Pereira has potential but if we signed Andre Gomes we would practically be giving up on Pereira who could be better. Tbh we definitely need another midfielder if we want to play a 3 in midfield, I'm not sure if that guy is Gomes though (or Pereira tbh)

How many of you actually even saw him at Valencia in his first season? He had it all there. Skill, dribbling, vision and a very good player to watch. Then he had injuries and the whole Nevile saga at Valencia which derailed him. Barca haven't had a clue how to utilize him. I mean, I don't want him at United now given it's been 2 years since hes shown the level that we'd like any signing to be at but he's not a "genuinely awful" player. Utter nonsense.

I have never seen him play a good game. Watched him about 20 times.
You clearly haven't seen him play if you think he was genuinely awful for Valencia. He had a very good season as they finished in the top 4.
I haven't seen and nor do I care to see all his Portugal performances. A full season at Valencia is a better indicator of his talent. I haven't made any excuses. Just stated facts. He got injured while he was playing very well and when he came back he struggled with that and the problems the club were in overall.
I've not even praised him. I wouldn't touch him after his last couple of seasons but some ridiculous exaggeration on here about how shite he is.

He clearly has some talent, he was good at Valencia, but has dipped at the step up to Barca.
When I've seen him for Portugal/Barca he has looked like a passenger.
If we continue to play 2 in midfield, we've got enough depth. If we play 3 in midfield regular, then you may argue we need another addition, be very surprised if its this guy though.

I don't understand why some value him so highly. Gomes seems like a complete average midfielder; no great weaknesses, no great strengths. I haven't watched him a lot, but every match I have seen him play he has been invisible and never been a dominating player. We should get players that have certain expertise and complement each other (i.e. what Mourinho calls specialists), but I simply cannot see what Gomes brings to the table that makes him unique and how he would improve our team (and not just squad depth).
Whenever I've watched him at Barca I've thought he's looked his best as a DLP. Alongside Busquets he just didn't seem to fit but when in place of Busquets he played well. Not well enough to take the spot away from Busquets, but still. I think his future might be in that position, though whether that's at a top club or not is anyone's guess.
Don't particularly think he is great but decent enough player and I watch la Liga often. Too many decent players though aren't going to be winning us the major honors. People saying he is shite and awful but no doubt some are happy with Lingard and Fellaini. Don't want him but I also don't want them.
Obviously getting a balanced squad is the way to go but I still feel we are quite far behind the top teams in Europe, I doubt we will get anyone in before 31st but I'm hoping next summer we spend big again on quality.

He had an OK season with Valencia, nothing out of the ordinary.
The problem is that he was OK in a team able to claim 4th in La Liga while being 21 y/o and almost 190cm tall, he had "hot prospect" written all over him, but he never was THAT good imo, he also had one of his best games in that win vs Real I think, so people started acting like he was nuts, he never was.
