playing Blind next to Herrera is not going to be that different in my opinion.

If you read my post, that is exactly what I said/meant.

Completely off the point of criticizing his speed or technique, which were silly notions

He'd go straight into the team in CM, unless top form Carrick reemerges. No he wouldnt start at the likes of Chelsea. Maybe in for Arteta at Arsenal, definitely better than Fernando has been for Man City.

But Ander wouldn't get in much more often at these teams and we paid near £30 million for him.

Agreed. We need to add depth by forcing current first-choice or first back-up players further back in the order. Di Maria is a superb purchase. We might not be able to get a similarly world-leading CM (Vidal, basically), but there are players out there like Khedira, Aranguiz et al who would push Fellaini, Cleverley, Fletcher et al a bit further back in the order, and provide real, viable competition/backup for Carrick and Herrera.

Blind is vastly overrated on here. The only position where he'd be good enough for us to consider buying is as a wingback. He's technically limited for a midfielder, and lacks the pace to be a reliable fullback.

No way is he better than Fernando. No WAY.

Anyway, I think we should stop now as this is a Di Maria thread.

Wait, what!?!

Di Maria is £60m BEFORE any add-ons? Tell me this true. Please. :D

Crazy isn't it? We could have got Origi, Moreno, Markovic and Lallana for that and really swollen our squad with more average players.

Agreed, but you can't really blame LVG for the injury crisis. He has to plan for what our team will look like when we have a reasonable number of our first XI available.
