Ange Postecoglou | New Spurs boss on 4 year contract

5th would have been a good season for them at the start of the season. They could end up finishing 6th if they don't win at least 2 of their remaining 4 games. They might only have to take 4 points if United and Newcastle don't win every game.

Losing Kane was massive. Nobody knew where the goals were going to come from. Son had a poor season last season and Richalison has a terrible debut campaign. Ange has done well to get 27 goals out of them both. There aren't many natural goalscorers in the Spurs squad. That's something they need to address. 67 goals in The PL is a decent return without Kane. They'll need to get more goals out of Johnson and Kulusevski next season.

Even though Spurs lost the last 2 games, you can actually see glimpses of a good team. They mainly only lost due to set-pieces. They created good chances in both games and dominated possession for large spells. The cutting edge in the final third just isn't there right now. Kulusevski has had a very poor 2nd half of the season and Maddison hasn't been the same since his injury.

They need to add 4-5 players in the summer to fill out the squad. Vicario and van de Ven were good additions. More signings like that will be needed.

His football is too naive for this level.

Do you feel the same way about ten Hag?

I feel like Ten Hag’s would be better with better footballers, but yeah, it’s always open to being ripped apart by teams/coaches who know what they are doing. We saw that even when ten Hag was doing relatively well.

I think Ange is just as inflexible and his style is even more open to counters and pace. I think they will struggle as we have this season.

Can see them getting rid of him and moving for Iraola or De Zerbi. I know Brighton have had a poor run but they've got so many key plays out injured.

Why should they sack him?

Firstly he needs a proper structure before he can be judged.

Secondly who else is available? Literally no other managers exist.

Thirdly, they've had a few injuries this season. He can't be expected to achieve anything without a fully fit squad.

Second half of the season hasnt been as good but they would have snapped your fingers off for 5th before the season started. The problem was the incredible start made people into believers that it would last all season which was unlikely. Especially when they got injuries to key players like Maddison who had started the season on fire.

Spurs have 3 or 4 players they should give a chance from their under 21 winning team. Donley is getting a few mins off the bench but he should get plenty of actual gametime next season because he will create goals. And they have Bergvall coming in who is a tchnical dribbler who can pass so thatll be another addition going forward although he might be slowly integrated coming from a weaker league. What they really need is some toughing up defensively though with Sarr and Bissouma not very solid compared to the beginning of the season and both the fullbacks being young but under par defensively. They should get better as well as Van Der Ven though as they're early 20s

They should absolutely not sign Werner. He's not good enough to be keeping their under 21s winning wingers and attackers out. I'd play Donley, Soonsup-Bell or Santiago before picking him. If Bentancur can stay free of injury and he and Hojbjerg can get back to last season's form they might not even need to sign a new midfielder to play instead of Sarr. And I still rate Lo Celso so he should get more games too. And Lankshear off the bench when they need a goal, he'll score if they set him up

5th without Kane for a team that was all about him before that is great going. Even if there was a good chance to get top 3 or 4 this season with how things played out

Ange in November:
“The amount of times I hear managers saying: ‘I would like to play this way but I don't have the players…"
“I just think, just do it mate.”

Ange now:
“We need change. Change has to happen”.
“I’ve got to change this squad, I have to. I’ve got to build a squad I think can play our football. For that to happen, there have to be exits”.
“We’re going to play and train a certain way… that’s not for everyone”.

:D

Hahaha...when he said that at the time I thought it would likely come back to bite him and now here we are!

You'd have absolutely taken 5th place is you were Spurs after losing Harry Kane. They've just ran out of steam, but its been a good season for them.

Absolutely. Considering they replaced him
with Timo fecking Werner…in January? The Caf has some weird agenda against him too. It’s as if he’s done something personally to each and every one of us. Really strange how much a lot of people want the guy to fail.

They look a rabble. No belief and no identity. Not saying he won't turn it round (I don't know enough about him) but this season is ending disastrously.

I really don’t think it’s a question of running out of steam. They have played fewer games than almost anyone else in the league.

The issue is the tactics are naive and easily counteracted by top teams. The signs were there when Celtic played in Europe.

Pretty much agree.

His perception has been boosted by their good run of form early in the season, also because people conveniently forget Tottenham were quite lucky during their winning streak

Yeah they'll have played 41 games at the end of the season and that's really low number compared to every team from top 10 of the table or so.

They look really shit, it will be interesting how his second season goes.

In the second part he is talking about change of squad/players, nothing wrong with those quotes.

They can’t defend… Kane wasn’t the only reason they could try defending when they got that 1-1 at Anfield against a much stronger Liverpool than this one, barely 2 years ago.

The love-in for this guy at the start of the season. Jeez.

:nervous: Sounds familiar

He’s turned out to be quite the fraud. Fun manager but probably more suited to a mid-table side that appreciates occasional entertainment.

He's basically Bielsa at Leeds isn't he.

Comes in, plays gung ho football. Gets people suggesting he's a genius.

Then it quickly dawns on people his team lose a lot and concede a lot.

He has his shortcomings, but the players are playing like they are trying to get him fired today. They aren't losing because they went too gung ho, but because the players have either downed tools or heads dropped and he can't get them up again.

 Funny on paper, but they're not necessarilly contradictory statements.

A manager can go into a club with his preferred style of play and choose to implement it regardless of the players he has at his disposal. Others may take the view that they should adapt more to the players they have.

If they choose to imrpint their style on the club, then of course they're going to attempt to sign players that fit it better when it comes to transfers. It's not like they're going to purposefully buy players who don't, or keep ones who haven't performed well within the preffered tactical framework.

Two different stages. One talking about what to do at first, the other when it comes to shaping the squad.

He seemingly did play his preferred way and still wants to going off the later quotes, so nothing really changed there.

Fair enough they can’t seem to defend as you say. But the people calling posters/media ridiculous for the perceived OTT praise at the start and throughout the season are just as ridiculously going OTT calling the man a fraud etc.

Called it last year. The hype over him was outrageously over the top.
He could turn out to be a decent midtable/Europa League manager. Some people on here were already claiming he's the heir apparent to Klopp based on 10 games :wenger:.

They started the season well but it was typical 'new manager bounce' stuff.

We all knew a blip would happen but their record against the top sides is woeful.

Teams have quickly figured out how to play and set up against them.

Sure they've been unlucky with injuries but they've played once a week since Jan so top four should've been within their reach.

I remember posters on here pining for him despite the fact that he was clearly flavour of the month. Spurs won’t achieve anything with him in charge, his tactical discipline is shocking.

Lost four in a row now, only two wins in their last eight have been narrow wins against Luton and Forest. Just win, mate.

The point is it’s a bit stupid to play a style of play that doesn’t suit the players and it was obvious it didn’t suit some of the players. Being incapable of adapting your style of play to get the best out of the players at your disposal isn’t something to celebrate.
