The terrible goals we conceeded today proved that is not all Onana's fault that we conceed so many terrible goals, our defending is absoutely attrocious
Ye but when Onana is in net the defence is actually better but he lets the defence down by parrying it to opponents or dropping the ball

Is it? Or was it just the fact Amorim rested Casemiro, Maguire and Dorgu?

Two truths can coexist — Bayındır isn't great either. But I can't stand Onana anymore. At least Bayındır hasn’t played enough to piss me off the same way.

I get wanting bayindir in net just because it would be something different and he hasn't proven to be inadequate in the same way. But Amorim sees more of him in a week than i have all season, it wont be a novelty for him. If he picks Onana its because hes better than Bayindir. And if Bayindir isn't good enough to take Onana's place at the moment then he isn't good enough to be at the club.

We have been solid recently. For whatever reason we just collapsed yesterday. Maybe it’s the Casemiro Ugarte pivot that helps us be more solid but then we lack creativity and progression going forward. Onana is 100% responsible for a lot of our goals. Even the one against Ipswich which was similar to the freekick Lyon scored. He can never save them

Hopefully big transfer sum or at least any amount that can help us get a replacement without having to compromise others spots that are also needed.

Seriously. Why do we keep giving new signings these big wages, when they haven't done anything of note for the club? Performance based wages should be where it's at.

If players don't want to come because we refuse to double their current salaries, we should be glad, because they've shown why they're not the kind of players we should be signing.

Identify up-and-coming players, pay them reasonable wages, add in performance bonuses and go from there.
It goes together with the stupid fees we are paying. You can’t expect we pay the selling club 50m and the player’s agent to accept 60k a week.

Did you not see Bayindir palm a straight forward save straight to a Newcastle player in our 6 yard box yesterday?

He's been like this since he arrived nearly 2 years ago, so he has to go.
Think he suffers from the same virus that Højlund is infected with. They completely lost their mojo and looks to have no confidence in their own abilities, and thus they hesitate. Onana has qualities, but he’s a long way from displaying them atm. Even a 30 yard pass to a wingback often goes out of play. Bisarre.

This vaseline talk has been eye opening. I really had no idea. I would have assumed it would have had the opposite effect and make the gloves more slippery.

The more you know

The incident where Onana was screaming at Maguire after just joining the club left a really bad taste in my mouth. He knew Maguire was getting attacked on all fronts, was likely in a bad place mentally and still chose to try and humiliate him. All for his own benefit. That stuck with me and never allowed me to warm to him.

Fast forward almost 2 years and Onana's the one getting the stick now while Maguire has become one of our most reliable players. As much as I want him to be a success for the teams sake, part of me is thinking "you deserve this". I wouldn't begrudge Maguire for going ballistic at Onana with his next mistake.

We need leaders in this team and Onana isn't one.

Did seem a bit odd. Also haven't seen him do it again in that way. It was in pre-season wasn't it?

Maybe he thought he had to put a marker down in some way. Probably read the room a little wrong there.

Yeah is hard to find examples of things Onana actually does very well. He can be a decent shot stopper at times and a calamitous one at others - an inconsistency that is more destabilizing than helpful. The thing he was supposed to allegedly excel at when he came was his distribution. Even that hasn't been particularly stellar.

I’m not comparing one to the other. I think there both rubbish. And we definitely need a new number 1 next season.

You cant really judge a goalkeepers distribution when he is in a side where he there is nearly always no one to actually distribute to

That's not entirely true. Onana now typically puts his foot on the ball, has a look round, ignores a free player, then looks back and that player is being covered. I though it seemed Bayindir on Sunday was trying to release the ball more quickly, either throws or passes.

If the story of him wanting a pay rise and bringing his agent in last week before vital game because he wants an increase and a new contract is true , then he needs to be sold immediately even at a loss!

I’m sure some team in Saudi will take him for £10m, but if the story from the Athletic is remotely true this imbecile must never play for the club again. I wound rather play any GK and get beaten on Thursday.

He represents Everything that is currently wrong with the club, he didn’t understand the 25% wage reduction for playing Europa League Football and he’s not happy which is why his form is so erratic.

I keep saying I want a British core of the best players available not because they are more expensive but because they have more affinity with the EPL, a lot of them come up through the youth ranks of multiple English teams, they understand the terrible winter weather, they understand what the fans do to support a football club and most of the time they are trying to create a wholesome comrady within the team and have shared ideologies and banter.

