I hear this footwork is what we paid the vast majority of the transfer fee for. How incredible he is on the ball, rolling it to a fullback with no oppo player within 20 yards of him.Sick of seeing him roll the ball forwards a couple of feet with his studs whilst surveying passing options, to then inevitably pass it sideways to one of the full backs at the last moment as one of the opposing team closes him down.
I genuinely think he couldn’t give a feck whether we win or lose a game as long as he can stroll around being a fecking liability whilst being paid a fortune.
Plus injury. Bosnich started having a lot of hamstring problems right after joining us, to the extent that at times he could barely kick the ball without pulling up lame.I always thought Bosnich was a very talented keeper, top level, it was his private life that did for him.
That's a good point. I loved him when I was a kid, he had real style and pulled off some incredible saves at Villa. I can at least see why Fergie believed in him. Onana I cannot see why we ever were in for him. I'd deffo want to play cards with the Man Utd management and director teams. They get taken to the cleaners time and time again.Plus injury. Taibi lasted 4 games and I think Bosnich was basically half a season.
Onana has been the first choice keeper and played almost every game for 2 seasons. That's why I think he's the worst.
im old fashioned. goalkeeper 1st priority is to keep the ball out from the net.I hear this footwork is what we paid the vast majority of the transfer fee for. How incredible he is on the ball, rolling it to a fullback with no oppo player within 20 yards of him.
Both of whom had good (borderline very good) first seasons before they then fell away and became weaknesses.fair point.
so compared with other GK who have played at least 1 full season
Barthez, Tim howard
Barthez was such a charlatan. Onana feels like a modern version of him in some ways. Both of whom had good (borderline very good) first seasons before they then fell away and became weaknesses.
Onana looked for a while like he was going to do the opposite and have a poor first season then come good in his second, but unfortunately that good form only lasted 3 or 4 months.
Barthez and Howard are much better than Onana ?
Ben Foster ? Roy Carroll ?
Fair play mate, this is now your trademark type of postThere's zero chance of him getting replaced right now. He will play every game between now and the end of season, bar maybe a couple of league games where we go with our second string team. We might look to replace him in the Summer but it probably won't be high on our priority list.
He's absolutely horrible and cannot be relied on at all but we are probably stuck with him.
I'm not sure that stat works really, not all goalkeepers are playing in the same amount of competitions or games.Since the start of last season, no goalkeeper has made more errors leading to goals for Premier League clubs in all competitions than Onana with EIGHT.
Transfermarkt list the following keepers as having contracts expiring in 2026:
Donnarumma
Courtois
Maignan
Ederson
Kelleher
Pope
Ortega
All definite improvements on Onana, but doubtful any of them are actually attainable. Insane that some of these players are backup keepers.
Thanks Erik, again
Onana has had so many horrible performances under both ETH and Amorim and has retained his place. I think Bayindir is simply not rated that highly and hence not considered as a viable alternative.Fair play mate, this is now your trademark type of postLike something bad will never change, almost revealing in that negativity.. You simply cant say with any confidence Rubén will stick rather than twist. I can see few scenarios here:
1. Onana starts vs Newcastle ->
a) poor again, Amorim with bold statement starting Bayindir against Lyon
b) decent, or at least without major mistake Andre starts on Thursday again
2. Onana starts both games but if Lyon match goes the distance Altay is subbed on for penalty shootout
3. RA has had enough so fresh and eager Altay starts against weakened Barcodes, does well and will never look back for the rest of the season, keeping no.1 spot
(My money is on options 3, 1a, 1b, 2, in that order)

As for the 2nd goal last night the other poster put it perfectly. (sorry my multi quote ability is rubish for now). Andre was caught in two minds - catch or parry. Went with a wrong one or rather he is not the perfect handler out there. Even if fired at him from rather a short distance I can see number of keepers catch it first time or being first to a possible rebound.
And even that better and funnier point being made - if Onana did feck all, the ball hitting his knee cap or something would more than likely end up in better area for United defense to deal with.
Ruben please stop being shy guy. Just politelly explain AO (and the hierarchy) that he is going (with his enormous arse preventing him to save the first goal) to warm the bench from now on, infinite. Even Tom Heaton will do, dedicated United man celebrating 39yo just two days before OL showdown.
I'm not sure the comparison with other keepers and games played matters. 8 is at absolute minimum, 5 too many mistakes. I'd actually say 6 too many. I have no idea, and quite frankly can't be bothered checking. But I'd be surprised if Onana hasn't cost us the equivalent of 30 points over two seasons.I'm not sure that stat works really, not all goalkeepers are playing in the same amount of competitions or games.
I definitely think we'll look to replace him in the summer. He's making too many errors, and his on the ball ability has dropped recently. We never really made enough use of that anyway.
I’m also a big Maignan fanI would personally love Maignan out of those available, but like you said it would be doubtful for most of these.
Is there any older quality keepers knocking about that we can get on the cheap for a couple of years?
Van de Sar types.
They don't need to be amazing but just do the basics well.
All he had to do for that second one was kick it. Moronic goalkeepingFirst one was terrible.
Not having the second one.
First one was AWFUL though.
Whats strange about him is sometimes he makes some decent saves, and sometimes he does stretch enough to hold the ball etc.He is overweight and therefore slower to dive.
He usually makes easier shots look harder to save because of this.
He did.He didn’t.
This decision is awful, when you look at it now. But to be fair Onana did very well in Inter and Ajax, and he looked like a quality keeper. But I think the club only wanted him instead of De Gea, because Onana can play football with his feets.I’d love to know whose bright idea it was to sign him in the first place. Awful decision.
