A proper proper upgrade on De Gea. Better on almost all metrics. There's not much between Onana and Costa either, and for 20M cheaper, I say go for him.

Onana vs Costa

Is aerial including coming for crosses? Is that not worrying that it’s less than De Gea?

If this happens I run a parallel to the Lisandro Martinez thread last season.

Nobody seemed arsed. Then everyone loved him when he played. I think people would love Onana even though this thread is about as lively as my arse

It was part of Inter's style of play to sit deep, and probably a tactical instruction for Onana to not leave his line too much. He has proven to be a decent sweeper keeper under Ten Hag before. His cross stopping % seems good enough, and better than De Gea's.

Really hope we pull this off. This focus on a ball playing keeper and high quality posssesion is exactly what this team needs.

Stats can tell you anything, but I felt for large parts of the season DDG didn't pass the eyetest...the team was visible nervous when he had the ball at his feet and David himself did not look comfortable.

At a top club you cannot carry your GK it is far too important of a position.

Martinez helped a lot but I feel a new keeper who is comfortable with the ball at his feet could make a huge impact on the team.

My big concern about this one is that the current odds on sky bet show:
Raya 5/4
Pickford 7/4
Onana 4/1

If everyone is so convinced Onana is coming, why are the bookies so badly wrong?

Brit journos aren't getting any info?

I don't know exactly what those aerial stats measure, but I struggle to take them seriously. It does specify aerial 'duels' so maybe it only counts if an opposition player is touching the keeper at the same time or something.

Going off that website somebody like Nick Pope is worse than De Gea in aerial duels, and Courtois is only slightly better.

I suppose my concern is I haven't seen much in YT videos of him coming to take crosses

As I seem to have to explain to someone every transfer window, odds are not set by the bookies on the likelihood of something happening, it's set by their liability management.

Based on those odds, A lot of people have bet on Raya and Pickford to come to United. So to limit their liability of what they need to pay out if it happens, they're offering a lower payout. If people were to bet on Onana and it was to happen, they would make more money from all the bets that have come in for Pickford and Raya, than paying out all the people that have bet on Onana.

Mostly due to the fact that we are basically linked with 4-5 players with serious high-profile bids and us having a strict FFP-related budget - and not one of our outgoing players has received serious transfer bids yet, so we can't really afford all the players we are linked with atm without selling some first.

Planning, preparing, monitoring, admiring. How about we submit an actual fecking bid!!
Don't get wound up at the club.
Journalists have a quota of articles they have to churn out, it suits them to bridge no news days with these buzzwords.

This! Stop getting upset at the club for journalists trying to make news.

Can’t lose an aerial dual if you never get in one [insert meme pointing at head]

Would be happy and excited to get either Onana or Costa. ETH needs to transition to this style quick instead getting bogged down in letting long standing players down gently.

The De Gea situation just seems very odd to play on with such reduced terms, I think he'd be even worse and has buckled before during contract issues and don't like the idea of him playing a second choice. He's best playing elsewhere regularly, I don't think the team would want to flip from contrasting styles in order to give De Gea games.

Nothing against the person, he's been here a long time but I think he's been bad for us since 2019 and would've sold him instead of making him the best paid keeper in the world.

Yeah have said it numerous times he's been a brilliant servant to this club, however he's not been right since that opening group game of 2018 World Cup

But sometimes it's people in the know who are influencing the odds. When Gakpo signed for Liverpool, everyone was talking about us signing him, and then I saw that the odds on him joining Liverpool suddenly shortened to odds on, presumably when an insider bet on him joining Liverpool. There had not been a single link to Liverpool prior to that, so that is why I am nervous that someone close to Raya or Pickford knows something and has had a little flutter.

Of course it's a possibility, but all it really means is where people have bet. It could be a massive 100k wager from someone in the know or 10000 10 quids thrown on after a rumour in the news. You've answered your own concern though, because both of them can't be joining, so why are both their odds so short?

Isn’t he out of contract at the end of June?
Exactly. Ridiculous how much money we lose by letting players go for nothing. DDG should have been sold few years back and we let Pogba go on a free when we splashed 90m on him.

Onana or Aston Villa and Argentina big hero Martinez is my choice.

Martinez is a top shot stopper and best on penalty.

A robust, bust still quick goalkeeper.

I vote for Aston Villa Martinez. The man is a winner.

Martinez or Onana will do for me.

Onana is clearly the most essential thing we need, above a striker! Jeg don't think my heart or my mind can handle another match with 6-8 goals against. A good goalkeeper can save that, not a striker. It would complete the reconstruction of the first team; we can look for a striker once the Glazers are gone.
3 players in is what we need, if any pluers goes out we need 1 for 1. We got a thin squad, but players keept on the bench won't do a good job in december! Remember that.

Easier said then done. Any clubs interested in United's players take one look at their wages and run a mile.

The only transfer (I can think of) which was sensible both buying and then later selling was Dan James.

He is a donkey with the ball at his feet.

I don’t think Martinez is that great. I think he’s at his level with Villa. Gooners certainly don’t miss him.

And Inter Milan need money whilst Villa like most established PL teams these days don’t, so Inter won’t ransom us as much as Villa might.
