Enjoy this little highlight package from the tour.
Yes, you did just see "passing between the lines".
Thanks for sharing that. In a word awesome. Really hope he delivers the same next week.

Matic is going to miss the start of the season, so Pereira is in line to make his first-ever league start against Leicester next week after seven years on our books. Even though we have seven central midfielders competing for just three starting positions, Pereira is standing out with his skill set as I really hope we give him a chance with a start vs Leicester.
You could be right. I’ve said before in order for us to improve I feel José neEds to indulge our creative player more. We’ll see.Should be starting, but don't be suprised if we play: Fred - Herrera - McTominay against Leichester.
A. Pereira plays to risky for Mourinho's liking.
This place is going to be lit when Fellaini & McTominay end up ahead of him in the pecking order.

shooting is only one of his many qualities, I'd name few which are on the same level:For me Andreas' main quality is still his shooting which is something we'll likely see a lot less of if he's playing as a 6. Doesnt mean its not worth it and he wont also be good deep but it does surprise me.

Re him being an alternative to Matic, how good is he defensively ? As #6 he would have to atleast have good positioning like carrick. I would have thought he is better suited as #8 as a backup to Fred/Herrera. I didn't see much of the preseason mind.
It will be a big challenge for him but I think his short passing and on the ground passing is excellent if he slowly builds on that with long passing which can be a bit erratic, good on him but he could easily be a player like Verratti who plays quick short to mid-range passes, in that resort I think Andreas is really good already.I find he miss places passes a bit too often to be trusted in that deeper role.

The only way he learns is by misplacing them. How is he supposed to be perfect at 22?
Did I say he was meant to be perfect?
Matic used to be a #10 aswel. The transition will be easy for him as he has Matic, Carrick and Jose to get tactical advice from. He already has the skill set needed and most importantly the willingnessWasn't Carrick more of an 8 at Tottenham before transitioning into a 6 at United? I think Pereira will likely play as a deeper playmaker who gets more protection alongside a Matic or Fred for now. He's not ready to handle the full responsibilities Carrick did. Not yet.

From what I've seen of both players, McTominay should absolutely not be ahead of Pereira. In FM terms, Pereira is a decent/good Premier League player, McTominay is a leading League One player. We will likely see both of those on the pitch ahead of Pereira but, that's because they'll be playing a different role. Based on this pre-season, Pereira should be our backup to Matic and maybe he can even do enough in the first few games to displace Matic as an automatic starter.
I personally hope that McTomminay goes on loan some place and Pereira get any chance he would get even if it is not as a number 6. He did a job last year when called upon but, towards the end didn't do enough to keep earning game time and definitely not based on this pre-season. Still, hopefully this place doesn't get bent out of shape if he plays ahead of Pereira in some games.
shooting is only one of his many qualities, I'd name few which are on the same level:
I think for these things Mourinho sees him rather there and I am sure he will get a shot or two per game from the far behind the box.
- ability to keep the ball under pressure, his sharp turn and dribbling
- vision
- passing range
Also if we play some fluid midfield with Herrera, Fred and Pogba in the mix, all of these players can drop deep and Pereira can push forward if it ever becomes that fluid under Mourinho. Andreas will also want to be patient and no too expansive like Mourinho likes it but he can slowly build on that and can try things later
Your post implies that we shouldn't play him in that position, which is completely the wrong mindset to have, in my opinion.
He played in a completely different position at Valencia. No it isn't. He's not ready to play there regularly for us because I felt his passing was still too erratic. I never implied he had to be perfect.
He didn't exactly light up at Valencia either. He needs more game time somewhere else imo, don't see him starting ahead of Herrera or Fellaini if any of our first 3 midfielders get injured.
He played in a completely different position at Valencia.
All the more reason not to throw him in as a 6 all of a sudden for us.
Not at all. Much better to throw him in in a position which suits him, than maybe playing him out of position such as out wide, on the left or the right.
He won't regularly start though, Matic will. How does that translate to you then saying he needs to play elsewhere. Why would he do that?I adressed this in my previous posts. My concern is that he's not yet ready to regularly start as a 6.
He won't be our only player playing there. He'll get a good number of games hopefully and get used to the role.I adressed this in my previous posts. My concern is that he's not yet ready to regularly start as a 6.

He won't even be playing the same position as Fellaini. At no point will Fellaini ever be our 6.Because he's 22 and needs regular game time, obviously!
He's most likely not getting in ahead of Herrera and Fellaini on the standby list but needs to play to establish his potential. 22 is young but if he went on loan to get gametime last season, chances are he'd need to do the same this season.

Since he went on loan last season that means he needs to this season as well? What kind of logic is that.
He'll get plenty of time here.
Do you want me to spell it out for you?
He wasn't able to get enough game time at seasons start last season when we had a non existent Carrick plus others.
Now he's back and we have Fred replacing Carrick plus everyone else. He hasn't lit up at Valencia and he wasn't even played in the role Mourinho used him in preseason. Fred is a 6, Herrera is a backup 6 and then there's probably him.
This season there's even more competition for the place, so why on earth is it not a good idea for him to go on loan again? It got him good experience last season and he's 22. He needs to play more than just a handful of games, and I'm sure he knows that. In fact it was his choice to go on loan last season for the exact reasons. This season its even more fierce for places.
Well, he is almost guaranteed to start the Leicester game as No 6.Its decision making. Sometimes he plays something too risky, or he tries to do a clever turn but gets into trouble. If he stays in the squad this year i think Mourinho will want to check if he can trust him in cup games first and see how quickly he learns. In the PL the mistakes will cost us. Maybe by the season end he will be getting PL games but i doubt he will start the season.
Except that Fred is not a 6 and Herrera is also a better 8 than 6.Do you want me to spell it out for you?
