I'm guessing this is why Henderson hasn't been sold yet. Inter are in the weaker negotiating position here, in my opinion. The latest report is that Inter representatives have flown to London today to get the deal done.
Yeah i saw that report earlier too. If thats the case, i imagine we'd see something a little later on saying a deal has been agreed, but thats just my opinion

The Inter manager is also on record to say they need to sell before they can buy. This deal will happen but we can't bend over backwards for Inter, especially when we have to secure a striker next.

Tricky bit is going to be finding that happy medium for a striker which looks a challenge

As some have mentioned here, it may be that Onana’s transfer is tied to Lukaku’s.
If I remember correctly, they still haven’t paid it off so my guess would be that Inter are negotiating instalments for Onana’s transfer that will even out their remaining payments to United for Lukaku.
If so, they might be negotiating to have no transfer of funds but just a banking transaction (in some cases you can have a wire transfer but no actual money moving accounts if there is an opposite flow of funds).
I reckon they must be discussing this kind of operational funding technicalities and payment schedules

As someone who neither moans, nor moans about the moaners, one thing I find quite odd is the collective 'The CAF' when it's used to try to highlight inconsistent thinking.

Surely the CAF is made up of thousands of posters with different views, so it's very likely that while some will praise or criticise one thing, others will think differently and praise or complain from the opposite view? Which is only inconsistent if it's the same poster contradicting themselves just to moan, not entirely different posters voicing contrasting views.
We are a monolith!

And to work on the Lukaku deal.

Inter bid €30m for Lukaku, they need the money as much as we need the keeper. United are right to haggle a bit.

I don’t think they are that desperate for Lukaku. He wasn’t all that important for them last season… And certainly not desperate enough to sacrifice Onana at a discount price.

37 years old Dzeko was the starter and they replaced him with 25 year old Thuram… They did a similar move replacing 30 years old Brozovic with 23 year old Frattesi… Both of these help them in rejuvenating their squad and reducing the wage bill.

Onana is young, on a long contract and relatively low wage. The only reason he could/will move this summer is his own will. As Marotta said recently, it’s always the players who decide… And we are lucky to have ETH for whom he’s played earlier.

He was their 2nd top scorer. 14 from 37 games.

I think he's pretty important.

Yesterday it was Wednesday and Thursday was the big days . Now it’s Thursday after feck all was reported today  He’s a clown

You guys obsession with trying to discredit a journalist is so weird.

I hope this gets done. I'm looking forward to seeing him in games. Looks like a lot of fun.

They made a couple of bids for him and are still in negotiations. They may not be desperate but they clearly want him back.

Assuming we get him, as many have said, the first time he concedes a goal playing out from the back, the usual trash media will construct a 'crisis' as a result. But we all lived through De Gea's 'can't claim crosses' crisis so fans are unlikely to be swayed. And at worst it happens a couple of times a season, so no drama there.

More likely the pattern in terms of his reception will be:
  • An initial honeymoon period where he'll look flash as feck, and the less-trash portion of the football media will swoon over his distribution, sweeping and impact on our play.
  • A bad spell where other teams will be more ready for him, and the surfeit of excellent pressing sides in the PL will target him ruthlessly (pray he doesn't have Maguire in front of him at this point). He's not an idiot so I doubt we'll concede a tonne through direct mistakes, but he'll be forced to make some emergency clearances and there'll be some near-misses and the backlash will proclaim that he's not all that great with the ball after all and have you heard about this Ederson fellow?
  • However he seems robust as feck, and ETH isn't targeting him for no reason. Other sides will be punished as often as not for over-pressing him if we have the right other pieces in play (namely a #9 who can receive a long ball, and wingers/FBs in form and in wide starting positions), and we'll find an equilibrium where we effectively have 20% less pitch to cover when attacking/pressing compared to with DDG in the sticks.
  • All shall be well and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.

« Pretty important » is different form «important enough to make them sell Onana on the cheap in order to get him. »

Also these numbers can be a bit misleading. He was their penalty taker whenever he was on the pitch. That’s the only thing putting him ahead of Dzeko. And still only 10 goals scored…

I feel like another club would have got a bid around £40m accepted

Not a criticism of United, it’s just what we’re working with.

That'd make sense if Onana was for sale. As it stands, he's not; Inter are only entertaining this because they need the cash to reinforce other positions and are okay with getting a cheaper keeper to replace him.

If Chelsea or Barcelona were in for him, they'd be quoted the same price.

Heard a stat on a podcast today. Of all Onana's successful passes last season, 52% of them were to one player: Dumfries.

He clearly loves that chipped out-ball to Dumfries. Definitely his safety pass... mostly because he's very good at consistently hitting it, secondly because Dumfries is great in the air and really contests every ball if it becomes a 50/50.

Might make it a little more likely that Dalot starts for us, given that he's a lot better and more willing to contest aerial duels.

Yeah, this'll very likely be slightly above €55m in total

Update André Onana.

In the last hours there has been a meeting in England to move forward in the signing.

Manchester United and Inter are getting closer. The final price could be a bit higher than 50+5M€.

Negotiations continue. Very hot transfer.

Friday could be the right day to close. Positive contacts in the last few hours

The tour starts in a week? I'd imagine they'll try and get him to join with the rest before they jet off to the states or just before
