He would be an ideal pick up for us in the summer. Very versatile, can play striker, the Eric position, as an attacking midfielder. Good crosser, excellent workrate, and a classy player. Doubt he'd cost in excess of 7-8m too. <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

I saw him this past summer, and he REALLY impressed me. In addition I'd add he has a fierce shot, and a nice vision of the game.

Do you think we can have him for 7-8 mill?

7-8m is my guess. He's one of those sleeper players who would produce more than what he's valued. Could be a fantastic deal since he's only 22.

I saw him playing for Holland Under 21 on the night that they got beat 4-0 by England. To be honest he was the only player that looked any good. The rest were crap. Dutch players have an excellent record in England, he would definetely be a good signing.

hands off Andy <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[No No]" />

err...whatabout van der vaart?

better than van der Meyde:

Gudjohnsen2.jpg

more expensive maybe,but
proven in the premiership
23 yrs old
stronger than vdM
better in the air - 6ft
more experienced-Belgium,Iceland,PSV,Bolton,Chelsea
recovered from a career-threathening injury (broken ankle) at PSV so he has character

he's United material

*seemlessly hijacks the thread*

agreed. but Chelsea would never sell him, especially after he's just blossomed. Van Der Meyde was mentioned because he would be relatively inexpensive. Bates might listen to offers for Forsell though.

Forget about EG. He's not leaving Chelsea anytime soon. Forsell has similar potential though and would be much cheaper.

Oh...and forget about Cisse - he's going to the Arsenal :p </strong><hr></blockquote>

He's taller than Ole.

He's an excellent goal poacher. 9 goals off the bench. Plays similar to Ole about 3-4 years ago.

You speak as if Yorke would be a valuable bargaining tool. He wouldn't. Anyone with half a scouting brain would correctly identify him as a partying has been. Ranieri is looking to go younger and continue building the squad with players like EG. At this rate his valuation is on par with Hasselbaink's, which makes him that much more valuable since he's only 23.

I don't think Yorke is a particularly vaulable bargaining tool in general, but in the case of Chelsea, offering him as part replacement for Gudjohnsen, he could be...

Regardless, United should offer what it takes...

You speak as if Chelsea were a serious club. They're not. Good young players with ambition don't hang around Stamford Bridge for very long. Gudjohnsen won't be staying at Chelsea if he maintains anything like this season's form and United should be the club to take him.

Why would Chelsea want to get rid of Eidur Gudjohnsen (23/up and coming) with Dwight Yorke (30/seen his best days). Seriously, think about it. I watched a lengthy interview with Ranieri, in which he detailed his plans to make Chelsea younger, with a few experienced players (JFH, Zola etc) thrown in to guide the primarily younger side. Just look at the moves he's made and the players he's brought to the forefront in the past 18 months. Gallas, Terry, Gudjohnsen, Forsell, Gronkjaer, etc. He specifically sold Flo, because he foresaw the rise of Gudjohnsen, and now you're telling me that he would swap him out for Dwight Yorke ? I'm afraid not. <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" /> <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[No No]" />

They are indeed a serious club. Why would you suggest otherwise. Mark down you calendar - they will be in the CL next year, and they will compete for the league and FA Cup next year. Don't make the mistake of categorizing them as the old 'Rent Boyz' of Vialli. It doesn't take a genius to see that Ranieri is slowly building them into solid, perennial contenders, similar to what Houllier has done at LFC. Bottom line, don't assume that other clubs are going to rollover and say yes, when we offer them our rejects for their stars of tomorrow. <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

He's a load of hype. I've watched Ajax at least a dozen times in the last year and he's yet to impress me.

Thats what I thought when I saw him play...but since i've only seen him twice..I thought there might be more to him than meets the eye at first glance.

he's very talented, i saw him play in a tournament involving liverpool and milan during the summer.. must say i was impressed, especially with his skill...

i've seen him play for ajax a few times in the past couple of months..from what i've seen, it seems like he's lost confidence in front of goal...

He's a bit of a donkey as well. right now he's being outshined by the likes of Machlas, Mido, Wamberto etc.

Zlatan is like Anelka, brilliant but unstable. Whoever manages to sort out his psyche will have a genius on their hands. No one has yet proved they can sort out Anelka. Ajax are making a mess of sorting out Zlatan. I doubt whether SAF would do much better.

WHO has SAF failed to control ????????

The point being, nutters need not apply at OT. <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

Just posted in another thread saying that we need another guy in Ole's mould ... If you guys think this chap looks very much like Ole couple of years back ... and wouldn't come too X ... I say GET HIM !! ...
I have to admit that I haven't really take note of this guy till now ... One important point for me is what you guys said he has got very good vision ... For me that's an valuable assest !! ... Just see what Berkham is showing now ... He might be old and out of international scene ... but class remains ... and he still time and again split the opponent defence with great precision of passing ... and score clinical goals. .. After Eric, we have been missing this for a while now ... but we are lucky to have such a strong midfield ... But last nite game against Boro the lack of creativity to unlock defences show again ...

Yeah. van Der Vaart has scored quite a lot of goals for Ajax. He was once the top scorer, and he is only a midfielder! I say we sell Fortune and get him for about £8~9m. So if Giggs gets injured we can put him on.

Perhaps Chelsea will qualify for the CL this year, perhaps not - taking fourth place with a late run wouldn't make them a 'serious' club in my book...
Only United, the Arse and now Liverpool can take titles in the forseeable future

Rainieri's intentions may be sound but will he get the backing to carry them out? How much time do you think he has ? If he is still there in two years I would be surprised. He has spent an awful lot of dosh with no concrete return as yet.

Not so very long ago Leeds looked like they were getting 'serious' but we all know what's happening to them now.

Chelsea are the club of the future and always will be.

He's on the same track as Houllier is imo. Remember, he's only been in charge for 18 months, and has had to completely redesign his squad by acquiring both young and experienced players who he can work work with. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if they finished in the top 2 or 3 next year. Similar to what the scousers have done over the past 3 years.
