Any English sources going in on this, or just shite Italian ones?
Always the annoying part about these links. Its always aggregator accounts referencing some random Italian source

Exactly. Ridiculous how much money we lose by letting players go for nothing. DDG should have been sold few years back and we let Pogba go on a free when we splashed 90m on him.
De Gea was literally impossible to sell. He was by far the highest paid goalkeeper in the history of the sport, while his performances had dropped off a cliff BEFORE he even signed that contract. We would have had to pay clubs to take him. There's a reason there hasn't been any rumours of clubs showing even the remotest of interests despite them being able to talk to him for 6 months for a free transfer (barring a small rumour of a Saudi team).

He was close to going to Madrid… unfortunately for us they signed courtious otherwise they’d of probably still of wanted him.

Calamity waiting to happen

feck up after feck up both on and off the field.

He's been the #1 keeper for Ajax and Inter Milan. He played 41 matches for Inter last season and they finished 3rd and made it to the CL Final. He can't make saves though.

Also held 4 clean sheets in 4 matches against his favored counterpart on the cafe Maignan in the derbies this season

Once this has been wrapped up expect that see Henderson and De Gea moved on pretty quickly. Their combined wages and the fee for Henderson should cover most of this transfer so hopefully it won't make a dent to our available spending.

Does this signing change our style of play completely?

I would say so. I love big Dave, but he is not a modern keeper. A modern keeper should be more involved in the game, both defensive and offensive. EtH want the keeper to keep the ball, sweep balls, play good short and long passes even when pressed. Dave does not like that at all and even though he has made an effort to better himself, its just not who he is.

Ye no matter how hard some players try it just isn’t for them. It’s natural to some keepers. DDG is probably one of the best shot stoppers around but he’s declined so much and started letting in silly mistakes. We need to move on from him and get with the modern football that ETH is bringing. DDG was alright for people who play basic/defensive football like mourinho, LVG. They needed to rely on DDG. Now we need a keeper that can help the team play good football.

I think EtH knows this very well, but since Dave is a long serving member of the club and a good guy, it's not been easy to make this call. The fact they went back on the offer proves that Erik know it's the right move sporting wise. Ruthless some would say and it probably is, but it's the right call.

Opponents who used to press us high due to DDG's inability with the ball will think twice about that as they could get exposed with someone like Onana who is composed in possession.

We suffered too much possession with DDG launching high rockets without any purpose. Onana is capable of finding players centrally, if space is open due to not coordinated press by an opponent, or making a chipped pass to wide areas where we will have a free man if the opponent stays narrow to prevent being outnumbered centrally.

Also, he is capable of finding a target with long passes if necessary, as opposed to DDG's pointless launching.

Stylistically, we will have more of the ball and more sustainable possession than we had last season. We will probably still be short of a few players (CM & CF) but gradually our chance creation will depend less on the fast turnovers as we will start to structurally build our attacks from the first phase.

We will finally have a use of an extra man in the build-up and it really can transform our play.

I thought him and ETH wasn’t on good terms at Ajax or was that just a rumour and all is good now?

I actually rate him highly but these stats are very misleading in cup competitions. might as well add "most appearances" to the list.
He was the leader in most of those stats throughout each round though

I still believe we will get a CM & CF but unlikely that's gonna be Caicedo/Rice & Kane. More likely Mount and Hojlund by the looks of things

Yeah, with Mount instead of Eriksen and Hojlund rotated with Rashford at #9 (or starting together with him) we would have more pace to pin the opposition backward and more work rate upfront to start to press teams higher as we weren't exactly the team known for high press last season.

That, along with having a keeper who can sweep in Onana, will help us move our lines ~10 meters further. We were at the bottom of the league last season for an average high defensive line record.