We need to stop recruiting foreign mercenaries, of which Andre Onana has now proven to be just that!

Who reported that story? It's the first I've heard of it.

I really wonder if he plays on Thursday. It's a huge call for Amorim. I don't see why Onana would be dropped just for one game. If Bayindir hadn't made that mistake I think he would be nailed on to start.

It’s got nothing to do with nationality. I don’t like Onana, and think he needs to go - but he’s not a ‘mercenary’. He’s indicative of bad decision making, lack of structure and a club without a plan. Early signs suggest, this is improving.

Arsenal have a lot of the qualities you describe, and Saka, Rice aside, how many of those players are British. I don’t like Arteta, but his players will bust a gut for him.

You have got far too emotional in this post.

Yeah, lets get in some more proper British grafters likes Rashford and Sancho and less of them lazy forrins like Bruno and Amad.

I really have not, we no longer have a British core and that’s 50% of our problem, Newcastle have 9 or 10 British players that set the rules, set the standards and then they’ve recruited excellent imports like Isak, Bruno Gumarais, F Shar, Tonali , Linton etc.

We have no real identity, a keeper who cost us CL last season and got us knocked out of the group phase but then rolls into Carrington with his Agent for a pay rise, if that doesn’t upset you, then you don’t support United, because let me tell you that upsets every single genuine United fan.

Yes Sancho and Rashford are no better than some foreign mercenaries, however there are great young English players to rebuild around like James Trafford, J Branthwaite, M Gheui, MGW, Hayden Hackney, Chris Rigg, Adam Wharton.

Plus we have Biancheri, B Mantato, V Musa, J Fletcher, J Moorehouse, H Amass, Goodwill and many more good young homegrown players to build the squad round.

I don’t see any value in players like , Dorgu, Hojlund, Casemiro, Onana, Bayinder, Mallacia right now, we should not be recruiting young unproven players or 28/29 year olds who want huge 4/5 year contracts!

A blend we need a British core and the. Great players like Mazroui, Bruno, Amad and others but we need British core and PL proven.

If that's true about him not understanding his wage drop and asking for more. My God he's a bit thick as well as a shocking keeper.
To believe that you're so good but have been fecking useless at your job for 95% of your time here is mind boggling.

Our recruitment has been astonishingly bad in the past decade.

Whether it’s British players like Sancho, AWB, Maguire (relative success - just overplayed massively) to Antony, Casemiro etc etc.

We have bought badly.

If we look around at British players - some of the ones you have named are just far too expensive. Braithwaite and Gheui are £60m+ a pop. The time to buy these players is not now, but when Everton and Palace bought them. Nationality is not the problem, it’s the individual players we have bought, and then not moved on.

We need more signings like Heaven - I like his potential, but it doesn’t matter whether he’s British or not.

What we do need to do is to utilise the Academy more, rather than have the squad clogged up with mediocre players. But again - the nationality of those player, or whether we have poached them from Arsenal (feeder club!!) doesn’t matter.

You raised Newcastle as an example. Probably better to look at City over the past decade, Arsenal or Liverpool. They have a few good British players in their squads - but they go and recruit the best players, irrespective of Nationality. Players from all those clubs would bust a gut for their managers (excluding City this season).

I think Palace, Brentford, Nottingham Forrest, Villa all prove my theory, all of these teams have a strong solid core of British style players, even a player like Chris Woods is typically a British style striker. But yes they are all blended with great foreign imports that will bust a gut, most of these teams start with at least 3 or 4 British players and then add Northern European, Dutch, Scandinavian whose lifestyles and banter is similar to the UK.

United always recruited very good Dutch and Scandinavian players, those players would not be asking for a pay rise when they are 14th in the EPL.

MDL and Mazroui would not be asking for a ridiculous pay rise right now, it’s just beyond belief?

Onana is a complete buffoon. But I could just as well see someone like Rashford doing the same if he came back. Most fans are United in the opinion that Onana should be binned.

We have other threads that are piling on Mainoo because there are rumours that his agent is asking for a massive pay rise.

A lot of footballers are beyond stupid and live in a bubble.

Mainoo is on 20 k per week and his first contract was 5k per week, plus we all know he’s probably looking for £120-130k not £200k but yes agree with you modern footballers need a huge reality check with regard to wages.
