Amorim 3-4-3 with classic UTD players

Post Fergie era:

Onana
Smalling Varane Blind
Valencia Herrera Matic Shaw
Rooney Bruno
Ibrahimovic

Couldn’t fit in Mata, Pogba, Greenwood, Casemiro or Rashford.

Yeah but will he work in an Amorim system and his diamond/pentagon system?
Yes. Twice. Old Scholes in the Morita/Braganca position and Paul the Younger behind the striker.

Having more time to think on this there is a case that Ibra could have been absolutely devastating at CF in this system.

We think the same for the two 10s.
It’s funny how football goes full cycle. People think the wingers players narrow and further up is a new thing. But decades ago it was the “inside half” position. Pretty much the reason I thought of Best & Charlton and its amazing how their profiles are very similar to what Amorim has as his two 10s

Blind would be terrible LCB and put out a Johnny Evans type performance from yesterday. If you're going to play him, you need to put him at CCB. I think Varane will do an okay job at RCB.

Pogba over Herrera surely at CM? He has not one but two DMs (if you consider the extra CB as a DM) backing him up.

He needs the guy leading the line to be a workhorse target man (run the channels, win the aerial knockdowns, press when the ball is lost). Obviously with his skillset Ibra will have to be accommodated but I think Rooney CF and someone else at #10 over Ibra. Maybe Pogba if you insist on playing him at #10 even though the Bruno x Pogba as two #10s doesn't really work.

1st XI:

De Gea
Stam Ferdinand Vidic
Beckham Keane Robson Evra
Best Ronaldo

2nd XI:

Schmeichel
Edwards Pallister Irwin
Valencia Stiles Ince Giggs
Cantona Rooney
Ruud

Think Giggs would be totally wasted playing as a WB, Sharpe would be much more suited to the role of just staying wide and giving width. Giggs had far more to his game.

I’m not convinced Beckham suits that role.

For me he’d be better as a RCM

The only reason I don’t see him working here is because of his lack of pace, but he ticks every other box. In Amorim system the wing backs tend to find themselves in a lot of space, so with time on the ball Beckham is gonna pick passes for fun. He does fit the RCM role very nicely too, and to some extent the RF position. Wonderful player, with an attitude that should make some of our “superstars” ashamed.

I’m not sure on Giggs really. Evra or Irwin could be better.

Giggs should be one of the 10's, his ability to carry the ball through the middle is perfect for destroying aggressive presses, over commit and 5 secs later he has taken it from box to box.

Schmeichel
Stam - Vidic - Rio
Giggs - Keane - Robson - Rooney
Cantona - Best
Ronaldo

I think he'd be ideal as a RWB. That said he lacked pace, so...perhaps Kanchelskis'd be a better bet. I'd definitely have Evra on the left, though.

I know Valencia is not exactly a top tier United legend, but cant think of a player that would play that wingback role better that him.

That back three, minor Rio, might not look amazing but it's got balance. Both Brown and Silvestre have experience as Centre backs and as fullbacks, with the latter having history in playing in a back 3 for Inter and nationally for France.
Brown and Silvestre should be more adept in those positions, even over our clubs long history of greater individual centre backs.
I feel Both also have good attributes you'd expect from a RCB or a LCB.

The wingbacks pick themselves.
Kanchelskis has the perfect attributes for a modern day wingback. Ridiculous acceleration , composed, great offensively on a 1v1 and has the advantage of being a major goal threat.

Evra on the opposite side may be lacking in the goals department but he'll offer equal amounts of pace and link up play while also being more adequate in defensive periods.
Both will offer high work rate and, due to thier immense stamina levels, will be bombing up and down those flanks all day long.

I wanted bite, composure and aggression in midfield. Keane was a obvious choice and I could've opted for Robson as his partner but I went for Ince in the end who I just saw more of when I was starting to take a strong interest in United.

Rooney and Giggs in the AM roles were two obvious picks. Rooney would offer you the aggression, power and goals while Giggs will offer the finesse and great 1v1 skills with his tight dribbling and bursts of acceleration.
Both equally great passers to.

RVP as a forward gets the nod over the likes of Ruud, Cole, Yorke and Cantona.
Though his top form didn't last long at the club, I always felt he was the most rounded forward we've ever had.
