Andreas Pereira | Fulham player

I don't get why he isn't better. He has so much natural talent: He is a great passer, has a great shot, is good at dribbling. Even his attitude seemed okay to me. And he has a great name. Why on earth is he so fecking average?

His brain just doesn't work fast enough to be a top player. Great technique, great work rate, but where someone like Scholes had 'an extra yard in his head', Pereira is more than a couple of yards behind.

Slow thinker

Also a very handsome chap.

Decision making/football IQ , the hardest thing to have for any player at any level. If you lack that then all your qualities won't be exploited consistently

Quietly been very good for Fulham I feel. Very involved on tonight's match.

I'd go a bit further and say he's been very good for Fulham. If Mitrovic is their standout player, he's their second. Happy for him.

I’d go even further than both of you and say he’s been very good for Fulham

I will go even further than you 3 and say he has been amazing for Fulham.

He's doing well for someone a lot of people didn't think was Premier League level.

This guy wants to participate but doesn’t know how to play the game.

Probably would be decent under ETH given he knows how to actually coach a team to play through the CMs and not just have them as dogsbodies doing the grunt work. We also have a load of Brazilians now, bet he wishes he’d never left.

When I saw the thread bump I immediately went to my FPL team, you can imagine the anticlimax

Interested to see how the youngsters we sold/didn't renew this summer develop in the next couple of years. Chong has started well in the Championship. Lingard has had a rough start but Forest in general are paying the price for signing a hundred players in the same window. Pereira looks like a steal for under 10m.

He's always had the tools, just needed to put it all together in his best position and with a manager who gives him time to settle. Like it has been any different - players just need game time to refine their game. Funnily I don't think he would be worse then extremely wasteful Fernandes who had perhaps half dozen really elite games the last two seasons and more.

Andreas don't think will stop at Fulham, still pretty young, two years younger than Bruno and only started to get a proper run of games in the Prem. Some might be really surprised when he gets a bigger move in the few years time..

Just hope he proves his haters wrong, he's not really a useless player like some of the experts here think..

Funny how short memories are. Before Bruno was bought, Andreas was playing in his role and we had absolutely no cutting edge and didn’t look likely to score. Bruno came in, started scoring and assisting, we turned our miserable form around, finished third. Little details.

Pre-season Pirlo at United.
Actual Pirlo at Fulham.
If we want him to return, we might as well bring back Fellaini. There's no point.

Exactly this.

He’s the kind of player that we should have sold 2-3 years earlier for cheap and slapped on a friendly buy back price like what Madrid does.

He’s finally showing the potential he shown at reserves level and it’s a shame we wasted his time and paying him money to send him out in pointless loans.

Exactly this.

In no way comparable. Whenever Pierera got a game it was usually in a midfield which consisted of himself Lingard, Fellaini and Mata, Bruno himself would would struggle with that. Whenever Pierera got a chance it was usually as part of a second string side.

Bruno is clearly a better player, I'm not arguing otherwise but to say it all changed when Pierera was taken of of the team is not true given he was never in the team to begin with. I doubt he ever started three games I'm a row for united.

I admire him for going to Brazil and doing well over there. The fact that he is doing well at Fulham proves he is a player capable of cutting it in the PL and good luck to him. Nowhere near as bad as our fan base made him out to be.

For some context, he's older now than Bruno was when we bought him.

Fair points. I should have been clearer and highlighted just the bit in your original comment about how Pereira was unlikely to do much worse than Bruno. I felt you were downplaying Bruno's initial impact.

I know you did this to make the incredibly funny Lingard joke, but… We tend to produce good players, it’s some achievement in itself performing in the Championship or being a good player for a potential relegation side, or abroad like someone like Gomes.

Just shows you how high the standard is (even at our lowest!) to be good enough to go from youth to an actual senior player here.

No ill will towards Andreas at all. He's not a starter-level player for a top 6 club and that's ok. Very happy for him to be establishing himself for a solid side that plays good football, he's been really good this season. Watching him this season the game seems to be slowing down for him, he's finally making decisions at the right speed, learning when to release the ball, etc. Do wish we had someone with his set piece delivery, Fulham look like scoring on every corner.

That’s demonstrably untrue. Pereira got most of his games under Solskjaer. Fellaini played a total of 3 minutes under Solskjaer. I doubt there’s a single game Pereira played alongside Mata and Lingard. He was mostly playing with Fred, McTominay, Matic and Pogba. Much like Bruno.

On your other point, he started 11 Premier League games in a row in 19/20.

He was really poor here. The epitome of a nothing footballer. Nice to see him excel at PL level.
