Andreas Pereira - SIGNED FOR FULHAM

The idea of him being back in the squad strikes fear into me.

Why did he return?

He hasn't returned yet actually, started their last game and scored but it is certain he will be returning. He is on his way back because

1. In the Libertadores final his sloppy pass gifted the winning goal to Palmeiras and so regardless of how he has played in other games the fans cannot forgive him. Very unfortunate as up to that point he had played really well and was popular enough but in the aftermath the fans turned on him and for a while his form suffered too although he seems to have come out of that now.
2. Flamengo have encountered some financial issues since initially agreeing to sign him permanently. The deal was supposedly around 8M which was less than the purchase clause in the contract but before it could go through they hit some cashflow issues and adding in the fans attitude they have decided not to finalize the move.

Edit, just noticed this article. Seems it is not quite dead but maybe only in a Monty Python kind of way

Flamengo manager reveals Andreas Pereira Manchester United transfer request - Manchester Evening News

Could we not just give him to Flamengo, he's 26, and is just going to waste another year coming back to us.

Could we not just give him to Flamengo.

Fans just won't forgive him and it does seem that after trying to atone he has now decided it is never going to happen and is actively looking for a club in Europe. Based on his record, experience, age etc. he is a saleable asset if we are realistic. Leicester have been sniffing around in the past and I would think other mid tier clubs would feel he could do a job for them. 5M with maybe a sell on clause should be easy to get.

It's surreal that he's still here. This is Woodward's legacy, we can't even give our deadwood away.

To me that seems impossible for us, we always seem to make hard work and massively over complicate selling players.

Opposition fans must get a great laugh when they find out we've still got players like this. Would be like finding out Aquilani is still on Liverpool's books and they plan to give him minutes next year.

You never know, a confidence boosting screamer in pre season and he might be like a new signing.

I was surprised to find out that Karius was still at Liverpool.

Please God no

It's sounding more and more like next season is going to be yet another dreaded "clean slate" / fresh start for our deadwood.

That’s the problem there’s no continuity at this club from the top, Ralf was supposed to be a first step into that direction to ensure failed players don’t get undeserved chances but we just throw everything out of the window because of the new manager again.

Would help if you would wait first to see what happens before professing doom and gloom.

If this lad is anywhere near the match day squad next season we’ve learnt nothing. Should have been let go on a free years ago.

Why are we giving players who have already shown not to be good enough second chances to prove once and for all they're not good enough?

If ETH gives this guy any minutes I will be well and truly in the doubters camp about this man.

Don’t see why the club is being blamed for this. It’s Flamengo who didn’t want to take up the option to buy him, no?

For some of these players we should be negotiating like a yard sale. Name a reasonable price, but ultimately take whatever the feck they are willing to give, so we can get this stuff off our lawn.
